  1. I think they are. Here are my goals: 1. 1 vegan diet day per week - SMART 2. 3 18oz glasses of water per day - SMART 3. Walk 30 min twice or more per week - SMART, although maybe I should stick with 2x/week instead of twice or more per week. 4. Get one skein of yarn finished and ready to sell online - Mostly SMART, but I guess I should be more specific about the skein?
  2. Thank you! I'm feeling better about things this time. Except...it's snowing today. As in there is already a foot of snow blocking the door. I did shovel this morning, so it's a bit of a workout, anyway. Hopefully it'll stop today so we can go play in the snow..
  3. Okay. Today is Feb. 2, 2016, and two days into the new challenge. If I keep getting up, maybe this time I will make it to the end. Today is also a snow day. I've been getting out and walking for 3-4 days a week. My goal is at least 2 days a week, because I had heard this storm was coming. I did shovel a patch for the dog this morning (6AM shoveling - whoo!), and if A can be talked into it, we'll play in the snow once it stops.
  4. I'm hoping to spin and dye a skein of yarn. We'll see what happens; eventually I'd like to make a rug. Not really, just a ceramic skull. A real skull would creep even me out!
  5. Back to the drawing board... I start off pretty strong, and wind up stopping halfway through a 6 week challenge. Maybe 4 weeks is more doable for me, we'll see how that goes. My goals are a bit more modest this time too. One vegan day/week, getting outside (to get strengthened up for hiking in the mountains this year) at least twice a week for 30 min., and putting out one skein to sell online. Just one. Here goes...
  6. Hi. I keep doing this over and over, hoping to finish this time. I will finish this time, though. Last month I stuck to a regular training schedule, and if I can do that, I can do this. So here are my goals: Diet 1. At least one day a week - breakfast, lunch and dinner - I will stick to a vegan diet. Not so easy when my family isn't interested, but I'll do this anyway. 2. Drink at least 3 "glasses" of water daily. "Glasses" = my trusty skull mug, which holds 18 oz of liquid. Exercise Walk outside for 30 min. at least twice a week. I have been doing more, but the weather is becoming less cooperative this week. I know I can get out at least two days. Life Goals To get one skein ready to put up to sell online. Just one.
  7. Hi! I'm 54. I haven't been here real often, but I'm going to change that this year.
  8. I'm in for this week! Just need to think about this before putting it down.
  9. I'm guessing that I was supposed to do a new battle log for each challenge. *sigh* Next time. This week, I only worked out twice. In my defense, there's been a lot going on. We've been preparing for 6 13-year-olds to invade our house for the kid's birthday party. Goodness, I'm glad that's over. But so far this week I've done the beginning strength training workout once. Getting ready to do that in a few minutes for today. I'm taking the challenge for week 3: tracking all my food intake for the week. I had been tracking it on my phone, but I've switched phones this past weekend and need to decide where I'm tracking meals. I guess here is as good as anyplace: it'll make me write every day on here if nothing else, so that's something. Today: Breakfast: 2 pieces whole wheat toast with .5 T each of tahini, 2 cups of coffee with stevia. Lunch: 1 insta-ramen with an egg Dinner: Not yet, but I think it'll be potato and soyrizo tacos. I've had 3 glasses of water today while studying; hoping to get some more in this afternoon. ETA: I did the beginner circuit today! The entire circuit, plus a warmup of hiking up and down the stairs 10 rounds. Other than my shortness of breath (yeah, I'm definitely feeling that damn cold now), I feel...not awful. Maybe on Thursday I'll try two circuits.
  10. Mostly getting back into it. I'm looking at it as a combination of physical therapy and mental therapy. I really do feel better mentally when I play; either flute or piano will do, but I've accepted that I need music of some kind in my life to be able to function. Just the act of playing flute forces my neck into a certain position. Frankly, it doesn't want to go there. So it's a workout for the muscles on both sides. So getting back to it is the challenge for now.
  11. I've been tracking what I eat for the past 2 weeks, so I can do this one. Last week was a bust; my kid had her 13th birthday party and now we're both sick. Not too sick for me to work out, but yeah.
  12. Yesterday's practice sucked. I think I made it for two minutes. Today, on the other hand, I fought my way through to 10. Today, the longer I practiced, the easier it was to get my neck into a decent playing position. It's still tiring - hell yeah, it's tiring - but ever so slightly better. I practiced piano before my student comes over this evening too, so that may have helped.
  13. I worked out some today - about 15 minutes. The good news - I did 45 jumping jacks, 15 lunges (each leg), 12 pushups and 15 sec. plank. The bad news - I only did 20 squats. I was hoping to do more. And I couldn't make my arms get through 10 dumbbell rows. There's always Thursday... I did plan out breakfast for today, and for the rest of the week. I have ingredients laid out for scotch oats tomorrow (and Thursday and Friday at least), so that and coffee is breakfast. I think I'll be having soup for the rest of the week, as it's supposed to be cold until Friday. Flute's a little different matter. I AM going to practice today, and I'm aiming for one more minute than yesterday. Lame, I know.
  14. Well. This weekend wasn't a total loss - but bad enough. I did work out and practice yesterday, so that"s something. I actually made a decision as to what we were having for breakfast Saturday, and I made a plan for today. We had dinner in on Thursday - the weather was uncooperative, and we live exactly in the middle of nowhere, so we got takeout from Little Bear's favorite restaurant. And I practiced flute! Yesterday and today. My neck is still shaking and not doing what I want it to do. But. But I was able to get 5 minutes in each day; after not having done this for a few weeks, that's not so bad. My tone sounds slightly better today too, which is good. The mini challenge in the Practice Room is doing basic exercises - which is both doable and exactly what I need.
  15. So. At the end of week 1: I exercised 3 times this week: Tuesday, Thursday and yesterday. That went okay. I had actual planned out meals for breakfast and lunch for...two days? Not so great, but I did plan my breakfast and lunch for today. So on to a new week. I even did a mini challenge! I joined The Practice Room in the hopes of getting my ass in gear with practicing. +1 wisdom for me. And I actually practiced flute twice! Once Friday and once yesterday. I just finished practicing for today. my neck doesn't hurt (yet), but I was having a hell of a time keeping it still. I'm hoping that between more strength training and practice time, that will calm down too.
