  1. Interact negatively? Sorry, that's a new concept to me - how do workouts interact? Would you recommend running first?
  2. Okay, in the past I've been the king of taking the first workout that I see online that looks vaguely interesting and going with it really diligently for a few months before crapping out for some reason. It's time to actually apply some sense to this thing. I'm an Assassin, and I'm basing my training heavily off a parkour model. I live in a small town, so I'm not sure how much opportunity I will really have to do the cool stuff, but what appeals to me is the speed, the challenge, the endurance, and it's the right multi-purpose body type for me - not bulky, not skinny, just athletic. To start, I'm planning to steal the routine from the "Parkour for Beginners" article: 10 (building up to plyometric )10 10 on your back with both legs10 That for two reps Monday-Wednesday-Friday, hopefully adding one rep every week. But I have a Tough Mudder coming up in March, and I think I need some running in there, so I'm going to add 3 miles at about a 7:00 pace after that circuit. To be honest, it seems really light to me, but I also have a really bad habit of doing too much when I first get back into exercising and trying to pick up where I left off. Any words of wisdom? Thanks, guys!
  3. I'm pretty new here, too, but I'd suggest that you pick a class and join a guild. Everyone is super friendly, and there's an IRC chat you can hop in on for some live interaction. The tools seem to be really great for helping you set goals and stuff. Actually, that's why I'm on right now - I need to figure out what I'm doing tomorrow! Now to find some Assassin workouts... See, doesn't that sound so much cooler than "I'm going to figure out how far I should run"?
  4. You just put an xkcd comic in your post. I hereby declare you amply nerdy.
  5. That's my best introduction line for a group of self-described nerds. Honestly, most of the nerd cred on here puts me to shame. But I do play with robots for a living, my degrees are in Mechanical Engineering, and I have notebooks full of widget designs and concepts waiting to be built. In my spare time, I'm more of a theology/philosophy and social dance nerd. Maybe between all of that I have enough credibility to be one of you awesome people! I have been blessed/cursed with a naturally athletic physique - six feet tall, 190 pounds. Maybe that's not entirely true, since I grew up with decent eating habits and I dance fairly regularly, which builds exercise into my recreation. The good side of that is that I stay pretty healthy. On the other hand, it makes it hard to find the motivation to make big life changes and get really diligent about things like diet and exercise. I also haven't had a clear goal before, but I have to say that the whole race/profession model is helpful. I'm trying to decide between aiming at Ranger, Assassin, or Monk. So yeah - that's me. I'm not good with the whole online community thing, but I'll try. Good to meet y'all, and I've enjoyed reading some of the other posts here. So many inspiring and awesome people!
