  1. It's a drive-by Harpy Hi! Hey, you guys! I hope everyone is doing well and not going insane this holiday season. Jess, I see you kicking ass all over Twitter, and it is awesome. I now aspire to deadlift panda bears. And a Doge Christmas sweater appeared in my email yesterday (so Christmas!), which made me think of Bats and Jen. Also, Motivation Badger is exactly what I needed to see this morning. It must be fate. I intend to hit the challenges with you all again next year. The last couple of months have been a bit nuts due to double-proposal hell (but yay because money), and my innards still won't let me lift, but we have resumed the cardio at least. New challenges will probably focus a bit on food because of eating like a mastodon: according to hubs, a big, hairy, recently defrosted one, lol. I haven't really gained, but I haven't lost either, and I'm not ready to maintain yet. At any rate, good things are on the horizon. Take care of yourselves!
  2. Ooh, dang, I cratered a bit on this one, but I don't feel too badly about it. Sick happens (and keeps happening, wtf tonsils), but I got to spend a few days with my mom the last week of this challenge, and that was nice! Here's the wrap-up, better late than never. Bike Rides - We got up to 19.1 miles on the longest ride, so fairly close! We're going to pick back up on that training now that the weather is finally cooling off enough to not die when you step out the door.Calorie Deficit - This actually worked out pretty well! Went from 161.6 to 157.8.Water Drinkage - Has stayed pretty good, been hitting 80-120 ounces pretty consistentlyStretchings - The stretchings never quite happened this time. I had difficulty working it in.Getting Up Early - Totally cratered on this the last two weeks, lol. It will remain a work in progress. Thank you all for sticking around while I try to get my bod restarted! You're the best!
  3. Jeez Louise, things got busy lately. My team has been cranking away 24/7 on a ginormous proposal and finished it late last night. I couldn't even escape it in sleep, dreaming about staffing tables and pagination. /shudder Also got stupid sick and spent the better part of this week working with a fever, but it's getting better. I went out this morning and procured more Gatorade and chocolate. This weekend will be full of sleep and noms. Glorious. And! Last week when I was getting up early I wrote a guest post for my favorite fitness blog. It went up this morning, and it gives me warm fuzzies to see my verbosity on that page. It's here if you want to go giggle about boobs on a Friday morning. Regarding challenge goals, here's the breakdown for this week: Bike Rides - 0 miles because work schedule and sickitudeCalorie Deficit - not bad, will actually come in under, also because work schedule and sickitudeWater Drinkage - quite good, been hitting 120 ounces pretty consistentlyStretchings - a bit sporadic with this still, thinking of turning it into yogaGetting Up Early - was great with this last week, but put it on hold this week to sleep as much as possible because sick That big project put a hole in my challenge aspirations, but we'll be able to get back on track now. And I honestly can't remember what week we're in. Need moar sleep. Happy Friyay, guys! <3
  4. You just made me snortle before 8:00 in the morning. Victory! I am saving that picture to put on the fridge as leg day motivation when we hit the gym again. Also, got up at 6:00 this morning. Turns out moving the alarm across the room is super effective. :-P
  5. Holy update, BatGodzillaMan! (lol ) Thank you for getting me on the dog thing. I adore dogs, seriously, and shower them with love and pets every time I see one who wants the attention. They just activate Terror Mode when they run at me all bitey looking and barky. Sloth-Like, my tactic is the same and it's worked so far. I'm seriously considering buying some type of dog repellent spray from the bike shop in case we find one we can't outrun. Sorry to hear you got bitten and hope it wasn't severe. :-( We haven't gone out for a ride since the dog night. This is partially due to me needing time to get over the freakout and to me feeling like butt. Last week was a categorical fail as far as challenge goals, which has led me to reevaluate. Trying to hit the gym in addition to ride training just did not work; it's too soon. My gas tank doesn't have the capacity yet and neither does my core (so much pain!), so we're going to ditch that bullet point here in Week 4, replacing it with stretching. I've decided to save the weights for when it gets cold. Today has been good, though. Got the shopping and a ton of household and real work done, so now it's time to cook dinner and vegetate for a bit. Here's to a better Week 4! *\o/* *\o/* *\o/*
