This is completely unrelated but still relevant. You have an awesome tattoo.

Haha, thanks!! I love my tattoo :D

  2. I'm sure there's a bunch of different technical reasons that other people can weigh in on. But in my personal experience, sometimes something can seem like it doesn't give you any grief directly, but once you exclude it you can notice different responses that you didn't spot before. Like a symptom that you didn't realize you were actually having, or didn't associate with the actual cause. For example, it took me years to discover that I was lactose intolerant. My symptoms didn't appear to be directly related (not the "usual" symptoms) and it wasn't until I excluded it that I saw a change and then went in to get tested.
  3. Web Developer, artist, and Pokemon dork here Oh man, if my skills can help then you can definitely count me in. I haven't tried my hand at app development yet, but it has been solidly on my to-do list recently.
  4. Agreed with what the others are saying, it's normal to have a period of adjustment while your body gets used to it. Especially depending on what your previous diet was. Since paleo teaches your body to burn fat instead of sugar as it's primary resource, your body can still be looking for sugar to fill that void, and it can stress a bit until it gives in and adjusts, as far as I know. I had a pretty nasty "carb flu" when starting out, but it eased up as time went on. Lots of water, lots of rest. Plus make sure to include healthy fat with every meal! My brother in law actually eats a spoon of coconut oil straight up when he's feeling an energy crash. I couldn't do it myself, but it works for him. And don't worry about the cereal, it definitely helps to stick to it as much as possible, but unless you're aiming for a full detox like the "Whole 30 challenge" or anything along those lines, a slip up or "cheat" isn't going to break your system. As for the dairy, there are tons of mixed reviews on it. Personally I try to avoid it, but I am lactose intolerant anyways. Paleo strives for no dairy (or restricted sources, like butter as Clawed Bear mentioned) but a lot of people follow more of the Primal route if dairy doesn't seem to be causing them issues. Listen to your body and do what feels best and makes you happiest!
  5. That's almost painful! But at least we finally know. Anyone else going to reread any of the books while waiting? I'm going through the whole series again, which is incredibly refreshing since some of the early books I haven't read in many years. I'm up to Dead Beat now. SUE!!!
  6. Ooh, looks like we're slowly building up Vancouver Island ranks then. If we can wrangle up some more, we could start our own meets!
  7. Sadly I'll be tapped out until next challenge. It started strong, but I've been sick for over two weeks, and it has transitioned into a bad case of bronchitis now. Technically I could say I'm eating within my goals still, but that's because of a sheer lack of appetite and living off homemade chicken vegetable soup, lol. But the new year will be a great time to jump back in, hopefully with a stronger immune system! I hope you all are doing well, good luck on the final week!
  8. Mandatory cookie decorating party at work. Bring on the WILLPOWER!

  9. So sorry to hear about your aunt Zabella. Hopefully the move and everything goes smoothly for you. That's a lot to have on your plate right now! Looks like we've all been under stress lately. Go figure that things would hit all around a week into the challenge! But, C'est la vie. I suppose that just makes having this team that much more valuable. We can hopefully encourage and inspire each other even when things get tough, whether it's challenge related or not. You guys are awesome, and the fact that we're still here despite the chaos is a good sign. Come on AVALANCHE, let's destroy this challenge (We need a uniform, so we can all pose like the badass mercenaries we are!)
  10. Just a heads up, I'll be pretty quiet over the weekend. Currently off to visit family on a small hippy island here. Have a great weekend all! Stay healthy, stay happy
  11. Aww yeah! We totally are, I can't wait to see where everyone is at after 6 weeks! As for breakfast veggies, do you like spinach or kale? They're awesome with eggs, and spinach can be good in a smoothie too if you're into those. Also if you have bacon in your breakfast, almost any veggie sauteed in bacon fat tastes amazing. Bacon flavoured brussel sprouts? Don't mind if I do! This week has been going alright for me for the most part. Done a couple of workouts, and sticking to paleo 100%, although I've had some pretty bad lingering headaches that I'm trying to sort out. I think I've narrowed it down to lack of sodium though. So now I'm adding sea salt to my food, I've seen a few tips online that have suggested trying that. Anyone else had any weird diet adjustment quirks or anything?
  12. Awesome job so far Mitch! And your gluten-free food recaps are giving me some excellent meal ideas
  13. Welcome! And good luck on your challenge, I look forward to following your adventure Also, fiddles are awesome!
  14. Nived, Running is a tempting mistress. Sometimes you want nothing to do with her, but other times that siren call is too exhilarating to pass up. Oh the runner's high! Also, awesome idea posting before pics! It'll be a great way to see how much you progress Haha, it's day two Sammy, I don't think anyone would judge you for not having kicked the soda habit yet But your drive is inspiring! Day two is wrapping up here for me. It's been pretty good so far. No workout, but tons of stretching, walking, and did pretty well maintaining strict paleo today. Even turned down treats from a coworker. Something that has never been easy for me. Good night Mercs! See you on Day 3.
  15. Kudos on the quick thinking and last minute change of your breakfast! I always find that one of the hardest things, when you're out and about, it's so easy to just go for old habits. And that bisque sounds awesome! I gotta remember to try using cashews more as a cream alternative. So good!
  16. Your challenge is making me want to read the books again. Yay for Hogwarts! Awesome goals, very creative! Good luck
  17. Welcome! I can definitely relate to your struggles, both as someone who has been a sucker for opting out of healthy endeavors too soon, and also cheese! I'm lactose intolerant as well, and the calling of cheese can be a big one. But, you've made an awesome step by signing up here and partaking in the challenge. Hopefully it will be the motivation you need to stick with it. Remember, just 6 weeks is all it takes to build a healthy habit, and anytime you find it difficult, you can post here for support, encouragement, and questions! Good luck, I look forward to following your progress
  18. Welcome back! It's a shame your last attempt was cut short, but life is good at getting in the way like that. Hopefully things will be much smoother for you this time around! Your goals look great, a good balance of things to get you moving. And yay for more paleo converters! I switched over about 2 1/2 weeks ago, and while I've had some rough bumps getting started, it has been entirely worth it (down 7lbs already!). I hope it works out for you too I look forward to following your progress!
  19. It's been a long first day, and we're pooped! Good night rebellion!
  20. Kudos on a good day! I'm not much of a weight lifter, so I'm always in awe to see what people can do. Looks like you're making a good solid start
  21. So much respect for the fact that you're aiming to get where you want to be Before getting pregnant! That's a fantastic mentality, and shows that you'll be a great mom one day! Ooh, and that poster idea is excellent! I may have to try something like that.
  22. Awesome first day Sammy! You hit the ground running, great start
  23. Cool, my Skype is the same as my username here. Feel free to add me! I spend a lot of time on Skype (we use it at work) so I can chat often. Yay accountability!
  24. Wow, everyone is so far away! I'm PST, on the west coast of Canada. I vote skype, but I'll join in whatever works
  25. Are you into paleo friendly baked goods? For example banana muffins made with almond flour. You could try something like that, easy to carry, hearty, and very picnic-y feeling
