  1. Thank you for asking! It has been a horrible month. I have been overwhelmed by homework and classes and haven't had much time. I have been able to squeeze some running every week but my schedule has been crowded all month. I am afraid I have failed misserably. I need a much better time management to accomplish my goals since I am interested in getting a grant in research but I need to exercise (There is no point in being a young dead researcher). Now I have a friend who is urging me to start boxing with him. If I have a regular schedule is much harder to fail. I am starting next week. Thank you again for caring Falco
  2. Run 5k trying to make adog gallop all the way and that is a bit too fast. Two reps of Angry birds workout after the run and now I know how out of shape I am. Totally out of shape. 20 pushups and just one chin up without form, reason or rhyme. Now I realize I am back at square one. Heading stubbornly for square two.
  3. Hang in there! Greetings from the south of the continent. I am also struggling with my masters degree in engineering and know how hard it can be to stick to a healthy routine. About the food I find better to plan ahead for 15-20 days buy in bulk and cook in bulk. It takes about 3 to 4 hours to cook everything but then you freeze it and never think again about it. Combine that with salads and vegetables that can be made in less than 10 min and you have a month almost covered. Thats between 12 to 15 minutes per meal at the end of the month. Get a pressure cooker it helps make food much faster and it's really helpful for busy students. Hang in there girl. The Rebellion has your back.
  4. Spent three hours cooking yesterday and now I have healthy food for at least a fortnight leaving me free to achieve my other goals.
  5. Thanks bad wolf! I always wanted to travel to Australia. My master is in forestry engineering with a specialty in modelling (forest growth models, CO2 retention, water distribution models, that kind of stuff) and Australia has some of the most interesting wildlife and landscapes in the world. But most Spanish universities do not have exchange programs with Australian universities and it is a pity. Thanks for the support! And if you hear of any cheap ways to travel to Australia let me know!
  6. The first days are good, but it is the following days when you are going to hesitate. Probably you will hit a rough patch. You are going to doubt if you can do it. You are going to think you cannot do it. But that is why we are here. To encourage you. Librarians are the druids in this real life role playing game. You are the keepers of knowledge and we need people like you to live long and prosper! Stick to the challenge and if you ever doubt, remember, we have all been there and we are behind you.
  7. Hi there, I have been busy with ending my graduate course and starting a masters degree and did not complete my first challenge. The change of city and high academic charge have taken their toll. I have been doing some workouts and I am getting in better shape but I want consistency. I want to make a habit that keeps me healthy for the rest of my life. My Main Quest I want to create a habit of exercising, reach some feats of fitness that now seem impossible and level up in life by getting good grades in my masters degree so I can opt for a PhD. when I finish it. I want to get back to my former lifestyle when I was a better student, exercised harder and I was outdoors most of my free time. Goals - 3x per week strength training and one long run ( more than 5k but not more than 12k) I want to train three times per week in the school gym doing a stronglifts 5x5 workout or doing a bodyweight, four exercise, circuit workout (the angry birds workout) three times each exercise and trying to get better results every week at least on one of the exercises. I plan to be able to do 100 pushups in two sets of 50 by the end of the challenge (Currently doing 48 in 4 sets) and 5 pull-ups. A: 3 Trainings B: 3 Trainings, no run C: 2 Trainings D: 2 Trainings, no run E: 1 Training F: no Training at all Sleep at least 7 hours a day and getting up at the same hour (No snooze button) I Plan to get to sleep everyday at the same time and get my hours of rest, no napping and no snoozing. Suck it up and wake the hell up. Get more fresh air I should get one half day of real outdoors activity every week (hiking, fishing, hunting) and do my workouts outside or run to the gym to warm up and get some fresh air and avoid claustrophobia of being locked up all day. A: Day out and 3 Trainings out B: 2 Trainings out , day out C: 3 Trainings out, no day out D: 2 Trainings out E: 1 Training out F: No training out at all Measurements Age: 25 Height: 1,84m Weight: 86kg Waist: 90cm I'll measure myself every two weeks I will consider this challenge complete if I do get a B on every subject on my degree and get at least a B on every other goal Side Quest - Life Quest Get at least a B in every subject I take for the first semester and look for overseas grants to spend next year abroad.
  8. Thanks for the support! A friend of mine came to town from abroad and we decided to go on vacation. Porto is not far away from our hometown and we had a great time but my goals got a little affected (Read feasting and partying). The support and accountability in this forum is a big part of what makes me go back on track.
  9. Back on track! It's been two weeks of missed workouts, holiday trips and general slacking but this monday I got back on my routine and did my 3.6km running, and 3 angry birds workout circuits. My pushups have gone down because I have started a fist pushup only policy to protect my wrists (they've been hurting lately) but my planks have improved a lot getting to 2 minutes the longest one and a total of 5:30 in three sets. Keeping up the good work although I know I am going to fail the challenge I want to finish it. I don't mind the result I want to keep pushing.
  10. Thanks for the support Keliswicked! I have been a little bit mislead with my sleep and did not manage to get outdoors this weekend, although all my workouts and the long run have been in the open air and in parks with plenty of grass and trees to clear my mind from being locked in, finishing my dissertation. I have gone out for my workout today but my wrists started to hurt when doing pushups and I cannot do as many pushups on my fists and I feel it has been kind of half-assed but still is a three circuit workout and a short run. I think I am going to switch to fist pushups even if I can do less of them because I don't want to hurt my wrists and miss the challenge.
  11. Friday at last! The week is going pretty well with two of the planned three workouts adding pushups and time to the planks and the long run (9.07km in 48.35min or 5:21min/km) and hoping to get the last workout tomorrow. All done in the open air and getting stronger. I have been doing well with my sleep although some napping has taken place. My dissertation is going strong but not as much as I had planned so I am taking it to the next level. if I want to it be the killer dissertation I planned by this september I have to work harder and don't get lost in petty details.
  12. So glad to hear we are helping! Getting back on track is everything the community and the challenge is about. I am glad to know you got up, made your goals smarter and made us proud to be part of something bigger. How is the cooking going?
  13. It has been a bit difficult to keep with my schedule since a lot of friends have come to town and I am getting a lot of bar time. But I kept most of my goals missed the long run but managed to have the shorter runs, the workouts and two days outdoors with 6 out of 7 days with 7 hours or more of sleep. I think it is a B for workouts a definite A for outdoors and an A- for sleeping which I think keeps me with an A-/B+ which is not bad. Hadn't I planned to take the challenge and planned for some deviations from the plan I would have given up but I am going strong with it. Last workout I did not manage to get better results in any of the exercises but my run to the park was the fastest ever 7:48 for 1.8 km. That is 4:20 km and I am getting closer to my goal of doing it in under 7:12 minutes (4min/km)
  14. Hi S Skywalker! I try to plan my day so I can get at least the feel of outdoors On normal days I work out in a park not far from my house (1.8km) with plenty of grassland and trees, for long runs I go running to the parks beside one of the rivers of my hometown. These spots are not precisely wilderness but they are good enough. I also try to get the dogs for a long walk everyday and smaller ones that keep the feeling of being trapped indoors at bay (for them and for me). I try to walk everywhere I go and plan excursions on the weekends even if they are quite short. For instance a two hour hike not far away from the town takes 10 minutes driving to get there and another 10 to come back and you can fit that on any not too busy day. About forestry engineering is how it is called here in Spain but americans prefer the term forester http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forester
  15. Outdoors day! I spent the afternoon hiking somwhere not far. The friday night I expected to be "grab one and head home" ended at 6 o'clock in the morning and without much energy left for anything but you are never too tired for fresh air.