  6. It is getting easier in that my brain is starting to figure out it should wake up around that time. Rolling my carcass out of bed is still difficult, but hubs is helping me with that. Thankfully, he's the one who makes the coffee. :-D Yesterday went really well. Got some grocery shopping and braining done, made some chili in the crockpot, and went for a 15-mile ride. This one was a bit of a milestone because we only had to stop for a five-minute water break in the middle, and it had the gnarliest hills yet. It was a great and gorgeous ride (not so dang hot/windy) except for one thing... Rant Incoming An unfortunate truth about the countryside here is that people let their dogs run loose. I've always found this practice crappy because they get run over and occasionally attacked by other predators, which sucks for the dogs. They also chase innocent cyclists just trying to get in a good workout without extra heart palpitations. WHY DO PEOPLE LET THEIR DOGS RUN LOOSE?! It isn't safe for anybody, including the dogs! AAARGH! Seriously, it makes me want to drop-kick the owners. Anyway... Rant Over Most of the time when you pass a house with a loose dog, they'll run to the end of their yard, bark at you, and trot back home. We met a couple of those last night, and while they make me nervous, they aren't a big deal. Then we hit a house with two biggish mutts who had more of an attitude. They shimmied under the barbed wire fence and chased us. Hubs says they never got closer than four feet and were just chasing, but all I heard was snarling bellows right next to my heel. Having been bitten by a shepherd mix as a kid, I'm still terrified when big dogs do crap like this, but I managed to just keep peddling and not panic. Win for me. Now if I can just push through the huge anxiety attack that brought on, I'll be doing great. Yeesh. Hate these things. Today has started off nicely, though. Got up before 7:00, watered the garden with hubs before work, took a nice walk, and got a good picture of our morning glories climbing over the old satellite dish on the roof. It'll be hot later, but right now is cool and beautiful. I'm tempted to unplug and just go zen out in the garden with the birds.
  7. Ermahgerd, congrats Bats!! Surprise scale victories are the best. 8. Thanks, guys! Mini-update, don't have a lot of time due to deadlines looming. Let's just say this week has begun with lots of braining, which is always a good thing. That ride Saturday wiped me out, man. We rode to a little town south of here to have lunch at the Sonic because it wasn't supposed to hit 100 degrees that day. It totally did, though. About a mile before we got to town I was kinda hoping the sun would just explode and end my pain, but we made it! Had a great lunch, a divine orange slushy that I took home in my nifty bike bag thanks to hubs, and then we peddled our butts back home. A little storm cell had popped up as we were leaving, and that was the source of the wind. Said wind made it feel like we went 9.4 miles back uphill, but it did cool things off a bit. The best part is we're ahead of schedule to hit the 25-mile route by September 6. \o/ Otherwise, last week was decidedly lolworthy for my goal numbers. Got up early a few times (yay), hit the gym once, totally borked my deficit Saturday because starving, and am doing pretty well on water consumption. This week has started out way better both water and deficit wise, and we're 50/50 on getting up early. I've got a bit of a summer cold/bug thing going on, but it will hopefully shove off soon. Woo, Week 3!
