  1. Oh boy, this is a really busy week, i'm not getting chances to update at all! Wednesday Exercise: Once again, bright and early for the beginner body weight workout. I keep saying that I need to up it a little, yet every time I stay at the same pace. I'll have to push a little harder Score: 3/3 splinters of wood Wednesday Diet: Nothing particularly special, had a salad for lunch. What can I say? XD Score: 3/3 shards of metal ~~ 0/1 fancy metal designs Wednesday Rest: Bright and early for exercise, I'm running out of ways to say this Score: 3/3 small sharpening stones ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thursday Exercise: Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to exercise, got up and started working on stuff right away. I'll make up for it on Friday Score: 3/4 splinters of wood Thursday Diet: I made a nice little stir-fry with beef, bean sprouts, broccoli, and green onion. Nothing new, but at least it tastes good, is filling, and is pretty healthy. I'm always sure to put a good amount of spices on, as it adds some fun to the dish I don't tend to take pictures of my stir fry's because I just make them so often. Score: 4/4 shards of metal ~~ 0/1 fancy metal designs Thursday Rest: As is the case with last week, I woke up nice and early, but then got home from my game group around 2 in the morning XD Oh well, I guess losing half a point a week isn't so bad, especially when it comes to having a good and active social life Score: 3.5/4 small sharpening stones
  2. Classes ran late last night, so once again I didn't have a chance to update before going to bed. So here is yesterday's report! Exercise: I must say, it is getting pretty easy to just head to the gym every morning. I wouldn't go as far as saying that I "enjoy" it yet, but it is less of a chore than it was before Did another body weight workout, no differences yet. I should really start upping it a little bit. Score: 2/2 splinters of wood Diet: Pretty normal day, but I still need to go grocery shopping. Had some eggs and canadian bacon for breakfast, and a salad for lunch. I also bought a small package of Ghost Chili Peppers (1 million scoville units) and some friends and I both tried eating one. Wasn't a great idea, I could feel the pain in my ears XD We were hacking, coughing and gagging for like half an hour, and it was even worse for me because I'm not allowed to drink milk under Paleo I'm defenitely not doing that again. Score: 2/2 shards of metal ~~ 0/1 fancy metal designs Rest: What can I say, another day, another perfect score. Score: 2/2 small sharpening stones ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thanks! You should definitely try cooking some new recipes, it's always great to add to your repertoire Thanks! Glad I could help! Rofl thanks! I haven't ever cooked a western omelet, and I would love the recipe! Send it over Thanks for the high praise! And I love the video XD!
  3. Whoooey, I've been really busy over the last two days, haven't even had a chance to update! Time to do two days at once, plus the end of week report. Sunday Exercise: Got up bright and early to do yet another workout. Nothing of note to mention, besides the fact that it's getting easier to do each week. Score: 5.5/7 splinters of wood Sunday Diet: Cooked up a nice batch of veal liver, bok choy, and a vegetable stir fry, turned out absolutely delicious (I make stir fries quite often, my paleo meal of choice!). It lasted me the whole day, and I was quite satisfied with it. Maybe next time I'll try some new vegetables; going with the same old combo of broccoli, radish, red onion, green onion, bean sprouts, cabbage, and carrots is getting a little boring. I'm considering cauliflower, celery, and maybe some leek. Score: 7/7 shards of metal ~~ 2/1 fancy metal designs Sunday Rest: Woke up nice and early for my workout, and had a pretty long day. Went to be a little earlier than expected (fell asleep around 9:45 I believe), so I didn't get a chance to update then XD Score: 6.5/7 small sharpening stones END OF WEEK 1 REPORT: Man, has it really been a week already? The challenge is 1/6th done? Wow, that sure went by quickly. I must say i'm enjoying the challenge so far, and I hope that I'll be able to keep up the good pace as I continue. Let's have a look at how my week went: Week 1 Exercise: It looks like I started kind of slowly, but that's to be expected when you start exercising from scratch that quickly. My current workout is a normal Beginner's Body Weight Circuit, with the jumping jack count upped to 50 instead of 20, and using 50 pound weights for the lifting portion. As of now I can still only complete two full sets before being unable to continue, but it gets a little easier each time I complete them. This week, I'm hoping to do at least one full set of three circuits. In a slightly related note, I feel like I can hold the plank for longer than 15 seconds (maybe up to 16 or 17 now), so I'll probably up the time on that as well. Scoring: I got a score of 5.5 out of a possible 7, putting me slightly above my goal of 5 days per week. I feel that's a pretty good start, but it is still only worth a normal handle. I'm