  1. Thanks! If I get to a point where I'd be motivating others, that'd just be icing on the cake. Which, you know... then I'd have to find someone to eat the cake. I'm more of a pie person. Icing on the pie? That doesn't work. That would be the bacon. I'll go with that. I've got a feeling that this will take a bit more than a year though. We shall see!
  2. Update! I hit my first workout of the challenge last night. I mostly did the BBWW, but instead of jumping jacks I took a quick 10 minute bike ride first to warm up. I live on the 2nd floor of an apartment so I have to adjust. I managed three circuits of 20 prisoner squats, 10 pushups, 20 lunges, 10 inverted rows, and a 30 second plank. My first 10 pushups were real, the second two sets were off my knees. The inverted rows were the easier kind where my feet were on the floor. I did manage to get 37 seconds out of my third plank, which was horrible and gratifying. Now to keep it up and keep improving. Cheers!
  3. First, congrats on the 85 lost. I can't wait until I have a number like that. I definitely need to work on getting out of my comfort zone. The whole state of dull terror is getting old. Thanks for the kind words!
  4. Thanks! I never wore a shirt when swimming because it's uncomfortable and it isn't like anyone will not realize what's under it anyway. After getting through a few middle school pool parties there wasn't much shame left to feel. Thanks for the encouragement, and good luck with your quest too!
  5. Thanks Whatbuttons! Frankly the whole "share personal stuff with strangers" bit is terrifying for me. It does force me to interact though. Which is probably what this is all about? I hear they have forums for introverts, but it's probably just a library. At first glance, it's empty, but every once in a while an introvert scurries off to find another book, briefly disturbing the silence...
  6. Age 30, 6'1", 329 lbs. I know that feel. Although to be honest, even if (WHEN, I mean) I get thinner, I will always enjoy hiding in a hoodie. Stick with it. You can do this. You've got some great motivation there. That pain does not go away easy. Best of luck!
  7. Congrats to you. I graduated in December of 2006 and I'm just now realizing my complete failure to make any progress. As a fellow newb (as of today even), it was nice to see people post with support in my challenge. So, I'm trying to do that as well. Good luck! Stick with it. Six weeks isn't all that much in the grand scheme of things. Also, if you've never done paleo / clean eating, it's awesome once you get past the first few weeks. I don't know the exact differences, I think I eat more 'primal' than 'paleo', but regardless, I lost 50 pounds just cleaning up my diet. It's really cool to see how your body reacts. From one great excuse maker to another, stick with this. Cheers!
  8. Magic - Thanks for the support! Trying to upload a couple of pics full of beardly goodness to judge my progress against, but I'm having a hell of a time figuring out how forums work. I can't figure out how to upload content; where I think I should be able to it looks like there might be a Chrome error. I'll work on it. Hopefully the DB links above work. Tavore - Thanks for the luck! I somehow managed to wrangle the wife into joining me in this challenge, so I'll have a bit of motivational push. Anyone - feel free to teach me how to forum.
  9. Main Quest - Get down to 299 lbs. My current weight is 329 lbs. At my heaviest, I was probably a bit over 375. I started eating Paleo around a year and a half ago, and was able to drop down to 317. I haven't been as strict as needed, and have hovered around 330 or so for the last six months. I don't exercise regularly (or much at all) either, which is a problem. I've weighed over 300 lbs since around 8th grade. The least I've ever weighed as an adult was 275 as a college Freshman. I did Atkins, lost weight, ate like crap, and gained it all back over a few months time. I decided to make my first main quest to get below 300 because it will be a significant mental victory for me to not see a three in the hundreds space when I get on a scale. I have no idea what a healthy target weight will be for me, so I am reluctant to set anything specific. I want to add muscle, get strong, and lose fat. Then I can think about a new quest. Specific Goals: Do (at minimum) the beginner body weight workout three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday).A - 18 workouts completed.B - 16 workouts completed.C - 15 workouts completed.D - 14 workouts completed.F - 12 or less.Reduce the amount of carbonated beverages I consume.A - 0 carbonated beverages consumed.B - 1-2 carbonated beverages consumed.C - 3-4 carbonated beverages consumed.D - 5-6 carbonated beverages consumed.F - 6+Bike at least once a week (at least 30 minutes).A - 12 rides.B - 9 rides.C - 6 rides.D - 3 rides.F - 1 or less.Life Quest: Quit Smoking.I actually started this on 07/24, but this will be a good motivator to keep it up.Motivation: I want to set a better example for my kids than I had growing up. I'm a fat guy from a fat family with fat habits. I want my kids to develop better habits than I had and to grow up healthy. It'd probably also be nice for my wife if I were healthier and better looking. Or at least not as fat. General: Age: 30 Height: 6'1" Weight: 328.8 lbs Hair: Receding rapidly. Beard: Bordering on majestic. Kids: yes, two of them. DogVsCat: Cat. I have no idea how this works really. I'm not incredibly social in real life, and I don't interact very much online either outside of gaming. I don't frequent any forums, nor do I understand them (hopefully this changes that). I'm very much an introvert and absolutely abhor talking about myself. However, I'm not a very good self-motivator and need all the accountability I can get. I'll try to upload pics when I can. Cheers! Edit - Attempting to add "before" pics taken today I say attempting because I can't figure out how to upload. I'm a forum newb. So I'm trying DropBox links instead, we shall see if that works. If not, I'll try to figure out how to forum later.
