    Week 3

You've escaped the cannibals and made it to your ship.  Since this island did not work out well for you, you're in search of another beautiful Caribbean island on which to enjoy your newly acquired rum in peace.  Suddenly you begin to feel unexpected turbulence in the water, and a giant tentacle springs from the surface and slams down close enough to your ship to rock it nearly on it's side.  You are able to right the ship, but this is just the beginning.  The owner of the tentacle rises up, and you have a Kraken to deal with! Use your upper body strength to steer the ship around this giant beast and keep it from capsizing! To do so, add an extra upper body set to your workouts this week (anything from rows, presses, push ups, pull ups, etc count.  Scaling for your ability level is encouraged).

This week is definitely going better than the first. I'm getting in some good workouts, work kind of lightened up a bit towards the end of the week, and I am noticing improvements in my flexibility from focusing on stretching every day AND for the first time in my life that I've ever tried running I feel like it's not the most awful thing in the word more or less. Still only getting a little less than a mile in a straight run before I have to walk again, but I don't feel so defeated with it as I have in the past attempts at "getting into" running. Still really missing dance, the solo choreo classes online aren't filling the hole but it is making it a bit more bearable. Plus I get to say hi to all my friends from dance on zoom a few times a week when we stay on for a minute after class which is really great.  I've also been doing random chin ups as I walk through my doorway on my pull up bar and have been really feeling those improve as well.  Also 3 D&D live sessions over roll20 this week (DMed on Thursday, played my Tabaxi Bard today, and will be DMing tomorrow). All around good stuff :)

Only bad stuff is me eating kind of like garbage but I'll try to figure that out next week, for now I'm OK with it. I've also got to slice out some time to make my rounds here - I've been severely slacking there and I'm sorry guys ❤️ Hope you are all doing well.

    Week 2 Challenge Progress:

    Stretch (ROMWOD) Every Day: 6/6

    Workout Every Day: 6/6

Wednesday - Stronglifts, 4.11 mile walk

Thursday - Ab workout, Online Samba Class

    Heeey here you are!

Leave it to our Raxie to get more busy when we're all hanging out at home!   That's skillz girl!    Like the old NF Mantra, do what you can with what you've got.   We here at NF have been training for this for years.   Whether we're on the intro or extro side of the scale, we know the formula.    And we'll get through this!!

Also, late to the thread party, because I get like VIP access to you elsewhere.  *waggle*

Haha yeah it's weird, it's like everyone is reaching out so much for virtual socialization I'm actually talking to people *more* than I was before. Nutso.

    ok.this is a tough one...

I'm not going to "fourth" the tai chi; cause it just looks so darn complicated!

I've had some martial arts many years ago and I've nearly forgotten it all... its way unfamiliar.  and Taichi is wierd stuff, even if you were relatively educated doing kwon -do at one point...

so What am I going to do!?

    ---

I had an idea that works. (I hope)

    '---

the script is that Jack is being chased by cannibals and he needs to fend a few off then run like mad, right!?

    ok

lets take this Very literally, then!!

do  some punches and maybe some kicks and then run/sprint like my life was on the line.  that's a darn intense workout; but its also a "Parkour" workout.  ofc I have to run "slowly" enough to not trip over the forest obstacles, but I can go pretty fast if the distance is short.  and moreover- I get occasional urges to Parkour in the woods.

Anyways, I think I'd have an easier time doing THAT then

squinting at some Ipad- trying to copy unfamiliar jabs or cross punches or whatever....

    ok?

I promise to make it very dexterous running through the woods dodging fallen trees, etc.  the plan is to do this Monday morning.

This is totally legit! Go for it :)

I don't really understand how this has happened, but I am somehow more busy than usual now, mostly because I'm working such late hours. My job has totally exploded with everyone scrambling to reschedule all their projects and getting questions about how we are going to execute from higher ups constantly. Ugh. But I've been hanging in there with my 5 D&D games on roll20/discord (we've officially converted the two in-person games to online for now), zoom meetings, online dance classes, and trying to go for runs. Tomorrow and Sunday I'm DMing but two games, and then Saturday I'm playing in another game. Always constantly ticking away at the PbP DMed by D_R as well which is a consistent source of good vibes for me. I also had a really nice zoom chat with some dance friends on Monday which was so nice. I'm missing all of them so much! My challenge goals weren't totally met last week but here's my rundown:

    Week 1 Challenge Summary: 78%

    Stretch (ROMWOD) Every Day: 5/7

    Workout Every Day: 6/7

    Monday - Stronglifts

Tuesday - Ran 1 mile, walked 1.5 miles, Ab workout

    Wednesday - Stronglifts

    Thursday - Online Dance Class

Friday - Ran 1 mile, walked 1.5 miles

    Saturday - Online Dance Class

    Sunday - Fail :(

    Week 2 Challenge Progress:

    Stretch (ROMWOD) Every Day: 3/3

    Workout Every Day: 3/3

    Monday - Stronglifts

Tuesday - Ran 1 mile, walked 1.5 miles, Ab workout & Online Dance Class

I've been doing so many zooms I've actually been socializing possibly more than I was before oddly enough. It's not the same though, I really thrive on the energy of other people, and hugs in particular. But it's getting better as I get used to it.

