  1. I took the GRE math subject test yesterday. It did not go well, at all. I had reviewed all the questions from the practice test but there were many problems that had the same topic or question type as the practice test but was either a lot more complicated or far more in depth on the topic.

Throughout this challenge I did narrow down by list of possible graduate programs, but I never got through one iteration (I started with any schools I found in two international lists of engineering schools, and did not get through a cursory look at the whole list.) The first look for each is just language of instruction and the existence of the area of engineering I want to get into.

  2. The heroes have calmed the city, and begun to rebuild it. Even the villains realized that without a city there is nothing to subjugate. The long battle had taken its toll on the group of villainy and they simply could not continue the assault. The heroes had beaten them, a fact the villains finally came to accept, and they left to wreak havoc elsewhere or returned to hibernation within the general population waiting for their chance to come again.

  3. Thanks so much for organizing this! Sorry to be such a pain, but aggh, I'm kind of having anxiety about this now. Really haven't done any RP thing like this before. And now I feel like I broke the rules last time, but honestly not quite sure what the rules were.  I did say something about Jitters character dying, but I just figured someone would save him. But maybe that was wrong? And well, yea, the plausibility was way stretched, but, I  thought that was funny (yeah I have an odd sense of humor :redface-new: )Maybe I'm over thinking this.  Sorry, really not very good at the RP thing I guess, maybe I should just watch guys for a bit and see how it works.

No one is at fault, it is just a suggestion for improvement. I first learned roleplaying the same way, starting in a god-like thread then switching to other threads with slightly more rules (primarily social/assumed rules as opposed to stated) every so often. Really, the biggest factor is that the style and character power are dependent upon others because even in this thread of newbies everyone was good about being on the same scale/evenly matched in actions and allowing some hits to land and others to be blocked/deflected.

Perhaps going forward, buildings could have a certain amount of hit points and if the villains get enough points, it's destroyed.  For instance, building has 15 HP and I attack a building for 5.  My fellow villains attack for another 5 bringing it down to 5 HP left.  The Heroes rally and give 7 back, but then the villains give it their all and go for 12 points and the building is destroyed?  Then we move on to the next one?  spreads things out a bit and it's not as focused on 2 or 3 attacks?  I don't know.  I'm sleep deprived.  I must say, I have had a lot of fun with this PVP.  Having the teams going head to head was a lot of fun, and I think it pushed us more during our 6WC.  Thank you very much, Harika, for getting this together.  You did great!

That might help the RP not have to escalate so far if places are switched more frequently. Perhaps whoever introduces a location/building is allowed to list the hp of the structure if they want to fight that way? An old residence of stone could be 20 hp with the hero read to block up to +3 of attack? [20/20 +3] or a wood-based building a villain just sent a vehicle into with 4 points as [11/15]. It would obviously be optional and if the person who introduces the location does not then it is only in RP how destroyed it is? One issue is that with an active battle rebuilding is unlikely, so the HP could never go up and heroes would just be lowering or preventing hits from getting to the structure. On the other hand, that is the nature of defense.

The brief pause in conflict ended when the clear-headed re-emerged, masked donned, villains and heroes alike ready for the final confrontation.  Calm in mind, the villains were now prepared to unleash a chaos not yet seen in the city while the heroes aimed to release the calm as the ultimate weapon against villainy and pacify the city.

    Week 6 (Final): (Monday-Friday)

This last show-down of good versus evil (or mischief if preferred) was to be a battle of inner strength. The heroes have primarily prevailed in the most recent outbreak of war, but the villains were not yet ready to accept defeat nor to make the choice to leave to conquer new lands or remain as a peaceful citizen. No, the fight was not over.

    Core exercises!

Make sure to do a base 60s max for any variation you do, and record it.

Leg lifts, hollow holds, supermans/catapulter (same thing, but for villains), or hanging leg/knee raises.

Points to be used for RPing, just be sure any teleporting is in-character - to make the battle more interesting, and try not to be definite with significant damage/dodging so there is still something to play against; without a city, what is there to protect or rule?

  5. I vacuumed a room I have not bothered with, while also vacuuming the rest of the house.

I checked out the crawl space - part of a larger project that I have been putting off by not looking in at the space.

I did the first step of organizing my online accounts, the next steps include getting rid of some.

I set up a video call with a few people I have not spoken with in a long time.

Checked into getting a transit card.

