  1. Agreed. The only other thing I've considered is looking into one of those super cheap overseas assistants that Tim Ferriss has made popular. Pay someone a few hours per day to promote and build a brand. No idea how much they cost though. I think at one point I read $6/hr, which is still a pretty hefty cost. Boneless Thursday ftw. The only better day is BOGO traditional Tuesday.
  2. Thank you for that sir. And good call on shopping it around. I sold about 200 copies the first month and it steadily fell off from there. After the first year I've averaged like 2 sales per month. Would be better if I could put more time into promotion and marketing but the payoff just isn't there as far as time invested. Current goal is to finish another novella, polish them both up and possibly combine them and shop to agents or publishing companies. If there is ever any hope in actually doing it full time I need other people working full time promoting.
  3. That is one of the sweetest things I've ever read my friend. Keep up the good human-ing.
  4. So preliminary thoughts on possible 2020 goals for each category, from which I would extrapolate individual challenge goals: Mental: Forget about my weight somehow. I've obsessed over the scale for over 7 years now. It is a great motivator for me until I have a bad couple days and gain 10+lbs in water weight. Then I want to jump off a cliff. I want to try to really move away from it and focus on just being able to do the things I want to be able to do physically. Perhaps I will either allow very seldom weight checks or just have the wife hide the scale altogether. Probably something with writing as well. I've not been able to write really at all since starting my new job in September of 2018. I'd really like to finish my second story and publish it. Strength: Purely hitting milestones via Stronglifts. I was getting a bit down about starting at the bar then I mapped out how much progress I'd make this year if I stick to at least 2 workouts per week. Turns out I'd be repping well over my old PRs by the middle of summer. Setbacks happen so I realize that may not happen but it was encouraging. I'll likely just pick a number for each. Maybe goal will just be to get back to PR level by end of year? Cardio: When I started my weight loss journey in 2012 it was with the old NF beginners workout guide and Couch 2 5K and even ran a 5k in 2013. I really enjoyed running for awhile there but I got away from it. I'm going to do my best to get the wife to try C25K with me and try to run a race or two this year. She is adamantly against running. I've only seen her do it when it was included in WODs while we were in our crossfit/strongman days. Spiritual: This one I pretty much have figured. I'm in the middle of joining the Catholic Church and decided a couple weeks ago to read the bible a chapter per day. If I can keep that up and finish the conversion process I will be pretty happy with my spiritual progress.
  5. *Homer drool* I think the key might be to not cut the roll until after baking. Still sounds delicious either way.
  6. Bro. We are in the same place on several different levels. Let us rock it back to where we were. Congrats on the progress on the book thus far. 150k words is tall order. I've found I have a hard time putting together a story that stretches past 75k. Partially due to my inability to focus on something for more than 5 minutes and partially because my writing consists of "We saw monster. It was a bad monster. I shot monster. Boom!" I've tried diving into more detail on things and it ends up being me describing a landscape for a page and a half. Are you planning on trying to shop your final manuscript to agents/publishers or just going to go the self-publish route?
  7. Greetings friends. Long time no see to most of you. I think things have aligned in life to the point where I can attempt a challenge again. I stepped in front of a barbell and deadlifted for the first time in a very long time. It's been a couple years since I've lifted any kind of meaningful weight due to a couple herniated discs and subsequent steroid injections and rehab and my body reflects that. I am far from the person who was pulling trucks and throwing atlas stones around a few years ago. But an inversion table has set me on the right track and I'm ready to ease back into it. Stronglifts 5x5 starting at the bar for everything but deads and rows, which are 95lbs and 65lbs respectively. Pacing myself is going to be one of my biggest challenges. This mini challenge is perfect for setting some goals for next year. So my goal is to set goals. Shooting for goals in the following areas: Strength Cardio Spiritual and/or mental growth Going to try to set one specific attainable goal per week so I can have a good gameplan going into 2020. I'll also be tracking workouts here to try to keep myself honest. Thanks for reading, glad to have you along for the ride.
