  1. Last night was Squat: 255 5*5 Overhead Press: 100 5*5 Then I did a shrug workout with my buddy, 100 reps of the heaviest dumbbells you think you can handle. Sucked, but I'm surprisingly not sore today.
  2. So, last night went pretty well. Squats: 250 5*5 Bench: 150 5*5 Deadlift:275 5*5 I then did bench 95lbs 5*10 for the extra work to improve my bench. Struggled on the squat, but I got it up. Time for a couple days off, and then back at it Monday. Thank god this isn't last deployment. I never would have had the time to recover. To many dismounted patrols.
  3. Oh, also I am 22, 5'9", 183lbs. Currently run a 14:45 two mile.
  4. Okay. Been in Afghanistan since December. Started working out with a buddy, who recommended Starting Strength before I hop on 5/3/1 with him. Started about two months ago with these maxes. Squat: 225•1 Deadlift: 275•2 Bench: 185•1 Overhead Press: 125•1 Then I started each exercise with just the bar. Adding 15-20 lbs on deadlift, 10-15 on squat, 5-10 on bench and 5 on overhead press. As of last week my new maxes are Squat: 275•5 Deadlift: 315•2 Bench: 185•3 Overhead Press: 135•1 Which brings me to my next point. What else can I do to increase my upper body strength? I've been doing assistance workouts every time. Focusing on upper body since I squat every workout. My last two workouts were Monday Squat: 240 5•5 Bench: 140 5•5 Deadlift: 270 1•5 Wednesday Squat: 245 5•5 Overhead: 95 5•5 Except for the squats, none of these were too difficult. It's just that when I get up there on bench and overhead, I simply can't push myself like I can with squat and deadlift. I'll keep updating, but any advice would be great. I'll be sure to keep track of assistance workouts as well. I'm also running on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Trying to get down to a 6:00 minute mile. At this elevation, once I get back to Bragg, I'll be kicking ass on runs.
  5. Thanks guys. I think my adamancy against it has somewhat convinced her to try something else first. She's looking to go with two of her friends to a personal trainer they've been going to. She advocates Crossfit and her friend does Paleo, so I'm all for it. Hopefully she comes to the realization that the hard work will pay off. Thanks, again.
  6. Okay, first off, I hope this can stay between us. If she found out I did this, she'd kill me. My wife is 5'8", ~240lbs. She says she doesn't want to even bother with diet and exercise because it didn't work for her mom, who did get a gastric band after weighing around 300lbs. I know her mom, and I can guess she wasn't really trying that hard. Anyways, I told her she needs to try a no carb plan and do an exercise routine with strength and cardio. I even told her that unless she's tried that for six months, a doctor is going to tell her no. Now, somehow, I'm an asshole who isn't being supportive of her. Someone, please help me out here. I'm really at a loss as to what to tell her.
  7. Hey all. New to Nerd Fitness. Still finding my way around, looking at different workouts. I'm 22, Infantryman in the US Army. Obviously, I do PT at work, but I have a hard time finding the energy to do more after work. My diet kills me, too. Lots of fast food. It's convenient, and cheap. And my work life is so crazy. Hoping this place will be of great help.
