  1. Hi Rin! I'm 18 and in Texas (and a girl, btw, cause it's creepy to not know), but I'd be happy to keep you accountable if you return the favor. I'd love to get into capoeira, but can't find a class. I've done tae kwon do and I know how to swim, but I'm super slow. ;-)
  2. About a year and a half ago, my parents decided that my sister and I were too fat and needed to go on a diet with them. We did Atkins, Paleo, and several others I can't remember. (My parents did their research and found legit diets by Rebellion standards) So, despite incredible boredom with the bland foods they made me eat, I did what I was supposed to and I was gaining fat faster than on a pasta/bread/potatoes diet. I am 5'0", and now weigh 175 lbs. I literally gained 10 pounds in one week. I popped a button today on my pants. Can someone tell me what is going on? I know it wasn't muscle ga
  3. Early in June I started doing to Atkins diet. I wasn't 100%, but I was eating a lot better than previously (read: loves bread, potatoes, and pasta). Negative results. Around mid-September I switched to Paleo. With the exception of 4 off days and salad dressing, I've been 100%. Since I started eating healthy in June, I've gained about twenty pounds - and not just water weight or something; I've seen the gain around my middle. Over the past five years or so, I've been watching my weight slowly creep up thirty pounds; then, in four and a half months, I shoot up twenty! What am I doing wrong? I s
  4. I know you have to eat a surplus of quality calories to build muscle, but can those calories be drawn from the fat around my middle? Can I be eating to lose weight, while still doing push ups and training for a 5K? Also, I was doing Atkins for fat loss, but I'm thinking of switching to Paleo because if I mis-eat one day on Atkins I have to start over, but not so for Paleo. (Is this correct?) Also because I can eat fruit in Paleo. ;-) My question in two part: 1) can I eat dairy in Paleo and still lose weight? Will it slow weight loss? and 2) why is dairy not Paleo?
  5. Hi! Several questions, but first background. I am 5'0", female, 18, and about 45 pounds overweight. 1. Half my family is doing Atkins ( the other half doesn't need to lose weight, which makes it really hard ), but I'm having a really hard time doing it because I can't seem to keep my carb count down. I'm eating the right foods, but I keep eating too many vegetables (cauliflower, brussel sprouts, green beans, etc), and I'm never sure if I'm using too much salad dressing (I like French and Caesar). Is there something I can do to make this easier, or is it something I just need to deal with?
  6. Hi all, My family recently decided to go on the Atkins diet, and I was wondering how this compares to Paleo. I've always loved fruit and potatoes and having to leave that out is hitting me the hardest, so does anybody know of any comparisons done or anything? Does one have a significant advantage over the other? Could I mix them (I love dairy too)? Which one gives me the fastest and best results? If you can, please include a source for your information (personal experience included). Thank you so much!!
  7. I do solely bodyweight excercise in a small space. I do mainly pushups, squats, lunges, and inverted rows, with the occaisional burpee thrown in. Most of the time I do Steve's 5 minute workout or Angry Bird Workout. There's nothing more I can do because of uncontrollable circumstances. I have two questions. First, how often do I need to take a rest day? How much of a rest does it have to be? I mean, I can see not doing the angry bird workout every day, but can I alternate it with the 5 minute? Second, how do I keep my muscles confused so they don't adapt? Does just forcing them to their
  8. Over the course of fifteen days, I followed a program that worked me up to ten normal pushups. At that point, I was able to easily to 8, could manage a 9th, and was able to barely squeeze out the 10th. The next day I took a break day, and the following day I was only able to do 6. A week ago today I could only do 3 and had to revert to knee pushups (17). Why did this happen? What can I do to make sure it doesn't happen again?
  9. Thanks. What about interval training? That post specifically says to stretch beforehand. (http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2009/01/27/kick-your-ass-and-kickstart-your-metabolism-in-20-minutes/) And what muscles do I stretch when I'm done?
  10. So Steve emphasises a lot the need to stretch before a workout but he doesn't say which muscles to stretch. Can someone give me an exact list? I'm wanting to do the beginner bodyweight workout and interval training (running and stationary bike). Exactly which muscles do I need to stretch for those workouts? Thanks
  11. From what I could figure out, dairy is okay if my body is okay with it (i.e. lactose tolerant). Is this accurate? And what exactly is wrong with normal potatoes? Thanks!
  12. Ok, so I want to start going Paleo, and I have about 25 pounds to lose. My question is this: My parents recently tried going nearly vegan and cutting all animal products out of our diet, and that didn't work. They're not going to want to go Paleo. ( Trust me on this; I know my parents. Please do not suggest talking to them.) Pasta and (homemade) bread are main staples in our diet. Does anybody have any suggestions for how I can start eating Paleo? (My parents would never let me eat something different than what was made) (Mods, I am 18. My parents held me back a year I school.) I've started do
