  1. I'm just curious and wondering if any of you have a blog? I have a small blog Kentucky Walking Sticks - Kentucky Walking Canes , but I haven't got many followers. Just curious.
  2. Do you ever wonder who else is out there in the woods with you while you are hiking?
  3. Winter is here and the snow is falling. I love this time of year. Saw on the news cast today all the city people running for cover from the snow and wind. I guess in this weather we will not hear to much about global warming, the news caster always save that for the good old hot days of July and August. Get yourself a good walking cane or walking stick and go out and enjoy the winter weather.
  4. What is your favorite season of the year for hiking? I know fall or winter is the best for me. Don't get me wrong I love spring and summer, the heat isn't the pproblem. It's all those dam bugs. If it isn't ticks and chiggers, it's deer flys. Chasing me, bitting me, getting in my face. The hat helps, but the drive me crazy.
  5. Look out the cat has chased a snake up the tree. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJCRkiFbyrk&feature=em-upload_owner#action=share Hope you find this kinda funny. The cat is a little freaky.
  6. I hope you find this video as funny as my wife did. My daughter was the star. http://youtu.be/W6KcAg8YFC4
  7. Added three more colors to the carved snake and applied three coats of polyurethane. The stick really has a smooth finish. Colors look unique and were inspired by the painted horses along the streets of Lexington, KY. The horses are all painted several different unique colors. If my photo skils were just a little bit better, I think you would be pleased with the end result.
  8. I've just painted the first layer of paint on the snake I'm carving on the walking stick. The paint was golden rod yellow, but has taken on a green cast. I have several more layers of paint to apply. Let me know what you think.
  9. Currently, working on a walking stick with a snake carved on the stick. I have the snake cut out and I am in the process of cutting the scales into the snake. Thought I would post a picture of the progress. Had thought to paint the snake like a copperhead, which is common to the Red River Gorge, but I plan to paint the snake orange with yellow highlights. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. Sorry, but I couldn't attach file.
  10. Found this deer antler last spring while out hiking. I always look for antlers in the spring after the deer have shed them in the winter. You've got to be really fast before the critters find them and chew.
  11. Sticks I Cut While In The Woods Thought I would post some pictures of "blank" curled sticks I have in storage. Let me know what you think. I will say it took a really long time to find, cut, and pack that many sticks out of the woods. The sticks snag on every tree limb of vine in the woods. I love to just get outside in the winter and walk in the woods. Do you ever see any sticks like this while hiking?
  12. Bears In Eastern Kentucky I read in the news paper about the warning concerning bears and campers food in the Red River Gorge. I spent quite a bit of time hiking this past summer ans never really saw any bear sign. Have any of you guys noticed any bear tracks? Makes me kinda nervous to think about a bear in the same woods where I am. I'm not really as much in fear of the bears as I am stray dogs.
  13. Daughter wanted to go rock climbing this summer, so we went. An area for rock climbing near Natural Bridge Park has a cable strung around the face of the clift. Daughter bugged out at 10'. Wife bugged out at 15'. I made it most of the way around clift. Now we can say been there, didn't do a lot, but won't do it again.
  14. I took this picture sometime back. The cabin was under construction and I knew I had to snap a picture because it was so cool. The first step can be a pain in the butt.
  15. Hiking in eastern Kentucky during the fall season is the best time of the year. No deer flys, ticks, or humity to take the fun away for the hike. We have our own hiking trails on the family farm. I love to take pictures of the wildlife I encounter while walking. I took this picture of a land turtle last summer.
