  1. My 13-year-old boy is obsessed with The Ranger's Apprentice series. I think he's on his 3rd or 4th time through, and there's over 10 books in it. I should probably read it sometime.
  2. Just a heads up, Level Up Your Life is on sale on Audible for $2.95 today and only today. It might just be in the US, not sure. http://www.audible.com/pd/Self-Development/Level-Up-Your-Life-Audiobook/B01B8IRDDO/ I bought it last week with a credit, so I returned it and repurchased it. (If there's a better place to put this, please let me know or move it.)
  3. 1. I know there's a separate Facebook for the guys. Otherwise, I really haven't seen anything noticeably "gendered" inside the Academy itself. 2. Down at the bottom of http://www.nerdfitness.com/academy-overview-page/, right underneath the big green boxes is a link to do it with payments instead of lump sum. 3. When I go to levelupyourlife.com, it pulls my character from the Academy. I hope that helps. I jumped in right before the price jump (like, the last day it was still $99). Yes, I've respawned several times already, but I'm still at least doing SOMETHING, and the ladies in the Facebook group are awesome. The motivation modules alone are probably worth the cost for me. Oh, and FYI, if you're looking for something a bit cheaper to stave it off for a bit...Level Up Your Life is on sale on Audible today for $2.95.
  4. One Second After. Deals with EMPs and what happens after them, so no zombies involved.
  5. My back is definitely less cranky today, but definitely still a bit on the tender side. I think I've decided I'm going to continue doing my shakes for at least breakfast, even if they do have *gasp* 21g carbs. My husband said they're high carb - uh, not compared to what I usually eat, and I'm not aiming for ketosis at the moment so I can have that many carbs. If we can afford it, I'm going to do them for lunch as well, at least during the week. They're expensive, but my digestive system argues with many forms of whey (and egg white protein, and pea protein...), but not this one, and I can't get myself to eat solid food in the morning.
  6. I've had a wrench thrown in my running plans. It's the one in my back. Chiro popped it for me this morning, but told me no running until I see him again on Tuesday. Ah well, at least I can still walk. Hmmm...I wonder if I should lay off hula hooping and the Wii Fit Obstacle Course as well...
  7. It was definitely very chewy. Blech.
  8. I've decided there's no freakin' reason why my blood sugar does what it does, and since the kids are now gone until Monday, I'm going back to my low carb ways instead of easy-to-cook ways. I cooked cod and squash on the George Foreman. That was a mistake, at least the way I did it!
  9. Every once in a while, we have a white Christmas. Summers here are effectively blowdryers - hot and windy. Normally around 100 for the high, with random periods of 110. Not too bad, until you try to sit on a leather car seat wearing shorts.
  10. It's "only" supposed to get up to 76 or something today. There's a reason I live in Texas instead of up north somewhere that actually stays frozen for more than a few days during the winter.
  11. C25K W2D2 done before the rain is supposed to start today. First time running when it was only 50 or so out. Brrrrrr. I bought Injinji socks to wear with my VFFs. I think they helped.
  12. I had not read it, but I have now.
  13. I ate a TON of food for dinner, including ribs, potato salad, coleslaw, grilled veggies (zucchini, squash, onions, mushrooms), artichokes, beans, with seconds of potato salad, coleslaw, and ribs. Blood sugar an hour later? 94. Hubby has an interesting theory. Blood sugar seems to be lowest when I'm outside the most. When I'm outside the most is when I'm exercising more. So...there could be a relation there. He's also suggesting it could related to my Vitamin D. More variables to consider.
  14. So, with goal number 1 adjusted... I'm counting it as 100% on all 3 for the week. Hopefully by the end of the next week, I'll be able to figure out what my blood sugar is trying to do, and will be able to go in the beginning of the next week with my chiro and figure out a plan of action.
  15. Played tennis with the husband and kids....which devolved into him pegging them and them trying to peg him.
  16. Still tracking my blood sugar. I'm thinking it is highly likely that the TYPE of carbs is what triggers it. I can eat 57 grams of carbs from potatoes, and not a dang thing happens. I can eat 49g of carbs from pizza, and it hits 160. Still need more testing to prove my hypothesis. I bought a hula hoop today. I can't do very many turns, but I'll get better.
  17. I checked with the local running store. They just got in some New Balance minimalist shoes that sound like they'll work marvelously, as they have a wider toe box than the Merrells. They'll be out where I can try them on early next week. The only problem is, they're definitely out of my price range until mid-May or so. But, at least I'll know what I'm looking for if they're comfortable.
  18. If I wear regular tennis shoes, even with custom orthotics, blah blah blah, my left ankle rolls. I generally wear VFFs, Merrell Mary Janes with the same type of sole, and sandals. I looooooved my XeroShoes and need to get a new pair of them before it gets too hot. The problem now is that I'm running mostly on pavement that has loose rocks. My feet are taking a bit of a pounding, and they're not used to that kind of abuse just yet. I'm running on the side of the road some, on the mushy clay/sand (since it's still damp and freshly dug from where they laid a utility line - I avoid the part in the middle that collapses 6 inches over the line).
  19. So, the highest number of carbs I had in a meal yesterday was about 33g. We went for a 40-minute walk about 15 minutes after that. My blood sugar when we got back was only 103! And that was with the carbs coming from potatoes! I think that as long as I keep the carbs relatively low at each meal (20-30) for a week or so, I'll start experimenting with increasing the amount slowly after that. Just finished C25K W1D3. Better shoes are going to have to wait until we have more money, but I can survive with what I have now, especially as my feet get more used to running. It's going to suck if the ground actually dries up and I no longer have soft sides of the road to walk in - the dirt here becomes rock hard when dry.
  20. Not only did I do my walk, but I did another one...and convinced my husband to come along with me.

    I Can Do This

AoM has LOTS of good stuff. They can keep you busy for WAAAAAY too long.

    Rebel Chat Room

I'm sure hoping so, since I'm a thirty-something-year-old who has never really been in shape!
  23. Nope. If you're doing more than $10, they just sent out a code to their mailing list for a free cookbook. If you're ordering online, code BC001C.
  24. Did a nice little 35-minute walk outside in the sunshine. The cool breeze is lovely right now.
  25. Oh! I did C25K W1D2 yesterday. Much easier than the first day. Onward! (That also means I was outside in sunshine)
