  1. Hey Inochi, The cosplay ideas sound awesome. You'll get there if you stick with it. Just try not to overdo it. Not fun when you overdo it... And yes, Belegarth is pretty fun stuff. Check it out some time. Belegarth. And Dagorhir is a very similar game: Dagorhir.
  2. Hey Seri, Traveling is always my Kryptonite when it comes to sticking to my paleo diet. It's fantastic that you are being proactive about planning meals, rather than just throwing in the towel and saying "oh well, I'm on vacation" like I usually do...
  3. Hey cr8on, I too can empathize with the whole not-happy-looking-in-the-mirror thing... Stick with it and you'll get there.
  4. Hi spezzy, I actually live in Bloomington, IN about an hour south of Indy. Fun little college town. I moved here last September. Powerlifting and CrossFit are way too hardcore for me at this point, but I would love to meet the woman, the myth, the legend at some point. --Persevero
  5. Well, fellow rebels, I regret to announce that due to an unforeseen increase in work hours, my goal of writing 5000 words per week is simply out of reach. I will have to pick this up at a later date, though I will continue outlining and writing a few passages when the mood strikes me. On to the good news: So far, so good with my other five goals, minus this morning I was unable to pry myself out of bed on time. Still got my workout in after work though so I'll call it a win overall. Also I'm going to go on a 7 to 8 mile hike through Hoosier National Forest on Friday. Should be a good time. I hope it is. I only dropped like $120+ on new gear... Haha. Seriously though, I'm really excited to get back into hiking. Soldiers do lots of marching after all...
  6. Thanks Seri. In coming up with my story I can say that it is the definition of scatterbrained... I probably have changed the basic premise completely 6 or 7 times since I first said "I'm gonna write my own scifi stuff, stupid George Lucas!" That's literally how it all started... But yeah, it seems every 6 months or so I think of something that is simply too awesome to not include in the story. At this point, I have a fairly decent handle on what I want to do going forward. My main problem is I love the world shaping aspect but I'm hideously inept at the actual writing aspect. But I guess I would only get better at writing if I actually practice writing. You can't start revising until you actually have words on the page, ya know? So yeah, I have a lot of isolated scenes that I need to string together somehow. I have been dreading making an actual outline but I should probably make one as it would help the said stringing-together process.
  7. Ok first things first: My bathroom scale stopped at 200 this morning. I was pushing 240 last October. I'm pretty frakking excited... Starting Measurements Height: 6' 0'' Weight: 200 lbs. (woot!!) Chest: 41.5" Gut: 39.5" Waist: 38" Biceps: 13.5" Thighs: 24.5" Body fat: 21% (caliper) Got my workout in this morning. Onward to victory! Rah! Thanks cr8on. If that does happen, I will indeed still participate in the challenges. Haha.
  8. Hello fellow rebels! I am late to the party, I know, but I can no longer sit idly by and continue to passively stalk the NF blogs and forums. So here I am. My name is Michael and I am a 24 year old engineer, but in my much of my spare time I am Persevero, a Roman soldier in the boffer fighting game of Belegarth. (Yes, I am a boffer fighter. No, I am not a LARPer. What's the difference, you ask? I don't throw bean bags at people while yelling "Lightning bolt! Lightning bolt!") I have decided that I need this community to hold me accountable to my fitness goals. In other words, I am lazy and I need your help. I am marching to war against my greatest adversary: My own laziness... Main Quest <15% body fat; One. Frakking. Pull up. Current Campaign Goals 1) No video games until AFTER working out. I need to work out either as soon as I wake up or as soon as I get home from work in the evening. If I start playing video games first, it's game over for my work out that day. This must stop. I will grade this on a weekly basis. A - 7 days of no video games before working out. B - 6 days of no video games before working out. C - 5 days of no video games before working out. D - 4 days of no video games before working out. F - 3 or less days of no video games before working out. 2) No more than 2 non-Paleo meals per week. Over the last 2 months or so since discovering NF, I have more or less transitioned over to Paleo, except in the eating out arena. It would be foolish to think that I can eliminate eating out entirely, so I am trying to reduce it to a firm 2 meals per week that I can lax on the Paleo side. (Paleo, even at 70% or so has been fantastic so far. I'm down around 15lbs.) I will grade this on a weekly basis. A - 2 or less B - 3 C - 4 D - 5 F - 6 or more 3) Beginner Bodyweight Workout (BBWW) 3 times per week. This workout is fantastic for a soft nerd like me to transition into strength training. Now I need to stick to a schedule. I will grade this on a weekly basis. A - 3 times B - 2 times C - 1 time F - 0 times 4) On non-strength training days, do something cardio-related (exercise bike, Tabata sprint, Belegarth, etc.) I will grade this on a weekly basis. A - 4 cardio workouts that week. B - 3 cardio workouts that week. C - 2 cardio workouts that week. D - 1 cardio workouts that week. F - 0 cardio workouts that week. 5) Life-goal: On work mornings, set alarm for 5am. No snooze. Must stop being so lazy in the mornings before work. Again, I will grade this weekly. A - 4 mornings out of bed on time. B - 3 mornings out of bed on time. C - 2 mornings out of bed on time. D - 1 mornings out of bed on time. F - 0 mornings out of bed on time. 6) Life-goal: Write 5000 words per week of sci-fi novel. I have been working on a science fiction novel for almost 4 years now with very little to show for it outside of my own head. I need to get it down on to paper. Again, grading this weekly A - 5000 or more B - 3500 - 4999 C - 2000 - 3499 D - 1000 - 1999 F - less than 1000 Postponed due to increased work schedule. :-( My Motivation --One is for myself. I play as a Roman soldier most weekends but rarely do I feel like a Roman soldier. I feel like a weak, soft, out of shape nerd. Needed: more soldier, less nerd. Time to make Maximus, Yoda, King Leonidas, Tony Stark, and Commander Shepard proud! --Two is for my brother's wedding in December. My two little brothers got the fast metabolism genes in the family. Tall and skinny without even trying, both of them... Irritating... I am so frakking sick of being the fat brother. So help me God, I will not be the "fat brother" at that wedding. I wish all of us good luck and Godspeed in our respective challenges. I will try to update this challenge thread twice a week. My measurements and other relevant health stats I will post tomorrow. Strength and Honor, --Persevero