really hoping for that ornate one! I'll have to up my game in the coming weeks, wish me luck! Week 1 Diet: Well, after a full month of eating completely paleo, it really isn't all that hard to continue doing so! I managed to cook up two new recipes this week (the spaghetti squash and the bacon and egg cups), but I still cooked pretty much every day. It really helps to be a good cook when trying to eat paleo, as all that pre-prepared stuff and most microwaveable things are a big no-no on the diet Yesterday I picked up a bag of Coconut Flour (paleo flour), and I'm trying to think of something to make with it. Maybe a paleo meatloaf? I'll have to have a look around for things that use flour, vegetables, and meat. Feel free to make some suggestions, I'm open to them. Scoring: I got a score of 7 out of a possible 7, which is completely in line with my eating goal, and I got a score of 2 new recipes out of a possible 1 (I don't know how that works, but alright ), which actually puts me ahead of the maximum goal so far. Looking good, and I hope the coming week will be just as much so! Week 1 Rest: With my handy-dandy alarm clock by my side, waking up at 7 every morning is really not all that hard. Granted, I am a morning person, and I've woken up at 6 or even 5 quite often in the past, but doing it every day feels like an accomplishment . The only thing is my Thursday board-game meeting. I can't just leave early and miss out (my classes end at 8pm, so if left early I would only be there for all of an hour XD), but at the same time, it's taking away from the goal a little . I'll have to find a balance, maybe do it every other week instead of each week? I'll need to figure something out. The goal is 6 days a week, so I'm still going to be alright with that one miss, but I won't be able to get the ornate blade that I so desperately want. Ah well. Scoring: I got a score of 6.5 our of a possible 7, which is above the goal of 6 days per week, but below the super-goal of 7 days per week. If I get 6.5 every week, should that count for the ornate blade? We'll have to see if the rest of the challenge works out that way. Week 1 final verdict: Drum roll please! Brbrtbtbbbtbrbtrbtbrbrtbt tsh....Ornate! (but just barely) Well that was certainly a fun week, I wonder what the next one will have in store for us. Keep it healthy, fellow rebels, and I hope to see you all on the battlefield! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Monday Exercise: Once again, up and early for a body weight workout, nothing particularly different, I need to start trying to get that 3rd set in, even if I can't complete the whole thing Score: 1/1 splinters of wood Monday Diet: A nice paleo day, but we have yet to go grocery shopping for this week, so I had to live with some spiced eggs in the morning, and some vegetable and fruit snacks throughout the day. I'll go shopping tomorrow and start cooking some stuff Score: 1/1 shards of metal ~~ 0/1 fancy metal designs Monday Rest: Why break the pattern? Yet another day of perfect score on the resting front, I'm just going to finish up this post and head right to bed! Score: 1/1 small sharpening stones I hope everyone else has had a great first week! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thanks for the suggestions! I'll be sure to try some of them out next time I make a sauce! And the bacon and egg cups are AMAZING! I'm defenitely going to make them more often, but I hate the clean up of the muffin tin afterwards XD I might invest in some of those wax paper muffin wrappers or something to make it easier on me.
  4. Didn't have a chance to update last night before going to bed, so this score is for yesterday: Exercise: Yet another beginner body weight workout, I feel like they're getting easier to do each time I didn't change it around at all, its still 50 pound weights and 50 jumping jacks, I'm thinking of holding weight while lunging and squatting as well Score: 4.5/6 splinters of wood Diet: I cooked some bacon and egg cups for breakfast, they turned out really tasty! I got out my muffin tin and placed several pieces of canadian bacon into it, to make a sort of cup like shape. Cracked an egg into each one and baked it for 20 minutes at 350 degrees F. Didn't take any pictures unfortunately, but they did turn out quite well Score: 6/6 shards of metal ~~ 2/1 fancy metal designs Rest: Yet another day of getting up and going to bed at the right time. I like how it I wake up in the morning feeling ready to go, it really helps for the morning workouts. Score: 5.5/6 small sharpening stones Stay tuned for today's update
  5. I never had any problems with the withdrawals I used to eat pretty healthily actually, I would have a good meal and then snack on a bag of chips or some crap afterward, so just cutting out the chips and stuff wasn't much of a problem. As for jarred sauce, most jarred sauce has various preservatives and sugars that are a big no-no for the paleo diet, so your only real option is to make it yourself. I was suggesting the jarred sauce for anyone who wanted to try the recipe and wasn't on a strict paleo diet
