    Syren's Guardians

I miss swimming regularly. Looks like you are doing great Syren.
  2. Yes, Emily is also a "swim, bike, mom". We have two trainers, a treadmill, and a heavy bag set up in the spare bedroom. I really shouldn't call it the spare bedroom with all that gear in there honestly, but that is what we call it. We can talk distances and time for training, but I have learned to not talk about pace. We are too far apart there for that to be a happy conversation.
  3. My eating has hit bottom, you are looking like a rock star compared to me there. Just too much stress and too busy a schedule makes convenient food too easy to grab. I am trying to do more cooking in advance, it is just dedication and effort. I have no problem sticking to workouts, it is everything else. Keep up the good work.
  4. Monday was a rest day. Tuesday I missed Master's swim (haven't been sleeping well and 5AM is painful), still ran 4 miles over lunch. Made a pretty good pace too. Then while the older boy was at soccer practice and the younger was with mom at scouts I swam 2000yds non-stop to see where I am at for 1/2 Iron Distance. Right around 34 minutes without my wet suit. I am OK with that. Two more weeks before I am out door swimming with the wetsuit and only a couple weeks after that before race time.
  5. Thanks for checking in. No, I did a full week last week. I missed one swim workout, but real life was a crusher with so much going on. Cubscouts and soccer for the kids (I lead and coach), mortgage paperwork, work stress, blah. Still worked out a full load. Did 11 miles running Saturday morning before soccer practice and then cub scout bridging ceremony. Watched Avengers 2 Friday night with the kids. Sunday was on the trainer again due to the weather for 2:50. I discovered that since I moved my bike trainer over, the treadmill interferes with my bike computer making tracking my mileage and time difficult (if it is running, as it was on Sunday).
  6. So yeah, Saturday was hectic. Got up at six and ran out the 10miles I had planned. Only one rest break and that was to get a rock out of my shoe. Sharp little sucker. Then it was family stuff running around for the rest of the day. Sunday was windy and there were thunderstorms bouncing around. Spent the morning tearing up the garden in preparation for planting. Swinging that pick for an hour did a number on my shoulders (blisterd the crap out of my hands too). After 2-2.5 hours of that I ended up sitting on the trainer again for a couple of hours, I am calling it 45 miles, though my computer said it was 50. The resistance was pretty light. Monday was a rest day. I am trying to make that a thing, I just need a day off in there. THis weekend wiped me out. Got up at five to go to the pool. Pretty solid workout, 3000+ yards with lots of freestyle. My shoulders are telling me what they think of that after this weekend.
  7. Touch of Polish... like sausage? or maybe pirogi? I know I would hire someone who could make good pirogi!
  8. May the fourth be with you. Getting sick under a vigorous workout cycle sucks. You want to go, and it takes twice the motivation to move and you constantly wonder if you are healthy enough to get back out there or if you are just going cause a slide back into sickness. Been there (alot). Take care of yourself and then come back strong.
  9. Over lunch yesterday I did a 3.5 mi fartlek. It was gorgeous weather out. This morning I got up at five and jumped on the trainer. Had it set pretty high, I was only putting out ~15mph. I am treating it as a hill workout. It is too dark (and cold) to ride outside yet. I went in to work, and lo and behold... I forgot my computer at home. Makes things rough when you have a day of lit research to do. So I drove home and said , I am either working from home today or taking a personal day, I had driven enough already. Four patents to read, hopefully I can stay awake. Another gorgeous day, makes me wish I planned this better as I would love to do a lunch ride instead of having done the trainer, but I have a 10 mile run tomorrow and I should save something in the legs.
  10. So Tuesday, I did 4 miles running over lunch. Pretty solid pace too, so I feel good about that. 12.5 on the bike yesterday over lunch. My cleat let go of my pedal though, so I almost dumped my bike when I couldn't get my shoe off the pedal. Took my foot out of the shoe instead. Irritating, it might be new bike shoe day soon. This morning got up and swam, the coach is big on ladder sets for free style currently, and then crushed us with 600yds of alternated 25's fly and breast. that was pretty rough. Total yardage was 2800. My eating has been flat out bad, I have so much going on right now the stress is wearing me to a nub. Work problems, buying a house (Dealing with mortgage people), keeping up with the kids activities. It all piles on and makes everything harder. All I can do is keep my head up and just keep going though, right?
  11. People who don't experience anxiety don't understand that voice that haunts you when you are alone. It is a real bitch. Stay strong and remember tomorrow is another day.
  12. My body gave me a big FU yesterday. It was a rest day, I just had to pull up. That happens, I need to realize that it isn't slacking, but necessary. This morning was a good swimming day. I was chasing the ladies in the next lane over (faster lane), and I might have killed my lane mates with them trying to keep up. I should feel worse about that, but I don't. Over lunch I am running to get the miles in that I didn't get yesterday. I gotta keep it up or Suelk is going to pass me on daily mile... I should be able to write tonight while the boy is having soccer practice and I collect cubscout camp fees. Multitasking is the only way this happens. I don't know when dinner is though yet.
  13. Uh, HA!? Time, there never is enough time. Do what you can, when you can. Then do a little more. When you figure where the line between bend and break is, let me know, I keep crossing it.

There is no shame in being unable to do breast stroke, or at least that is what I tell myself...
  15. So it was long weekend again. 9mi run yesterday before driving off to play D&D for the day (including the drive, it was all day). This worked around the house, then the long ride after lunch. The ride was OK, into the wind the whole way out, so at least it made the trip back fast.
  16. Went for a bike ride. Rain cut it short It was a resting ride, mostly to spin out my legs, but none-the-less cut short. I need a quiet day anyway to try and recover some. On to the weekend!
  17. Just so long as you don't call them coodles, or zoodles when using zucchini. Ever try using something called "hoo-hah glide"? My wife swears by it, provided I am understanding where you are sore correctly.
  18. Thanks Suelk, I didn't do the fartlek. I opted for hill repeats. 1 mi warm up, 1.5 miles of up and down the same hill, then a mile cool down. Actually managed to get yoga in last night, which was desperately needed.
  19. You're doing great. Keep it up.
  20. It isn't a bad idea, it is good training. It is a tough run though. Good job.
  21. last night it was cold and windy, so biking was restricted to the trainer. Did spin ups where I would hold a steady pace for 5-6 min and then shift to a higher gear and increase cadence for 1min. Did that for 45 minutes. This morning was Master's swim, with a ton of IM, ugh. 3000yds all said and done. I really need to do yoga tonight, but between soccer practices and cubscout planning meetings, I don't know if it is going to happen... Oh, I am planning a 3.5mi fartlek over lunch as well. Busy day.
  22. Thanks Suelk Yesterday I didn't run over lunch, just too cold and wet and windy. I went to the allergist and got some new meds to help me breathe too. Here is to hoping. Got home and jumped onto the treadmill for 4 miles. This morning, made it to Master's swim 3100 yds. Lots of pacing work with 4X100's slow then fast, no break and another 4X100 descending (each 100 is faster than the last). Throw in a bunch of butterfly and breast stroke work and my shoulders are telling me what they thought about that!
  23. A marathon, on a treadmill... you might need therapy. You're awesome, but so is Harlequinn, and you're both insane.

What is the "backstroke rotation drill"? I am not familiar with that one.
