  1. 30 minutes: Check Pushup count: 10 Life goals: Hubby bought my books for me last night. Can't do much more now until my transcripts are received and classes start. Woot! Going to do more yard work today since it's going to be pretty cool out. Unfortunately I have to spend much of my morning inside at a meeting for my MOPS group, and that kind of stinks, but when we get home we can stay out as much as we want without melting. So yay!
  2. 30 minutes -- check, and then some. Pushups -- didn't do them today. Life goals: not dealing with school stuff today. Buying my books tomorrow. Bonus: I tried some pull-ups under the dining room table like Steve showed a while back on the NF blog. I did 3! Think I could have done more but my hands were sweaty and I didn't want to fall and bust my skull, so I gave up. Gonna dig out my grippy gloves and try them again tomorrow. Maybe those can be part of my workout regimen. Wouldn't that be fun?
  3. I am sorry to say that I did not get my 30 minutes in today. No excuses! I just didn't. I DID, however, get in 9 full pushups from my toes. Woot! I also met with my advisor and got scheduled for some grad classes starting on the 22nd. So yay! I'll hit the workout hard tomorrow.
  4. Today was supposed to be a rest day. But I decided I needed to start the landscaping project out front. SO, 3 hours later, I'm pretty much counting it as cardio and strength training. Hauling rocks around the yard by the bucketload is not so easy. And I'm so thrilled to discover just how little work actually got done in that 3 hours. It's going to take me weeks at this rate. But that's ok. It'll look pretty when I'm done, and maybe it'll help me shed some of that fat too.
  5. 30 minutes: check Pushup count: 6 Strength training: yeppers Also made an appointment with an advisor for Monday. As of now, things are falling into place and I've finally gotten everything situated so it looks as though I can take classes for fall. The semester starts in like 2 weeks. Whirlwind! I also found out that my admission was a mistake -- I should not have been admitted since they don't have my transcript (I still maintain that they lost it though). But I was admitted, so whatever. I don't care.
  6. 30 minutes: check. Pushup count: 5. Made a zillion phone calls and walked all over creation trying to get stuff rolling for college: quintuple check. Turns out my transcripts and some of my paperwork were lost in the vortex. Again. I've attended 3 colleges now, and this happens literally every time I try to go to college. My first semester of freshman year I wasn't on anybody's class rosters, even though the registrar had me in the classes. My junior year some of my midterm grades got lost. Now my previous university insists they sent my transcripts, but my current one insists they don't have them, and between the registrar and the admissions office I have entirely different things in my account. Maybe it's a sign that I shouldn't go to school. But I'm just taking it as an opportunity to not take these things so personally. Even though at this point, it's starting to seem personal.
  7. 4 full-length pushups today. Heck yes. If I keep going at this rate, I'll be rocking them out by the thousands. I'm also getting some of my core strength back. Held a plank for 30 seconds and it was like no big deal. Woot woot! I haven't made any progress with the college because we just spent the entire morning at the park, but I'm going to try to get in touch with them again this afternoon. I seriously don't understand why these people don't return phone calls. I get that they're busy, but come on. This has happened far too often. Focusing more on the eating right, even though that's not one of my "goals" here. I need to get it back under control. I was doing so well with eating the right balance of foods and not much junk before July, and now I'm all over the place. Yesterday I had a major chips and queso binge. That's not me. So I'm buckling down and filling up on healthier stuff. I don't expect to be perfect, but I need to do better. Good thing I ate all the chips yesterday, so now we don't have any more to tempt me.
  8. I know it's not a strength day, but I did 3 full-length pushups today. Woot! 30 minutes in. Made more phone calls to the college. Still no closer to getting any answers. I may not get to take classes this semester, but I've decided that would be ok. If I can't start now, I'll start in the spring. It's just not a big deal. Just means I'll have a semester where I'll get the house to myself for 4 hours a week while the kids are both in school, and that's nothing to complain about. lexphoenix, I do love that website. Can't get the workouts on our tv because something about we don't have internet hooked up to our receiver? I don't know. I'm technologically stupid. All I know is, On Demand doesn't work on our tv. But I used to do some workouts from that site when I first started working out, and I throw them into the rotation from time to time, it's just a pain because I have to use my computer and there's not a lot of room to work out where I can still see the monitor. I've considered paying the money to download a couple of my faves and burn them to a DVD, but I haven't really needed to do that yet.
  9. Thanks Kishi! Life goal progress: Called the college to check on my application status. The website hadn't allowed me to pay the fee, and my husband works there and he had heard that they were doing away with the fee, so we assumed that's what was happening. Turns out it was just a glitch, and I did need to pay. Why nobody called me, I don't know, but now it's paid and I took care of it. Emailing an adviser now to see what classes I need and what's the best way to go about reaching my goals.
  10. Thanks! I hadn't thought of doing incline pushups. I'll do that. Today my 30 minutes was Jillian Michaels, Ripped in 30. I really hate that woman because she is so annoying, BUT the workouts are good. Also did my 1 full pushup -- about all I can muster today. My house is a complete disaster after a weekend spent avoiding housework (Twilight Princess is just so much more fun than vacuuming), so we're spending the rest of the day cleaning, and I have to package up the meat that I bought yesterday. I ate terribly this weekend, so I planned a good day's worth of food to get back on track. Already feeling better today than I have in weeks. Hope that continues.
  11. For some reason not all of my responses are showing up in threads. I responded to this one and now it's gone, and it happened in a couple of others. Hmm... Quick and dirty recap of what I said earlier: Didn't work out yesterday because I wasn't feeling well and let that overcome me. Bleh. But it wasn't a strength day anyway, so I'll just try to make up for it today. Going to add one full-length pushup each strength day, if I can. So today I'll do 1, Monday 2, Wednesday 3, etc. When I come to a day when I can't add one, I'll just hold at that number until I'm able to do 1 more. Still doing the knee pushups for the rest of the time until I can do 10 full-length ones, and then I'll just build from there. Gotta get off here if I'm going to get everything done before the hubs gets home at 1. Later taters!
  12. I don't share my full name in forums anymore after a bad experience with a nutjob. But you can call me AJ. NICE job on the plank! Enjoy your trip!
  13. This morning I did 19 at a stretch, but I've had to work up to that over the past couple of weeks. You're right, I do want to add in some full-length ones as I can, but right now I just don't have the core strength. Working on it. Thanks!
  14. Heh... well, technically it wouldn't be my "first" pushup. I was rocking them out pretty hard (at least in comparison to now) before I got sick last month, but now I'm back to knees. So at the moment, I'm just busting out as many from my knees as possible, and working on planks and ab exercises to get my core strength back up. My lack of core strength is my biggest issue right now, so I need to work on that. I guess that's what happens when you lie on the couch and don't eat much of anything for 3 weeks. :/
  15. This. Watching what you eat is crucial. I've lost 26 lbs. since January, and I owe it all to tracking my food, making sure I'm getting enough protein, and gradually changing the way I think about food. I still have junk from time to time, but only if I have room for it in my daily calorie allowance. If you want to keep track of what you're eating, you might want to check out www.myfitnesspal.com. It's awesome. As far as exercise though, anything you do is good. Strength training will help you build muscle, which then burns fat. But you have to be aware that muscle is denser than fat, so you may not lose many actual pounds if you're hitting the weights hard. It's a better option to take your measurements, as well as get a body fat reading to track your progress. Weight is not always a great measure of health and fitness.