  6. Another day, another scoring round, Exercise: I just got back from my exercise, did another body weight workout with no changes since the last time, though I do feel like it is getting easier to do it! Score: 3.5/5 splinters of wood Diet: Once again, nothing particularly interesting cooking wise, just another paleo day Score: 5/5 shards of metal ~~ 1/1 fancy metal designs Rest: Despite yesterday's late night, I got up at 7 again. Pretty soon I feel like I won't even need the alarm anymore XD Score: 4.5/5 small sharpening stones
  7. Can't say I'm familiar with IF, I thought you meant IT as in Interval Training
  8. Well, time for yet another scoring round: Exercise: Unfortunately, I once again didn't get a chance to head down to the gym (tons of school stuff, was pretty busy), so I tried to make up for it by doing a bunch of walking. I managed to get a substantial amount of walking done, so I feel like that should count for atleast half a point I won't miss tomorrow, I can be sure of that. Score: 2.5/4 splinters of wood Diet: Yet another 100% paleo day. Nothing spectacular today, had some salad and some fruit, and cooked up a bunch of boneless skinless chicken thighs to eat over the next few days (lots of spices used, yummy!). Score: 4/4 shards of metal ~~ 1/1 fancy metal designs Rest: Up at 7 again, nice and early, and once again beat the alarm by about 10 minutes or so. I was woken up around 5 am by my cat scratching at a door across the hall, turns out he managed to get himself locked in the closet while my dad was feeding the dog (we keep the dog food in the closet). Ah well, not much sleep lost Thursdays are the day when I meet with a bunch of friends and we play Dungeons and Dragons and various board games until relatively late, so there is no way I'm going to be able to get to bed by 10 on Thursdays with out messing up my social life. Ah well, a price I'm willing to pay Score: 3.5/4 small sharpening stones (0.5 because I woke up at 7, but I'm only getting to bed now, and it's almost 1 in the morning ) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I haven't actually, I haven't done any kind of exercise (besides walking to and from work everyday, roughly 20 minutes each way) since I started paleo, and IT is not really on my list of exercises I'm a pretty big guy, and with my knee problems I just never was big on running. We'll see if it changes as I continue doing challenges, but for the time being, I'm not a runner
  9. Accidental double post, sorry about that. Anyone know how to remove a post?
  10. Another day, another perfect score Exercise: Got up and had a bit of breakfast this time (had a single sausage, a banana, some vitamins, and a nectarine for some energy) and then went down to the gym. Managed another two full circuits of the beginner's body weight workout, with 50 jumping jacking instead of 20, and this time I also upped the deadlift weight to 50 pounds, and held a set of 35 pounds weights in each hand on the second set of 20 squats. I was panting by the end of it, but it felt nice Score: 2/3 Splinters of Wood Diet: One of my friends had just gotten back from Spain yesterday, and we arranged to have brunch together this morning. Unfortunately, she is a pure vegan, so together we're pretty difficult to feed. We decided to go with a local bakery that specializes in scones. I ordered some scrambled eggs (minus the milk) with some smoked salmon. It came with some fruit, a few greens, a drink (I chose water, of course) and a scone of my choosing. The cashier was slightly confused when I stated that I couldn't eat scones, and initially offered me a gluten free scone instead It took a bit of persistence to finally get my food, but it was certainly delicious. I then went to the local grocery and picked up a crown of broccoli, which I snacked on for the rest of the morning. Has a salad and an apple for lunch, and finishing the day off now with some water. Score: 3/3 shards of metal ~~ 1/1 fancy metal designs Rest: I'm not sure what to say, yet another day of up at 7 and bed at 10. I'm not sure if I even need my alarm any more, I seem to constantly wake up 10 to 15 minutes before it goes off Score: 3/3 small sharpening stones Thankfully I got the measurements done this morning, so I'm glad to have a starting point I lost roughly 2 kilos over a month of 100% paleo, and I wonder how much I'll lose now that I'm throwing a good amount of exercise into the mix.
  11. Woohoo! Today is measurement day! It has now officially been one full month since I went 100% paleo, let's see how it's going for me: Height: 6'1.5" (this is unchanged, obviously ) Weight: 131 kg (288 pounds). A month ago, I didn't even register on the scale, but using some trickery I managed to get that I was about 133kg. 2 kg in a month? Not bad at all, I wonder how it will be now that the challenge has started. I didn't measure the following ones the first time, so these are all just a starting point for the challenge: Waist: 48 Chest: 46 Hips: 46 (I'm not sure how accurate this is, my size 46 pants barely stay up anymore ) Biceps: 15 Neck: 17 Thighs: 28 Calfs: 18.5 I'm happy to have the measurements up finally, I can get a good starting point for myself Off to the gym!
