  1. Mate, having 5 workouts per week over this time is no failure.. So what if you didn't run that often; you will still find that you gained a little fitness because of all the time your heart rate was elevated doing strength-work.. Give yourself a break for a few days before doing a pushup test.. If you going through DOMS or your muscles are just fatigued, there's no way you can push yourself to the numbers you are trying to achieve..
  2. So I took a bad fall on the cricket field yesterday afternoon and dislocated my left shoulder.. Doctors tell me that my arm will be in a sling for the next 6 weeks, which doesn't leave much room for weights and running.. When I can, I'll try to spend some time on an exercise bike, but I think it's game over for this six week challenge I'll be back soon!!
  3. Hi Jake, Re the motivation to run, the best thing you can do for yourself is to have all you gear out and waiting for you when you get home from work.. That way, you come home, change, and head back out straight away before you've had the chance to lose motivation looking around for the stuff.. I find that the second my butt hits the couch (especially after a 90 minute transit home from work), that's me done for the night! Re pushups, you'll need to give yourself a good 48 hours rest to let your chest recover from gym work before you can really test yourself.. If you can do 25 continuous while you're sore, you'll smash it when you're rested!! PS - I'm liking the progress bars.. I'll be using that one for my next challenge for sure Tim
  4. Yeah.. A few months back, poor form cost me a back strain and two weeks on the sidelines.. It's good for the pride to keep increasing the weights, but terrible for longevity!
  5. Nto this week.. I want to stick to one per week to stop shin spints from flaring up again..
  6. So I was supposed to hit the gym again today for a weights session, but work is shouting me to see an advance screening of Runner Runner... That kinda makes it an aerobic workout, right? Right????
  7. Yeah good plan!! I hear that while they're a great test of aerobic fitness, they're pretty bad for your body because of all the stop/ starts.. I try to get one in a few times a year to see where I'm at, but they sure as heck knock me around
  8. Bleep test? Is that the twenty metre back and forth thingo that gets faster with time? Down under we call it a "shuttle run" or a "beep test" Hardcore if you're doing that a few times per session!!
  9. I hope you gave that 1.3 lb a nice send off, never to be seen again!! Nice one
  10. Not yet.. I seem to keep waking in the middle of the night and struggling to get back to sleep.. You know, when you start thinking about work stuff, relationship stuff, money stuff, life stuff, pet stuff.. Just a whole lot of stuff really!
  11. Goal update: Heavy weights and abs session today.. That six-pack trying to force it's way through is the best feeling ever!!
  12. Ha! I get shin splints if I go too hard, so I know that feeling.. Looking forward to hearing the stats
  13. Hills are great training for increasing your time.. You'll notice that when you do fun runs, or find somewhere else to run that's a little flatter, you'll be able to power on a lot longer because you're getting the benefit of extra strengthening in your legs I use the nike+ app and get my split times to come through each half kilometre. When I started out, I noticed that my split times were pretty quick, but I was fading away towards the end without even knowing it. But by getting the split times, I guess it made me more conscious of slowing down and would force me to just power through to keep my speed up.. Seriously, I went without for one 5k run and without a computer feeding me the info, I added nearly two minutes!
  14. That's a really great goal to have.. I'm trying to build myself up to a half marathon.. Breaking into 6 minute k's was one of the hardest fitness challenges I had, then after that I guess all the fitness work I was doing turned into habit and the split time just kept decreasing! Look forward to hearing your about your progress
  15. Hi! Loving the back story and the life quest to move on with your life.. Funny how easy it seems to just have one home cooked meal per day, but when all the other things in a day-to-day life get in the way, how difficult it is to actually follow through with it!
  16. Depending on your work, take a bag of mixed nuts and chow down on them? I think I read someone else here cut up things like carrots into french-fry size pieces.. Would that work?
  17. Hi! You're right about finding a flavor you like.. It's a mission! I've done a bit of shopping around and managed to find one I really like, so it's no longer an ordeal to stomach it.. And being that it's chocolate flavored, I get to feel like I'm having "healthy chocolate " I probably over analyse how much and when I need to take it.. I think at the end of the day, if you can feel that your muscles are so or tired, it's just their way of letting you know they're craving the nutrients?? Goal update: - 5km run Saturday morning.. Hooray!!
  18. Nice work in the rain run.. I think there's something peaceful and tranquil about being saturated and still moving forward like it's no big deal.. Love the dedication!
