  1. I got a late start, too. Those are some intense goals but I'm sure you can do it! I especially like your last one. Having an artistic, creative goal is really important, I think.
  2. Anything Whovian deserves support. Good luck!
  3. Wasn't able to post this yesterday, so figured a day late is better than nothing. Weight and measurements are recorded. Tracking everything like that in Evernote (I'm a junkie) and tracking exercise routines on Fitocracy (linked in sig). Not doing the role play part of it, just wanted some accountability and to get myself started down the road of just being healthier. So, my goals are: 1. Cut out soda completely Right now I'll drink one or two cans of Mountain Dew a day or have a 20oz bottle of Coke at work from the vending machine. Just cutting these out will have a pretty good impact on my caloric total. 2. Drinking (other than a glass of wine with dinner, that sort of thing) down to once a week (but only if social) Another pretty big impact on caloric total. I'm a beer snob, and some of those big craft IPAs can pack a pretty big whollop, calorie-wise. 3. Do 15 pull ups Right now I can do three consecutive pull ups, five total before failing. I used to be able to do them one-handed but... time and fast food have gotten in the way. 4. Finish a stats textbook and the incomplete class. Just leftover stuff from my coursework for my Ph.D. Good time to finish those up. I've got a lot going on in May that'd work as excuses to fail at this challenge. An extra (unlisted) goal for this is to not let that happen. Let's do this!
  4. Hoping a benefit of the 6 week challenge is to fight off afternoon drowsiness. Zzz.

    1. Bones

      Bones

Just embrace it...naps are good for you!

    2. Ba'sini'on

      Ba'sini'on

Though in my case, they are a bad habit!

  5. Started a six-week challenge last year but (ahem) life got in the way. So, I've decided that I'm doing a one-month paleo challenge during July (at least!) and will be trying to throw in cardio and bodyweight exercises. I'm focusing on diet for a few weeks so I don't feel bogged down and get discouraged. I know that if I look at my schedule for the next day and think, "ugh, I have to work out, cook breakfast, fix dinner, go for a run, etc, etc" that I'll just crash on the couch and scarf a bag of Doritos. Will pick a class later when I get into a routine and decide what I'm most likely to actually keep up with. I'm just trying to be realistic this time. I know I won't be perfect, but this time that isn't the goal.
  6. Yes, yes, yes. I'll always support someone furthering education. The true sign of the nerd! Oh, and good luck with the diet, too.
  7. Did 30 minutes on the elliptical today at 10/6 and 6/10, with a 6/11 push at the end. Came home and pan grilled a New York strip steak. Good day.
  8. Ended up doing sixty minutes at 5/8 (finished up with a two-minute push at 5/12). Didn't do anything on Saturday since I went extra-long on Friday; don't want to over-do it. Hitting the gym tonight for another 30-45 minute session. Cheated on the diet once over the weekend. Bad dalek, bad.
  9. Ouch! Sorry to hear that! Sounds like you'd need to focus on keeping your diet in check, since your energy expenditure will be plummeting, considering. Could you maybe take up swimming (it's summer, after all), using some stroke that's entirely or far-and-away majority upper body? Butterfly, maybe? (I can't swim; grasping at straws, here.) Good luck!
  10. Went 10/5 and 5/10 (last two minutes at 10/8) on Wednesday. Pushing ahead nicely. Doing a normal routine tomorrow after work and going to try to do a marathon-ish one hour or more.. Need to get my dumbbells back. It's complicated. :|
  11. Thanks for the warm welcome. Hopefully as the next six (or 12) weeks goes on, I'll have more opportunities to get to know everybody. Gotta love a community of nerds!
  12. Muscled through a pretty nasty craving for some McDonalds or Burger King this evening. Vacuumed and did a few things around the house after work and -- POOF -- suddenly it's 7 o'clock. "Crap," I think. "It's too late to start cooking now." Yeah, an excuse. Because in the 15 or 20 minutes it would take for me to go get Burger King and bring it back, I could've made a healthy, balanced dinner. (I'm not going paleo this time around, so carbs are still a staple of my diet: rice, pasta, bread, etc.) I heated up some veggie stew and had it with some whole grain crackers. Not a Rachel Ray 30 Minuter or anything, but it did the trick. Saved some money and a ton of calories. (My BK order is typically a Whooper Jr., a Spicy Chick-n-Crisp, medium fry and a medium Coke Icee. I know, I know, I know. Haven't had that in ... gosh, 90 days or more.) Gym after work tomorrow. Did go down a belt hole today, but can't attribute that to the start of the challenge, as I really started it last week. Also, might be a tad psychological, in that I'm likely willing to put up with something a bit tighter as proof it's working. Either way.
  13. Nono, not like that. Hack in the Lifehacker sense! Been an avid reader of the site for some time but never spoke out (read: lurked). Decided it was as good a time as any to start a 6 week challenge and truly become part of the community. I'm a doctoral student and work full time in pseudo-IT (people build software, I break it, basically). I always made the excuse of not having enough time to get in shape, but that's a pathetic excuse to be lazy and rationalize away my lack of self-discipline. Nice to meet ya. Er, I mean, EXTERMINATE EXTERMINATE EXTERMINATE.
