  1. I have the same issue. i was told that i have to make sure i work on my back too. i guess it's kind of like you said but your back is weaker. I was told to try adding in back extensions to my workout to strengthen my lower back. Also I've added a bridge and a few other yoga stretches before and after I workout. Seems like they are working because the pain has reduced some.
  2. Sounds good! Let's go ahead and give it a try. Yeah at least i'll be back in school during winter and will be able to use the track and a treadmill in the weight room. Oh and Dunkin Donuts is another thing i need to cut back on. Caffeine is my biggest weakness. I know what you mean about the food. I may have a small bowl of cheerios or fruit loops in the morning but the rest of the day i don't eat until dinner. Mostly because everything in the house is junk and i'm kind of a picky eater.
  3. Ah the donuts my grandmom brought home a big thing of mini donuts a few days ago and i completely lost that battle. But luckily I'm one of those people that doesn't gain weight easily. Which is actually kind of an issue at the moment. I enlisted into the Marines a few weeks ago and am only 5lbs away from being underweight. but i have until next June to get my weight up some. I have slacked off a bit since summer started but i'm still in good shape. I am on a Marine Corps JROTC pt team and have stuck with the mon, weds, fri workout schedule of pushups, pull ups, sit ups, and an ab attack. I've mixed in squats and standing bent over rows with gallons of water as my dumbbells. I would like to add in running on tues, thurs and maybe sat. I've also been looking at crossfit and this week i started following the Spartan race WOD as much as i can with the equipment i have. But skipped the running since i usually workout at night. But from running with JROTC during school i can run a mile in about 6-7 minutes. As long as i don't half ass it which i tend to do when i have no one keeping me in check. The sidewalks is another issue because I'm in the old wooded area of my town which everyone looks at as the middle of nowhere. The few areas that are mostly flat are full of dangerous turns which people fly through. what makes it worse is that since it's all old houses with no driveways or anything people park on the streets. This makes the old narrow roads more like one way streets. My grandmom and mom are both very cautious and overprotective so it's a challenge to just walk down the street to meet a friend. I have a messed up growth plate(supposedly I think my doctor has know clue what he's talking about) in my wrist from 5 or 6 yrs ago. It still gives me problems but i can push through the pain so it's not a big issue. Yeah that quote stuck with me. I heard an old teacher that worked out with the pt team say it.
  4. Hey I can do virtual kick. I am basically looking for the same thing. I'm living with my grandmom who gets a ton of free goodies from her job. It's hard to say no to free strawberry shortcakes, cookies, donuts, etc. So I totally know what you mean about your mother-in-laws stash. I'm pretty much just doing bodyweight exercises in my room with a pull up bar and homemade medicine ball. I am trying to get started with running but around my house it's all hills so I keep pushing it off for tomorrow. I could definitely use some motivation for that. What"s your current fitness level like?
  5. I'm on a pt team and one of the excercises we compete in is the standing long jump. Right now I can get 6'8" which is good but it's one thing I need to improve in. i've been doing things like bodyweight squats. They seem to e helping alittle. Are there any other excercises that I should try that will help improve explosive leg power? Perferably bodyweight excercises because I don't really have much access to a gym.
  6. This is kinda going to be 3 woots. First is the MCJROTC pt team im on went to the nationals for the Marine corps ypf competitions and both the female team and male team got 2nd. The second woot is i'm in the top 18 individual females for jrotc in the nation. Third is just that I flew for the first time because the national comp is held at the MC recruitig depot in San Diego. And yes it was amazing there. we got to stay on base and now I know where I am going to request to be stationed when I join.
  7. I finally signed (and convinced my mom to sign since i'm only 17) for the Marine corps. Head to Meps next week. Hopefully I'll be headed to bootcamp over the summer next year.
  8. I agree. When It comes to guys i'm friends with we usually flirt all the time. like I said about me relaxing in San Diego and coming out of my shell I definitly flirted more. Apparently i'm losing my threatening unapproachable look because I got plenty of smiles, hugs, and even a little peck onthe cheek (major confidence boost). Just relax, be yourself, have fun, and don't let it bother you when some people don't like you that's just meas you are one person closer to finding a great friend. Personally I rather have a few great friends than a bunch of ok friends that dont totally like me fof who i am.