    Week 2

After successfully fighting the never-ending onslaught of skeletons and counting all your new gold, you make your way to the beautiful Isla de Pelegostos to relax and enjoy the pristine beaches in solitude. As you begin to relax with some of your newly purchased very expensive rum from Tortuga, you are overtaken by cannibals! You left your weapons on the boat, so you'll have to fight them off hand to hand! This week, add a dexterity based fighting move to your workout (ie a quick online workout of kickboxing, tai chi, sit up punches, warrior yoga sequence, etc).  You have until the end of the day Tuesday.

Second week is up! I gave you a little extra time to complete it since I am late in posting it (sorry all!! Somehow I've been busier during this quarantining that usual XD). Let us all know how you plan to fight the tribe of cannibals!

  10. Hiya!

Like most of us I have been stuck inside for the last 3 weeks, and it was just announced at my job that I'll be teleworking until at least April 30 now, and my dance studio and gym will likely be following suit in being closed for that amount of time as well.  If you've followed me before you know... I am EXTREMELY active.  My schedules is typically jam packed with dance, workouts, volunteering, work, and social things. I'm literally rarely home except to sleep and eat.  So this is exceedingly difficult for me. Raxie + staying home is like oil and water and I'm trying to not totally lose my sh*t.

I'm trying to be thankful that I am healthy and that I can work from home and that I am not laid off like so many other people, but I'm feeling like an under-watered house plant just slowly shriveling up. I never realized what an extrovert I am and how much I thrive on other people's energy and hugs and activity but here I am. The unlike things in the title are me and staying inside XD. I honestly don't have the energy to put together more of a challenge, my motivation is kind of lackluster, but the challenge WILL be Carnival Row themed because hot DAMN that show is good! Like seriously, go watch it.

My goals will be simple so that I can actually make myself do them:

    1) Stretch every day

    2) Work out every day - literally anything.

And that's it. Time to brace myself for this being the new normal and let's get to it!

    Greetings Captain Raxie! *salutes*

Dealing with Costochondritis here so anything requiring rapid breathing hurts. May I have an acceptable substitute?

Absolutely! Anything that feels endurance-y to you is fine! It can be mental endurance too - maybe an extra long meditation session? Or even stretching endurance like yin yoga which has you hold stretches for long times (like 5+ minutes). Or if anything physical is off the table and you'd like to count treasure and do some financial rangering instead in terms of working on a budget or doing a no spend week that would be totally fine as well. :)

This week we set sail in search of treasure from the safety of Port Royal and make our way to Isla de Muerta!  But beware... cursed skeletons of past treasure seekers haunt these caves! They are undying and require constant fighting, dodging, and running to escape before you snatch the treasure and get out.  This requires endurance - so add an endurance workout (ie HIIT, Tabita, sprints, EMOM, etc) to your week this week in order to successfully snatch this treasure! You have until the end of the day Sunday.

Ahoy matey's! Are you ready to set sail for some adventure? Pirates are basically Rangers of the high seas, so it seems it should be an easy transition.

This challenge we'll be traveling around the world, possibly getting into some trouble, and defending the seas against any threats.  Each week we'll be going to a different classic Pirate location and face whatever challenges we find there.

You are all about to graduate from TARDIS Flight School, and I would like you each to take turns in flying your fellow rangers to anywhere in time and space that you desire (please let's keep it within our universe, and don't try to go to a place that's timelocked - you're all still too newb for that). Once you are there, let's do what the Doctor does best - help people and be kind.

Random Act of Kindness. This week I would like you to do one random act of kindness.  You can plan it, or you can wait until a sporadic moment presents itself, but either way go spread kindness and post about it here. And also, just for fun if you want, tell us where and when in all of time and space you would go if you had a TARDIS :)

Week five is up! Get some RAKs in and tell us about it here.

  16. Oooh water color pencils!! I have messed around with those a few times in my colouring and I love them, but they can seriously be tricky beasts.  I tend to stick with them just for backgrounds and such.

Also I totally feel you on the not wanting to do stretches/exercises with other people (who don't live there) in the house.  I always end up skipping when we have company or doing awkward stretches in my bed before sleeping haha.

Goodness what a crazy past week it's been... and it just continues to get crazier.  I am SO PUMPED for the gala this weekend but I also kind of cannot wait for it to be over haha. So I definitely owe an update on my goals because I did not do this last week.