  8. Life happened. Sister had an emergency C-section end of last week and baby was immediately taken to a NICU in a different hospital an hour away. It was sketch for a bit but both have gotten better and mother and baby were reunited but we spent all day Saturday driving up to Rockford and back and forth to McHenry and back. Food was a mess and I haven't tracked since and I'm up to 404lbs. Back on track today. Just want to get through New year's under 400.
  9. I'm feeling this too. It's funny, I always take being outdoors for granted until we have like 6hrs of daylight per day and it is gross out for two weeks straight. Keep going, we're only a couple weeks until the days start getting longer again.
  10. It didn't. He ended up barfing all over my kid's bed. Saturday: 3261 Cal Sunday: 3218 cal Yesterday: 3066 cal It's very interesting to just track rather than try to hit a goal. It seems as though my natural "full without stuffed" is between 3000 and 3300 per day. Thing is, my BMR is supposedly around 3500. So am I eating so much junk/drinking so many beers on the weekend that it is completely negating the fact that I'm under BMR most days? Stay tuned to find out I guess. I'm going to keep this goal-less tracking up for the whole month then see where we are at. Probably need a dexa scan or something to get a good handle on my actual daily burn.
  11. Fully tracked on Thursday and Friday: Thursday: 2006 calories. Friday:... 4984 calories. Hosted D&D last night and we ordered Giordano's Chicago style pizza. I had 5 slices and 6 beers. No regrets. I'm running Tyranny of Dragons for the first time. Not sure how I feel about it so far. It seems like it encourages either railroading everyone into fighting an adult dragon or you have to have a full on plan B for the PCs if they say "fuck all that". Also my dog ate 7 slices of pizza because we were careless in putting it up. That's about 5lbs of cheese for Giordano's. We are officially on poop watch.
  12. Man those are a bitch. There's an epic sledding hill here that goes over 45* angle for a bit and at one point I was running it just 10 times and my heart rate would over 180. Need to get back to that when it is a bit warmer here. Excited to follow along with you this month bud.
  13. This is one of the reasons my current marriage is so much more healthy than my first. My wife always notices when I'm down and forces me to explain it so she can reassure me everything will be alright. I'm glad you're feeling better bud. Only 3 weeks till the sun literally starts shining longer every day. Worst part of the year, keep on trudging and it will get better.
  14. Well that's about the worst thing I've ever heard. These places are so worried about paying out claims that they'd rather worry everyone in a geographic area. Gah. Hope you feel better soon Puck.
  15. Well damn. Now you've all got me wanting to finish BSG as well. I think I got 2 or 3 seasons in before I got distracted by something or other.
  16. Exactly what I needed to start my day right.
  17. Fully tracked yesterday. 2519 cals and it felt good to stay in top of it. Just as I thought, the mere act of tracking helped me turn down some sugary goodness that I would have normally eaten. Baby steps.
  18. Thanks! Yeah I've found that the little steps tend to actually "take" more often than major changes.
  19. Book 2 in the Paladins world is 17k words in but honestly I haven't been able to touch it in a year due to school and the new job. Hopefully that'll change soon. And YES! I can't wait for The Mandalorian. I'm a big fan of Favreau and was super bummed to see the Fett movie got cancelled so I'm excited to see what he puts out.
  20. Thanks all. I really needed some nerd companionship. At my old job we had an entire nerd herd and enough downtime to have nerdly discussions daily. My new job is all old white dudes who work their asses off every day and don't have time to enjoy anything, let alone be nerds. I'm glad to be back on the forums and get that interaction back.
  21. Greetings buddy. Good to see you still at it.
  22. Hey Puck, hope you didn't get hit too hard by the snow this week. My sister up in McHenry was hunkered down pretty good. Following so I can catch up when I get a spare minute.
  23. Wolfie! Following so I can catch up when I get a spare minute. Good to see you still at it my friend.