  9. I heart you so much right now. We just finished an 18.8-mile route with 20-30 mph headwinds in both effing directions, and that picture is exactly how I felt. :-P
  10. 'Tis a silly place. I love that movie so much. Oh yeah, update! This week has been rather weird since birthday fun came to a close (cake was tasty, though). I felt like total ass for a couple of days and wasn't sure if I'd food poisoned myself or just caught a little bug, but it made me aware of a bigger problem. I am tired. Bone grinding, soul crushing tired. This is probably a holdover from surgery because it was only three months ago (time warp!) and they say it takes up to a year to fully recover, but damn. So much stuff I need to do, but I can't focus and all I want to do is sleep. It's intensely frustrating. >< That said, we've still been getting our workouts in. Did a short 9-mile ride on Wednesday night because I figured a shitty workout was better than no workout. Thanks to the horrendous headwind, it was a better workout than expected, just painful. Then we went to the gym last night. Tonight we're going to shoot for the 15-mile route despite the heat. Conquering that will feel good. Getting up early has been going better this week, so yay! My brain is starting to get used to it again. Diet has been a bit all over the place, but is coming back into line after the celebratory nomf-fest. Water is improving as well, had 96 ounces yesterday. Progress. Happy Friyay, guys! Hope everyone has a great weekend. :-)
  11. Creative license. I wasn't THAT weird as a kid. :-P
  12. Thank you, guys! It was a great weekend. And dangit, why didn't I think of a Godzilla cake?! That would be so boss. Maybe next year... :-D I did bake my birthday cake yesterday (chocolate with cream cheese frosting), but used Splenda in the batter instead of sugar. Considering having it for breakfast this morning since my birthday is actually today, but have no idea how it's going to taste. At least I know the frosting is good, even if the cake itself tastes like toad butts. Will report back later! As for the update, the weekend numbers weren't as awful as they could have been, and I did get up at 6:00 this morning! We ended up not going to the City yesterday in favor of making progress on some projects here, and that actually worked out better. We'll be going for a ride this evening, most likely, and then dinner out! Wooo! I'm technically supposed to work today. Sadly, I have zero interest in doing so.
  13. Thanks, Wolf! Glad to have you here. :-D Yesterday's numbers are a bit lolworthy because I went into blowout mode and it was mostly a rest day. Got some steps in taking a walk with hubs and helping him with a woodworking project, but was otherwise a slug. It was lovely. Deficit was +465 (lol not-a-deficit), water was up to 96 ounces (yay), and I got up at 8:20 this morning after going to bed at 10:00 and sleeping like a log. We have another walk planned today and I'll help him as needed, but will otherwise be stomping around doing laundry and tidying up the house. Sunday is always Domestic Goddess Day. The noms will be just as huge today because I acquired chilli-cheese fritos and a cake is probably going to happen. MWAHAHAHA! Am I too old to make an entire weekend out of my birthday? Maybe, but I say live a little. It's only a weekend. Big Bike Ride on tap for tomorrow! *\o/* *\o/* *\o/*
  14. LOL, hippy gatorade sounds horrendous. I like regular orange gatorade after a long bike ride, but will stay away from the hippy stuff. :-P Reminds me of that sugar-free cola made with Stevia that I got from Sunflower Market in Denver a couple of years ago. I'm fairly certain that stuff is what Drano tastes like. Morning update! We did indeed go to the gym last night and I did my full circuit with a couple of machines deloaded a little to keep from ticking off the back. It worked out very well. Between that and all of the walking around with hubs (hardware store adventures, wooooo) I had enough calories to eat more chocolate ice cream. So I did. Yesterday's deficit was 207, water was 96 ounces. I got up at 8:15 this morning because birthday weekend, and I'm needing a bit more sleep with this big increase in activity lately. We'll compensate by going to bed earlier from here on out. I am sleeping sooooo much better, so it's worth it. As for stretches, not really. I tend to stretch out my hamstrings after hulk sessions, but never do anything structured. Mentioned that to hubs and he suggested I get back to doing my Wii yoga, so I probably will. It was really relaxing and helped a lot with my natural lack of bendiness when I did it regularly. And now, we are off to do stuff. Yay birthday weekend! *\o/* *\o/* *\o/*
  15. If I didn't have a work call at 1:00, I'd be as happy as that piggy. The back's already getting better. It was just a muscle pull, not the spine-stabbing disc of doom acting up (fortunately). We will very likely gym tonight! \o/ Fruit seems a lot sweeter to me too now that I eat fewer sugary doom bits. I like a lot of things I didn't before (onions, peppers, other veggies), so this is progress. I'm closer to being able to deal with mushrooms, but still find asparagus disgusting. Baby steps. :-P
