  1. My tailbone has said no the last couple of days. :( I can barely walk, especially after working all day. I've been active at work, led 1 or 2 hikes every day, but that's all I am managing. Ready for my appointment.
It's almost a good thing that it has flared up badly; the doctor may be able to see it at its worst.

I have almost finished weaving a new basket, though. I can lay on my stomach and weave. :)

  2. I tell people that I'm training for my black belt or a particular race. Or that It will make me happy to lose weight, even if they don't think I should, because it's about what I want, not what they think.

I understand though. I get kind of annoyed about people telling me "Oh you're not fat."  The people that I want to explain it to I tell them it's not a pity play, I'm not being mean to myself, I just know that it is a medical fact that I am overweight and I want to be healthier.  People that it makes no special difference, I'm just, "whe whatever" :)

  3. So awesome!!!

BrandyO: you are awarded 2,387 Guild Leader Points of Awesome (GLPoA) for posting the first adventure complete with a pic! <3

I'm counting that as participating in the mini challenge! You're totally allowed to do that as Level 1! :D

That hike sounds peaceful! (And looks cold!) I LOVE heights! It must be awesome to live near such a view!

Thanks for sharing your awesome! :D

P.s. I LOVE red onions. I put them in everything. <3

    Woooo!! 2,387 GLPoA!

You love heights? Cool! I live on the highest point in the state. I did a guided walk to the highpoint this morning. :)

And Yay! I did my first Monk-Mini Quest!

  4. I went on an adventure. Kinda.

I went for a hike, but it was in the park I live in. I walked our fireline.

Brandy #7, again, Q, I'm thankful for Quiet.

I basically get paid to talk. People ask me hundreds of questions a day, I give guided hikes and programs, and help manage 2 different facilities.

When i get quiet time, I value it.

I think quietness can help people grow.

*I'm not really doing the mini quest cause I'm still a lvl 1 rebel newbie; I just like showing off my park. ;) *

  5. I tried to post pictures, but it said I wasn't allowed that picture extension on this community.

    This Jack.

One of my coworker friends passed away a year and a half ago. Since I was apparently the only person who knew he had a bearded dragon, I wound up adopting him.

    This is Diane.

Diane was a classroom pet. She was acquired via a grant by someone who didn't know what they were getting into. So, she joined Jack this summer.

    This is Boudreaux.

Boudreaux has been my partner for around 8.5 years. I'm not sure how old he was when I got him, but he was around a year old. On occasion, through the years he couldn't live with me, mostly when I lived i the dorm at college. But he's been with me the whole time I've been at this park, so 6 years. We like mountain life! :)

So that's the crew! It's just the 4 of us, chillin'.

  6. Still #7,

    O-

    Onions!

I love onions. And not because they're like ogres and have layers, but because they add tons of flavor with little effort & no calories.

Mmm.. I'm going to go make some onion& rosemary french bread now.

  7. Rows - put your feet on a chair or step-ladder?

Pull-up progressions - do negatives, dead hangs, assisted pull-ups.

I can't do negatives yet, that's why I want to start with bodyweight rows.

I didn't think of using a chair or such to bring the floor to my feet. That may work! I'll have to measure though, I'm pretty short. lol

    Thanks!

  8. Looks pretty versatile, not expensive. Win.

I like the iron gym bar, though.

For that much set up, I would just build my own out of 3/4 inch galv nipple pipe and some scrap 2x4 or 2x6..

For that reason, I like the iron gym product better than this one.

Do either of you know of a way to use the iron gym bar to do body weight rows or any pullup progression exercises?

  9. So, today. Today was a grown up, responsible day. I was off of work (it's my Saturday this week!)

First off, I woke up before 8 on my day off. That's a huge accomplishment for me.

I finished cleaning my living room.

I cemented my appointment for a new doctor, with work & the doctor, completing my life quest! My appointment is Dec. 3rd at 11:30. I already have all my MRI, Bone scan, PT, and X-ray information together in a folder. I am thinking of writing a timeline starting with when I first started having problems, 3 years ago.

I renewed my driver's license a whole month early!

I returned some overdue (by 6 months!) library books.

I made a plan for the next couple of weeks, since I'll be on the road teaching Wilderness First Aid and driving to the doctor. (he's 4.5 hours away, and I think it'll be worth it)

I finished a slotted base bread basket.

I did a basics work out for taekwondo. I did 10 minutes of yoga.

I think I did okay on my pushups, I did 3 sets of 5 kneeling pushups. Before 2 sets, I did 1 full push up and before the middle set, I did 2 full push ups, but I don't think I went far enough down on most of the full push ups. It hurts quite a bit to go very far down. I've been watching videos on push up progressions and I'm not even sure I'm doing the kneeling ones correctly. :(

I feel like today was a successful day!

    Week 3: The Library

So your challenge for this week has 3 parts:

    1. Pinpoint the quest in your journey that is giving you the most uphill (or one that you're struggling to achieve)

    2. Search through NF (forums or articles) to find one that is able to offer some assistance

    3. Apply it to your challenge (no collecting underpants here).

For completing this challenge, you will get a stat point as per the quest you have identified (I will let you know which stat point you get in this thread) to be allocated at the end of the challenge.

    1. Actually doing it. It sounds lame, but true. I'm barely meeting the requirements I set for myself, and I'm smooshing them all in at the last minute and half-assing them. I keep failing to actually plan anything, and continue to fly by the seat of my pants. I have been having a weird, flip flopping work schedule.