  9. I know exactly what you mean. I'm the same way. All I can say is relax, go out with some friendsor just go out somewhere like an event that has to do with maybe fitness you like or some other hobby. There will be people you'll have something in common with and should be able to get simple coversation with. The past 6 days i've been in San Diego for a pt competition. I'm usually the quiet one on the team but I just relaxed and was myself. Iwent from being the person sitting by myself while everyone else was joking around to jumping across the bunk beds in the Marine corps barracks we stayed at. I actually enjoyed the trip and everyone made sure to let me know they want me to stay this way when wedo go home. I even made a few friends wifh people on the other teams.
  10. Thanks and yeah it's physical training. Next competition is next month 2 weekends in a row. Hopefully we can improve by then.
  11. Saturday was the first pt competition of the year. It went pretty well. Both our male and female team came in third. The teams we went against were the best in the nation. So this means we may have a chance to place at the national meet in May. Oh yeah and like I said I GOT MY FIRST MEDAL!!
  12. I've never actually heard of sennheiser. But they looked them up and they look pretty nice. I think i might go with a pair them or UE. It's so hard to decide which one!
  13. I've had a few pairs of them but found them uncomfortable. I think I'm just alittle too picky about some things.
  14. I need some good headphones for when i workout. You never see me without my headphones because music is my life and i'm not the most social person. So i'm looking for earbuds that have great sound and good for blocking out noise. I like to be able to zone out and not be distracted. I go through about 1 or 2 pairs a month so i need a pretty tough pair of headphones. I'm on a pt team and during practices and competitions my headphones always fall out. Bugs the hell out of me! I've had a pair a bose before but they only lasted me about 2 months. My parents have offered to buy me a nice pair under $200 for christmas. Any suggestions?
  15. Tonight I was promoted to a master sergeant at our MCJROTC Marine Corps birthday ball. plus last week we did our pft for our pt scores. Now i'm one of the top females on the pt team. Second best for pull ups, which I beat the pt team captian in, SO EXCITED. i got a 279 out of 500 which is good for a female. But it's only the beginning of the year so I have time to improve before competitions start in the spring.
  16. Congratulations! I know how you feel. I'm plan on joining the Marine Corps. This is my third year in the MCJROTC program at my high school. I joined the rotc pt team as a freshmen now i'm a junior. Last week we did the pft and I found out I am the top cadet on the female team. I was so stoked to find out I was even better then the captian of the female team. Good luck with the Air Force.
  17. I'm in! My first challenge.
  18. I've always been the black sheep of my family. Almost everyone in my family has or has had a problem alcohol or drugs. But I'm the one that they expect to be perfect. But I'm the the one to get an earfull for not being the perfect child like they expect. but when my cousin steals from me, my mom, and our grandmom because he needs money for drugs no one screams at him or expects him to pay it back. Sorry now I'm starting to vent. But since I was little I've learned it was easier to keep to myself and do things for myself. It's a lot easier than trying to get help from people that treat you like shit but expect help in return.
  19. I'm commited but not that commited. But I'll try the salt water and baby powder. See if either of them help. But if everything else fails I might get desperate and test out the pee.
  20. It's a long term issue. This is my third year with weight lifting/ pullups. It's mostly just from pullups. With weight lifting my hands don't tear to often.
  21. Every time i do pull ups my hands tear. I use chalk but it doesn't help. When i tape my hands i can go longer without them tearing. I'm on a rotc pt team and I wont be able to wrap my hands for competitions. I've stopped taping my hands unless I have a tear. So now I'mjust using chalk. Does anyone have any other tips to help. I know that my hands will get tougher but I've been doing the pt team for three years and my hands really haven't got any better. I would love any tips. Without tape i can't do as many pull ups and that really sucks during competitions.
  22. Today at jrotc I got 53 push ups in under 2 minutes. My goal was to at least be able to get 50 by the time pt practice started again but i have no problem getting an extra 3. I'm also very excited that the pt team is getting started again. This year my goal is to make it to the finals in San Diego for the MCJROTC Pt team. Its only the beginning of year and I'm already at 53 push ups, 65-75 sit ups, and around 15-20 pull ups. So if I keep going like this and improving I'm probably going to make it to San Diego.
  23. Congratulation thats awesome! You look great! keep it up.
