  1. Thanks for putting that song in my head. One of my favorites.
  2. Remember Gauntlet and "Valkyrie…is about to die!" ? That would be me. I might not need to respawn just yet, but only because I'm hanging on by a finger nail. Things that happened after I attempted to join the rebellion: My father died. My mother attempted suicide. My house was vandalized. I got a MRSA infection that required hospitalization. My bathroom floor disintegrated, requiring a 4 month construction project to fix. Despite this I still make it to the gym at least 2 times a week. My Sunday long runs are sacred, but my lifting is haphazard. Most weeks I get in 1 or 2 total body lif

    Before a Run?

I'm a runner and I'm switching to a Paleo/Primal diet. (Haven't decided if I can give up my greek yogurt for breakfast yet.) Normally before a run I have either 6 ounces of Mexican Coca-cola (sweetened with cane sugar not HFCS) or Hot Cocoa (1 cup milk, 2 tbsps sugar, 2tbsps cocoa). Other than that I run on an empty stomach (2 hours after eating lunch or first thing in the morning 12 hours after dinner). What's a good Paleo/Primal pre-run food? I assume the first week or two of lower carb eating my runs are just gonna suck. I'm prepared for that, but don't want them to suck for the rest of m
  4. I'd like to get back into weight training.... The last time I trained (2 years ago) I had a personal trainer who set me up with a plan. Once a week we worked out together, and I did the same exercise twice more each week on my own. The situation was super motivating and I saw big gains. I also knew I wasn't going to hurt myself with bad form, etc. Sadly, my trainer left and I haven't found a new one. I'm trying to find a goal that will help motivate me. I know in my running life, signing up for a race gets me out the door. What would the weight equivalent be? I was thinking of 'bench press
  5. The couch to 5K program and Consistency (capital C intentional) was what helped me. I'd run for years, but never made a point of running three days a week without fail for months at a time. So what days of the week do you run vs. strength train? I'm seeing 6 or 7 days a week, does than mean no rest day?
  6. Question: If you run 4 days a week, what days do you run? If you lift, how do you fit that in with your running? Some background: I've been a runner for 10 years, but I always 'Gallow-walked' - running for 2 or 3 minutes and then walking for a minute. I finished 2 half-marathons that way but felt like I wasn't a 'real' runner. This January I made it my goal to be able to run a mile without stopping. Now I can do that. I've been consistenly running 3 times a week all year. If I'm eating right and having a good day I can run 45 minutes without stopping. On bad days I can still do 10 minute
  7. Up early and thinking about diabetes. Usually I'd be out running right now but I'm getting over a cold, so I'm giving it another day. Sigh. I hate being sick.