  12. Today was pretty good, I got yet another near perfect score Exercise: Unfortunately, I had a lot going on today, so I didn't manage to get myself down to the gym. I'll definitely being going tomorrow, though! It's a good thing I didn't make it 7 days a week Score: 1/2 Splinters of Wood Diet: Yet another day of 100% paleo, not much of a surprise considering I'm already almost a month in! However, I did make some time to cook a new recipe today! I cooked up some NerdFitness Paleo Spaghetti, and I took some pictures to boot! I actually quite enjoy cooking, and do it quite often (pretty hard to eat 100% paleo if you can't cook). Unfortunately, this dish was rather bland. I think it was the sauce, but I'm not sure. If anyone else decides to give this a go, I suggest using a real spaghetti sauce Anyway, that's a new recipe for this week down! WooHoo! Score: 2/2 shards of metal ~~ 1/1 fancy metal designs Rest: Once again, I beat my alarm to waking up. I enjoy having more time to myself in the morning, I'm considering making the alarm slightly earlier (maybe 6:45?) It is currently 10:07pm, so I'm going to wrap up this post and head on to bed for yet another perfect score! Score: 2/2 small sharpening stones All in all, a pretty good day. My friend just came back from Spain, and we're going to do some cooking, so I may just be able to get another new recipe under my belt for this week. I was thinking something with chicken breast...
  13. Thanks for all the support everyone! Rofl thanks! Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of metal, but Viking is always good on my list!
  14. Well, today was certainly a great start to the challenge! I'm going to be scoring myself in my 3 quests every day, and I'll make a big recap of the week and my observations on every Sunday. I'll be scoring each category with a possible 1 point per day (points earned so far / possible points so far). The diet section will have two different scores: 1 point per day if I was 100% paleo, and an additional 1 point per week if I learned and cooked a new recipe that week. Exercise: First thing in the morning, I went down to the gym and managed to complete two full circuits of the Beginners Body Weight circuit, using 45 pound dumbbells and upping the jumping jack to 50 from 30. It certainly got my heart pumping, an excellent feeling that early in the morning. However, I did make one mistake that I'll have to be careful of in the future: I did the workout on an empty stomach. I felt sick after finishing, and I definitely will have to watch that. From now on, breakfast first, THEN hit the gym. Tomorrow is swimming day, and I'll be sure to grab some food before hitting that water. Score: 1/1 splinters of (hard earned) wood (days of exercise) Diet: As I mentioned, I started being 100% paleo two days shy of a month from today (August 18th), so sticking with it really isn't a challenge at this point. Had a salad for lunch, and a salad for dinner, with a few fruits in between. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to cook anything special today because of school, my x-ray appointment, and grocery shopping, but I now have the materials to make something tasty for tomorrow's lunch. I'm thinking a nice big plate of NerdFitness Paleo Spaghetti. Score: 1/1 shards of metal (100% paleo days) -- 0/1 fancy metal designs (learned/cooked new recipes) Rest: Started off quite strong today, woke up by myself about 15 minutes before my alarm, and started my day right away without even waiting for it. As I mentioned in my Exercise bit, I went down to the gym pretty soon (about 10 to 15 minutes) after waking up. All I gotta do now is head to bed by 10pm and I'll have a near perfect Day 1! Score: 1/1 small sharpening stones ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thanks megzilla! Always good to know that people are interested in my progress! I'll be sure to keep it updated as often as I can! Thanks Daggart, glad I could help! Sure thing! As for the job hunt, not all that great :/ I still need to head over to the nearby bar area and see if anyone is looking for help. Thankfully I live right down town, so finding a bar isn't all that difficult!

  19. Welcome to the rebellion Fatalchemist, always great to have a mystic among our ranks! I love the way you translated your goals and mission into the fantasy universe! Good luck on your goals, and I hope to see you on the battlefield!
  20. Gratz on sticking with it! If you really need a quick paleo energy boost, fruit could do wonders. Just remember not to have too much, fruit has sugars in it as well!
  21. Hey Sunshine, glad to hear I inspired someone! Unfortunately I can't give too much advice on how to deal with not having enough energy on paleo, as I am kind of a weird person myself! Even on paleo, I have felt no difference in energy levels from before, even during workouts. Sugar and caffeine doesn't affect me, I'm a morning person (I get up early usually and am energetic when I do), and I've gone through days perfectly happily on only two hours of sleep (not a healthy thing to do, i'm sure). So, any advice I give might not be all that accurate, as I haven't had any experiences with it myself. HOWEVER! I do have an idea; How about we keep track of each other's progress? Post everything you do relating to paleo, and I'll be sure to keep a close eye and give encouragement whenever I have the chance! Good plan?
  22. Fine with me, glad I could spread some creativity
  23. Welcome to the rebellion Red Leader! I wish you good luck on your goals, and hope to see you on the battlefield!
  24. It is a series of computer characters that are accessed through special key strokes called "Alt-Codes". If you look up a list of all the alt codes, you'll see a few interesting borders like â•‘ and â•š. I made a grid out of those, then slapped some text inside it!
  25. Welcome to the rebellion Frank! As my quote says, "It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop". Stick with it, and you'll be sure to get the results you're looking for! Good luck on the challenge, and I hope to see you on the battlefield!