    2.  I opened my underpants cache, and put together a set of basics to make my routine for that portion of the quest. I took the bodyweight workout and the basics workout and wrote them down. Then I searched "inspiration" and wound reading a few different articles including this one and this one.

    3. I made a schedule for this next 2 weeks of when to work out. Planning and writing it down will help me wedge it in the times I need to instead of slacking off.

    G!

I'm thankful for GAMES! Board games, card games, video games, run around barefoot outside games! The more players, the better. :)

You can unwind, laugh, and have loads of fun.

Anyone want to come over & play Scattergories? :)

  12. Goal 3) Food part 2: No junky snacks. I have relapsed again into snacking at convenience stores. Not even,"I'm peckish, I need a snack.", but "It's 4 o'clock. I eat candy bars at 4 o'clock. Oh look, candy bars are 2 for the price of 1. Let's eat 2 candy bars." And seriously, I'm not going to live to be old if I keep treating my body this way.

I hate that grocery stores have all the candy & soda right there at the checkout. I wish they had apples & cheese. At least they have jerky sometimes.

    Good luck with your goals.

I think its cool that you get bloodwork before & after.I mean, the call back from the Doctor sucks, but it's neat statistically.

*edit* Apparently this old? It's the thread that your signature linked to. :) Sorry.

  13. I saw your posts over in the Monks guild and noticed you are in Arkansas. I'm in SW Missouri. I love the Arkansas outdoors. I've done quite a bit of camping, floating and fishing in NW Arkansas.

I'm in (kinda) northern Arkansas. I went to HaHa Tonka State Park in MO, in June. It was neat.

Where do you like to go in NWA? I go to Devil's Den quite a bit and I love Hobbs.

  14. I decided to check out Lumosity, since you seem to think so highly of it. I wound up getting a family plan account for my sister, my mother, and myself.

Brain training aside, the games are fun. Plus, all the females on my mother's side seem to develop dementia early in life. So maybe this will give me a few years extra. :)

I think I will try out the translation, but maybe advance a little further in my practice first. I tried one sentence, and I think I got it, but I'm unsure about the etiquette and rules for translating, so I was really leery.

You're doing well on your goals! I think you should give the splits a rest for a day. Recover a little. When I was training and working up to the splits I always seemed to make more significant progress after a couple days rest, especially if I had been doing it daily. It's also possible I just underestimated myself from the previous workout. :) Hope you are having a great weekend.

  15. Tonight I did 2 sets of 5 pushups. In each set, the first push up was a full pushup and the other 4 were kneeling, so yay! Progress.

I dug out my macro guidelines and workout plan for the weightloss class I did on Fitocracy.  I'm going to start using the diet guidelines again to work on my goal of losing 6 lbs.

I have inspection in a couple weeks for my house/work, so I have been cleaning like crazy. I want to get it clean enough on my work days that I don't have to clean on my off my days, any more than normal. I have gotten quite a bit clean this weekend. It's energizing.

  16.

That said, I challenge you this week to post yours, and if you don't have one yet, come up with one and post it.

As for me, mine goes something like this:

    10 reverse punches

    10 banded uchikomi

    10 banded pull-aparts

CC-Trifecta every other day (bridge, L-sit, and twist progressions)

    Drink 1-3 cups of water.

    Rise and shine, rebels!

What's a pull apart? I asked Google, but all my results were bread. (Yes, I bake entirely too much.)

  17. I accomplished a lot on my days off, (wove 4 baskets, studied German & Spanish, and a bunch of other stuff) but I didn't focus and get my main things done.:(

Today is my Monday, and its a whole new week. Today at work was promising, despite the weather, and I think work will be good.  So this week, I'm going to do better on my challenge.

My mom is visiting this weekend. We'll likely do my bodyweight workout together. She always cleans while I'm at work, so at least my house will be nice & shiny. Between that & a good work week, I have no reason to not get with it!

Hope the new doctor works out *crossed fingers*

    Did the pushups happen?

The pushups did not happen. I bought a new bookshelf/lizard tank stand. When I got home at 9:30 p.m., I geeked out & started assembling it. When I was done around 1 a.m., I realized I hadn't showered & I work early today. In other words, I completely forgot to do them.

And if I'm completely honest with myself, even though I did do basics before lunch, I didn't do as many as I should have.

Thanks for the crossed fingers. I've decided to stay optimistic. :)

  18. If you manage to bowhunt duck, you are a badass. :D

But seriously, I'm a little envious. I've barely ever bow, much less hunted with one.

I have killed exactly 2 squirrels with my bow. I would need cheaper arrows before I'd try a duck!

Oh! Or a set up like for bowfishing! That could fun! 'Scuse me while I go ruminate on a new sport..

  19. They are actually melt and pour!! ;) I used a goats milk base in a silicone loaf, added fragrance and color, and cut it with a big flat blade slicer. Fairly quick and convenient, and still was great quality! :D

(The pink is cranberry chutney, the white is lavender, and the brown is mocha with coffee bits!)

I do M&P too! I love it, because you can do it in short bursts. Like spend 30 minutes one evening after dinner or you can do it all day one day.

I've not done loaves before, I usually do molds. I've found lots of fun silicone molds. Though they were intended for ice or baking. Lol

Lately, the favorites have been skull& crossbones soap. :-) do you have anymore photos of your soap online?
