  1. So I've been trying to plan out responses for the kids in case if I actually get a tutoring job. Specifically, about my weight and the diet I'm on. You see, it seems that my most likely client at the moment would have her daughter coming over to my house to do her homework for several hours rather than the other way around. So my "pupil" would be witness to some of my private life, including my eating habits. Now, imagine you're a child or a teenager and you see your tutor cooking a pan of grilled chicken (which has been one of my staple foods along with peanut butter sandwiches). You're going
  2. I'm back! Sort of. I've decided that the last time I tried this I burned myself out (and got way too intimidated by the whole "eat protein, make muscle, strong person, ROAR" thing that I was seeing). So this little hobbit is going to take it slow. First things first, I'm bending to the whole "protein diet" thing. Emphasis on "bending". I'm not cutting carbs or sugars completely. Instead, I'm going to try to maximize the amount of protein I eat and the number of times a day I eat so that I don't end up eating anything en masse. I'm also hoping that this round I'm going to have more support from
  3. So, I did not end up buying a bike today. I think I have one picked out (a green Jamis Citizen 1, if you know about this sort of thing), but I want to go back one more time to test it out and make sure it wasn't my exhausted state talking. I tried four other bikes before I got to the Citizen (the bike shop let me do a circuit around the shop to test them out, which included a slope so I could test it uphill and downhill). These four bikes included a Jamis Taxi, which is a one speed bike. I tried pedaling a single speed bike up a hill. And it was the fourth bike I'd tried. By the end
  4. Going to go get a bike today! I'm looking for a comfort bike rather than a mountain bike or a road bike--mainly because I don't see myself mountain biking or competing in bike races. The main goal here is to get some exercise and PRETEND THAT I AM RIDING MY FAITHFUL STEED. Umm, *cough* yeah... I pretend bikes are horses. It's so much more fun to pretend you're Galadriel and you're riding Asfaloth away from Nazguls than going "I'm biking. On a trail.... Whee?"
  5. Well, sorry for not writing in awhile. My dog died this last Friday and I've had little time to grieve or to write. The production of the play I'm stage managing is picking up as well. (Perfect timing, eh?) But enough excuses. I've done fairly well with my dieting. I've only missed the mark on two days (counting today, which I've purposefully taken off since it's my birthday). The exercising isn't going as well (unless you count stage managing as exercise which, frankly, it should). I haven't tried any more archery either, but, since I'm off work for the next few days, I'll probably try my han
  6. I know. It's so intense for something that's painted as so tranquil. Also, you might be pleased to discover, I gave myself the hobbit name of "Azaelia Took" for the walk to Mordor (and general roleplaying purposes). Clearly, you and I have similar tastes Also... No one's supposed to know about the hobbit take-over for another year yet.
  7. Right. Still having trouble with the eating thing. I just can't seem to find anything I'm hungry for. Nonetheless, I have stuck to my points range (albeit the lowest possible number) for the past two days. And today was my first day trying archery for this challenge. I'd backed up ten yards from my usual starting position, so I suppose I should have expected it to be rough. But, out of about 25 rounds with 3 arrows, here are the stats: White: 5 Black: 1 Blue: 2 Red: 1 Gold: 0 And here's a picture of a target so you have some idea of what I'm talking about. There actually isn't a
  8. Not necessarily. Healthy second breakfasts can actually be good for you. As can Elevensies. And second dinners. It all depends on the "how much" and the "what" (unless you're doing the fasting route in which case, yeah, second breakfasts are definitely out).
  9. Right so this week's confidence task is: Flirting. I am horrible at flirting. When I try to flirt with anyone, I've been told, it looks like I'm just angry at them or afraid. And when I'm trying to get someone to go away, it apparently looks like I'm flirting. So, I'm going to try to change that. Wish me luck.
  10. Right. So after the hike yesterday, I realized something. I may have been a bit overambitious with 50 miles. That is 50 miles of non-work related, free time walking. I do plenty of walking and running for work. Herding actors does that to people. Hell, I parkoured my way to the top of a brick fence yesterday to get good cell reception to call an actress who was running late. And every day I move at least 2 dining room sized tables--luckily one of them has wheels--and at least 6 chairs from one room to the other and back. There's not really a good way to quantify all that work (Feel fr
  11. So, to recap, new second goal: Walk 30 miles over the course of the challenge (about 7% of the way to Rivendell)

  13. 1.5 miles. I walked 1.5 miles today. 1.3 of them were hiking. Through rough terrain.
  14. Walked 1.5 miles... in hill country... ahhhh

  15. Hello, Victoria! Such a beautiful name. First of all... **Hobbit high five** I've been trying to for more hobbit brethren (and sistren) on this site. People seem to underestimate how hearty we are at times. The smaller more specific things are probably going to make a world of difference in completing this challenge (though this is my first time doing a challenge too so I would take any advice I have with a grain of salt). I wish you good luck on your adventure!