  16. Beautiful spoiler is beautiful. I <3 you guys.
  17. Seriously. He should have his own fan club. You're stomping this challenge, Jitters. Keep it up! *\o/* *\o/* *\o/*
  18. *snortle* I think you're right. That is some serious productitude you've busted out this week. Dang. And congrats on the coaching position! How freaking awesome is that?! You get MANY cheerbats. *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* *\o/*
  19. Working out is an excellent use of extra rage, good call. Nice work on the gauntlets, too! I love to watch people fabricate things, so it's very cool that you're putting something new like that into your challenge. You've also inspired me to find a good spot for my pullup bar, because negatives. /highfive
  20. I am in awe of your progress on pistol squats. You guys are so boss!
  21. Morning update! The weather did indeed hold up for a lovely bike ride, so we got another 12.9 miles in. And I was able to grind up the gnarliest hill in a higher gear, and hit a new speed average, so win! The weather has been seriously weird here this summer, not that anybody is complaining. This is the second week in a month where the high temps have been in the 80s. Fall is going to be glorious at this rate. I did hit one snag last night, though. As I went to dismount in the carport, my foot got caught on my seat because I hadn't leaned the bike over far enough and I kinda fell over. Fortunately I was next to an end table we're getting rid of, so I didn't fall far, but it tweaked my back pretty well. Hurts like a bitch this morning. I still want to hit the gym tonight, but am going to see how the day goes before making a decision. For the other goals, I did not get up as early this morning (6:50) because tired and hurty. Yesterday's water came to 80 ounces. Yesterday's deficit came to 188 because chocolate ice cream. I regret nothing. Oh! And because my birthday is Tuesday, hubs has declared this Birthday Weekend. I am going to make myself a chocolate cake and eat ALL THE THINGS. We're also going to go up to the City and ride around the lake a couple of times (10-mile loop) because it's pretty and fairly flat, so will be a good way to get a first distance ride in. Goooood times! *\o/* *\o/* *\o/* On a random note, has anyone ever had their tastebuds just change? Mine have since surgery. First it was Starburst minis, which I loved, suddenly tasting like Play-Doh dipped in fruit juice. Blech. Now my favorite chocolate raisins are gross, as are Hostess chocolate donuts. What the actual hell? If I keep going like this, all I'll have left are Dove bars, Cadbury caramel, and chocolate ice cream. That's probably a good thing, though. Way less stuff to test my willpower against. :-P Also, it's FRIYAY!!!
  22. Hugs delivered. <3 And now for the morning update. I've been holding steady at 80 ounces of water per day, which is the minimum allowed, so still need to work on that. Woke up at 6:00 this morning, finally slithered out of bed at 6:15 when hubs came in because I didn't want to move, but it still counts because I didn't go back to sleep. :-P Also had a 311-calorie deficit yesterday, so yay! Daily goal smashed! Plus last night was gym night thanks to the rain happening at 5:00 p.m. We took a romantic stroll under the umbrella (gym is only four blocks away) and I busted out a machine circuit, three sets of five on everything. I started at weights that made me work, but did back off from where I was previously and that seemed to balance well. AND! Hubs suggested I try back extensions, and I was like, "HELL YES I'll do back extensions!" Did three sets of ten on those and they felt amazing. It was the first time I've put any real pressure on my lower belly since surgery, so I wasn't sure what to expect. No problem at all! *\o/* Being able to do those without squashing my giant innards was freaking awesome. This morning I'm pleasantly sore other than wrists and lower abs, which are WTF-sore. Feels absolutely great. :-D We're scheduled for a ride tonight if the weather permits. If it doesn't, I'll just crank out some miles on the indoor bike. Happy Thorsday, guys!
  23. It made me cry too, but in a good way. ;-) I tell him all the time that he's perfect to me and no one else could possibly compare. We were best friends for years before we got together and I really think that foundation helped us through. Looking back at the way we've grown and changed together over the past 12 years is pretty dang awesome. I will give him hugs for you!