  6. I prefer the Japanese version that was/is on G4. American shows seem to focus on wanting people to fail, and this show is not much different. (Consider singing shows - when good singers get real screen time during the try-outs it is because by appearance end up surprising us.) The Japanese show had people that would try every year and since the expectation is that the course was unbeatable, success was based on dedication, returning to compete, or just showing up to try.

  7. Monday: Parkour day. Okay here is where I hit a new milestone for me. I've always been scared of running in Brussels, the cars, the people (especially the eyes) have always dissuaded me from parkouring inside the city. Which is kind of stupid because parkour is an urban sport. But this day I broke the fear and ran, i ran fast, didn't look behind me, didn't look at other people. I ran so hard my abs were burning (the uphill climbs had something to do with that too) but i fell a sense of accomplishment and freedom afterwards. I'm glad I did this.

and afterwards either delve a bit more into Muay Thai philosophy, or continue reading George RR Martin

Awesome!  Now, you just need to get one of those assassin's creed hoodies to wear while you're parkour running.   :)

I had assumed that was the source of being able to run with fearlessness. Bonus points for fearlessness without a mask!

I'd wear a mask, but I also assume all parkour is awesome enough for passerbys to video and post online . . . and dislike photos.

I just finished A Game of Thrones last challenge, still need to start A Clash of Kings but let Sherlock Holmes interrupt the series.

Acceptable. Have you seen BBC's adaptation? It killed the mystery on a few of the stories, but I enjoyed how BBC mixed or merged stories so that the two (books and BBC show) are both good in their own way, instead of the default "the books were better".

  8. Week 3 Update:

Total running mileage - 20.8 miles

I also achieved my first ever unassisted chin up!

    Week 4 update:

Saturday - Epic leg day @ gym with a sadistic "friend" then a 600m swim in an attempt to loosen off!

Total weekly running mileage - 23.5 miles

I also finished just under on calories for the week

Also related to this challenge I have signed up for a half marathon

     Quoted/edited for emphasis.

You did some awesome stuff, don't hide it so much.

  9. Goal 1: Prepare for and Take the Math GRE subject test

There are 6 weeks, and I am behind

    Goal 2: Find Graduate Programs

I will set the number to 4. I need to find some I like, read the research out of the department, and contact the writers I find interesting.

    Goal 3: Write Letters

At least 6, typed for editing then handwritten to send.

Goal 1: I attempted Linear Algebra while traveling, but without the answer book (none in the book and not online) I could not verify I was on the right track. I started Khan's version of the subject. I attempted the first 10 problems of the practice GRE subject test, 4/10 were right, 5 were ones I was not sure about how to do.

Goal 2: I looked into second bachelor options, or classes to bring my gpa up, and eliminated 8 possible graduate programs last night.

    Goal 3: 0

The momentum of new ideas was not enough for the villains to defeat the heroes in a display of strength. The heroes sprung from the ground, up from their defeat, and emerged victorious through the close contest. Both sides fought hard and well, but it was now time to return to their lairs, caves, fortresses, and manors to nurse wounds and celebrate or plan a new assault.

    Mission 5: (Monday-Saturday)

One's lair/cave is a refection of one's mental state, for where we are most sheltered we allow our inner chaos or calm to be set free.

This week, the aim is to shorten your to-do list to clear it of clutter and gain some mental peace. Look at your to-do list, and find the items that would take 5 minutes (maybe up to 10) and just do it now. One point will be awarded for each item completed.

Note: Doing some work (5 minutes) on a task that is large but otherwise put off for at least a month may count, but only once per task. For example, if you have put off working on a writing project for many weeks, some work on it will count, but only for one point for the whole week no matter how much time you work on it.

  11. That sentence is a little poorly worded.  "Class" and "Guild" really shouldn't be used interchangeably.  What she means is that we can't make our own Guild for the challenges.  To participate in the challenges we have to pick one of the 7 NF Guilds and its subforum to participate in.  Ideally after completing the first challenge with the Level 1 group.

If you want to call your Class something different than the Guild you're participating in, there's nothing wrong with that.  Nobody really cares if someone calls themselves a ninja, or a jedi, or a whateveryouwant class while participating in their chosen Guild for a challenge.  You use whatever you need to use to motivate yourself to succeed.

I thought it might have been backwards, that we can choose our class (where we want to go) but not our race (starting body type), however what I am thinking of is from the blog, not the RPing rules.