    1. Read 4 books: I've been done with this one for a while.  I might even get to 5 if I have some time to read next week.
    2. Use my bullet journal daily: I've been tracking every day. I have definitely not acheived 100% but the point of this was to track and keep myself accountable so. that's a win so far.
    3. Stretch daily: As it will show on my tracker, I've definitely slacked on this a bit. But I've been consistent in terms of maintaining momentum on it even if I haven't done it every day.
    4. Research races in my area for the year: Done! And also officially signed up for a Spartan Stadion and committed to doing a Color Run later this year.
    5. Sign up for boxing lessons: This actually might end up not happening, because my friend I'm doing the Spartan with wants to sign up for these obstacle course/parkour training classes which would be WAY TOO MUCH TO DO in addition to boxing.  So I think I might push this to either the next challenge or the one after??? I might be able to do both once the gala is over but for right now I can't even think about it.
    6. Be Reasonable: This week's schedule is below!

The most reasonable schedule of all time

    Spoiler

    Monday

    • Guest dance coaching session
    • Private Dance Lesson
    • Lift

    Tuesday

    • Modern Dance Class
    • Latin Jazz Dance Class
    • Samba Technique Class

    Wednesday

    • Cha Cha Technique Class
    • Lift
    • Gala working meeting to finish up last minute stuff

    Thursday

    • All the HRC work - so much to do this day for finalizing the silent auction!

Friday (took today off from work because I'm so reasonable)

    • Lift
    • Physically setting up the silent auction stuff and running around the city picking up various donations
    • Gala pre-party at night (YAY can't wait for this one)

    Saturday

    • THE GALA AHHHHHHH

    Sunday

    • Smooth performance team rehearsal
    • Viennese waltz technique class

Rehashing the last week -  UGH I had such a freaking amazing last few days.  The comp was ... so great.  Like I haven't felt that amazing in I can't even remember how long, I still feel like I'm coming down from the high. I danced the best I've ever danced, beat some people, and for some stuff I was actually not competing against anyone but I still felt like I put my absolute best dance foot forward and was SO PROUD of what I put on the floor I can't even describe it.  The other comps I've done I've always felt a little upset about mistakes I've made or the energy I brought but this time I just gave it absolutely everything I possibly could and I don't think with my level of skill, training, and technique (which is not extremely high but still) I could have possibly done any better. And we did our Singing in the Rain dance for the last time, and we did it the absolute best we've ever done it.  We did lose our show dance competition (which was the Singing in the Rain dance) to another dance that I frankly thought was not at all that great - the first and second place winners were AMAZING and absolutely deserved to be there (I was literally screaming my head off at the dance that placed first with an All That Jazz number and I would have flipped tables if they didn't win first) but I really felt like I should have been third.  I think it was because their costumes were more elaborate than ours.  Blargh. But honestly it's OK, someone came up to us after the dance and said it absolutely made their day and made them so happy to see so that's really winning in my book

My absolute favourite picture from the comp is this:

    gBycj58E-fsmiUJ0S033pFmrFwCADO9Qk4hefqSO

And here's our cha cha, this was when we did best of the best which means because I beat people in my division all of the division finalists competed against each other so we got to pick our best dance (out of cha cha, samba and jive) and do that one alone on the floor.  We lost best of the best, but the winner was 100% better than me so I'm cool with it.  But it's still the best I've ever done this routine in my life:

And under the cut is the rest of our dances because they're fun but no pressure if you don't want to watch them haha. I'm particularly proud of the paso since I only just started learning both the routine and the dance as a whole technique-wise a few months back.

    Spoiler

There's 3 parts to singing in the rain so you'll have to scroll through if you want to see the whole thing.

My guest coaching session went SO WELL too.  I was kind of amazed... he watched me dance for like 2.5 seconds and was like "oh OK so you used to do ballet then?"(I had not told him this) and then proceeded to describe all the exact issues I've been having with so many things without him even having seen me do them??? I swear my rumba walks improved like 110% in the first half hour.

ANYWAY taking a semi-chill pill on dance for the rest of the week while I finish out all the HRC stuff and gear up for the gala this weekend! I think I've finally decided on a dress.

Also, lifting has been going well :)

    Sorry... that was really long.

TL;DR - comp was 438209578045382584% amazingly awesome. onto the gala! also might have to scooch the boxing goal to a later challenge.

Thanks, I'm still really struggling with it to be honest - I know everyone in charges knows it's a weird year for a myriad of reasons and doesn't blame me at all but I still feel kinda bummed about it.  But still pushing through to get some last minute stuff and trying to focus on what I DID do.

Thank you :) :) It really really did. Probably one of the top 5 days of my entire life.  More updates to come.

Hope the competition went well, and the Gala was a good time that raised LOTS of money!!!  (still waiting for swanky outfit pictures and dance video...lol)

Thanksss!!! The comp went AMAZING, the Gala isn't until this weekend (thank goodness - my head probably would have exploded if they were the same weekend haha). Swanky pictures will be provided!

COLD STONE PROTEIN POWDER WHAT WHERE

(also hello and you're doing amazing)

(cc: @loire) The Berry Berry Good Flavour is my favourite so far but I still haven't tried a couple of them... but the ones I have tried (which in addition to the Berry one are Mint Mint Chocolate Chocolate Chip and Germanchökolätekäke) are all also SLAMMIN'.  But... for real the berry one is next level.

(also hi! and thank you <3)
