  1. So doctors still have no clue what wrong. So now I'm going to turn to Eastern Medicine. Reiki maybe?

Started the 30 Days of Yoga Challenge from Yoga with Adrianne. Kicked my butt - which is sad. But we must all start somewhere.

Cutting out dairy and wheat glutton t see if that improves digestion.

Flying back east 7/3-7/18. Happy to see everyone but anxious about being with my parents for so long. Already found a yoga studio in town that does a 2 week trial for $25. It's the little things that are going to help me make it through.

  2. Wednesday update:

I did not work out last night. On my walk home, fatigue hit me so hard it flt like i had lead weights attached to my arms and legs. So no working out.

5am wake up for a 5:50am skype interview. I think it went okay. I'm on the short list and they're doing ALL the interviews today. So I could know by Friday! I'm a ball of nerves and I only got about 4 hours of sleep. I'm hoping, hoping, hoping.

  3. Tuesday morning update:

so I don't have Cyliac disease. I'm now thinking maybe I should go see a holistic/Eastern medicine practitioner. Because this is nonsense.

Anyway, I did a long walk with a few minutes of jogging Sunday. Just shy of 3 miles. Man I miss running.

I'm going to workout tonight, and then try to get to bed early as I ahve my Coventry interview tomorrow and need to be awake at 5am. AHHH.

  4. Okay, lots going on.

First - I had a cold last week - who gets a cold in June? - so I put working out on hiatus until I wasn't snuffly. But I got back to it today!

Second - CT scan came back completely normal. So no cancer/tumors/etc. But n answer about my illness. Blood tests galore, and a weird diet to see if that helps. Meh.

Third - I INTERVIEW WITH COVENTRY ON WEDNESDAY AHHHH! At 5:30am. Because England is 8 hours ahead of me. Yikes! Yay! Ah!

    Fourth - new workout routine:

    Saturday Workout:

    10 bodyweight lunges

    8 bodyweight dips

    10 donkey kicks (each leg)

    :10 plank

    10 goblet squats (10lbs)

10 dumbbell press (10lbs each arm)

I still can't do any kind of crunches, but I'm going to see how adding planks in works out for me. I really want to strengthen my core/lower back. I'm also hoping that next week I'll add in a light run once a week. I'm going to also try and do daily stretching/yoga. Baby steps. :)

London really is massively more expensive to live than the rest of the country though, might be worth looking for somewhere closer!

I know! But my research site would be in London, so I either need to live in Coventry & commute to London or live in London and commute to Coventry. And everyone I've talked to has said that Coventry isn't quite happening for a single 30-something. :/

  6. Got another workout in. Feel good but will definitely need to switch it up - they're less difficult than last week for sure!

    Wednesday Workout:

    3x10 back step lunges
3x10 dumbbell press ups (10lbs each arm)
3x10 dumbbell curl ups (10lbs each arm)
3x10 dumbbell rows (10 lbs each arm)
3x10 dumbbell hammer curls (10lbs each arm)
    3x10 goblet squats (10lbs dumbbell)

Have a CT scan and GI doc appointment for next week. Here's to hoping that they find something and can help me defeat this thing once and for all.

In other news: I should know within the next week if I'm invited to interview for the Ph.D opening. If I interview and get the spot, then i'll be leaving California in a month, hanging on the East coast until September, then MOVING TO ENGLAND FOR 3 YEARS. I'm nervous/excited/anxious.

  7. It's Monday and I don't have to work!

So I got up and pushed through a good workout. I was going to go for a run, but it was going to be 80 by 10am, so that wasn't happening.

    Monday Workout:

    3x10 back step lunges
3x10 dumbbell press ups (10lbs each arm)
3x10 dumbbell curl ups (10lbs each arm)
3x10 dumbbell rows (10 lbs each arm)
3x10 dumbbell hammer curls (10lbs each arm)
    3x10 goblet squats (10lbs dumbbell)

I still find this workout challenging. I think another week or two, then I'll have to switch it up, but I feel good. Not weightless or anything, but I am feeling strong. Like, I have biceps! I'm going to hopefully incorporate some yoga for my lower back, since it's been particularly sore of late.  And aside from some carb gorging, I've been eating pretty well. Huzzah!

  9. Okay, okay. Work has EXPLODED and I'm mediating my way through lawyers and madness (not directed at me - I'm there in an advisory capacity). So... Yeah. Craziness.

Doctory-things: well, I don't have a bleeding ulcer and the doc doesn't think I have an ulcer at all. BUT there's no indicator of what's actually wrong with me and when she touched the area above my bellybutton I screamed. So, that's awesome. I'm on some weird med that's actually an Anti-depressent (?!?) which is also prescribed for heart and intestinal trouble. I'm kind of worried they think it's just psychosomatic and don't believe me. *sigh* Had an episode last night of serious digestive pain, so the meds either aren't working or are taking their sweet time in doing whatever it is they do. RWWAARRR.

Today is the first day since Wednesday that I've worked out. Besides work EXPLODING LIKE THREE MILE ISLAND the meds make me really drowsy and foggy in the morning, which directly inhibits my ability to get a workout in before work. I did manage one today! So, I'm pretty happy about that. Then I ate french toast and berries because I made bread this weekend. And it was delicious and I'm not sorry. :)

    Tuesday Workout:

    3x10 back step lunges
3x10 dumbbell press ups (10lbs each arm)
3x10 dumbbell curl ups (10lbs each arm)
3x10 dumbbell rows (10 lbs each arm)
3x10 dumbbell hammer curs (10lbs each arm)
    3x10 goblet squats (10lbs dumbbell)

  10. Wednesday Workout:

    3x10 back step lunges
3x10 dumbbell press ups (10lbs each arm)
3x10 dumbbell curl ups (10lbs each arm)
3x10 dumbbell rows (10 lbs each arm)
3x10 dumbbell hammer curs (10lbs each arm)
    3x10 goblet squats (10lbs dumbbell)

A little sleepy still this morning, but glad I got a workout in before heading into work. I might try to go for a run on Saturday. Baby steps...

  11. Monday Workout:

    3x10 back step lunges
3x10 dumbbell press ups (10lbs each arm)
3x10 dumbbell curl ups (10lbs each arm)
3x10 dumbbell rows (10 lbs each arm)
3x10 dumbbell hammer curs (10lbs each arm)
    3x10 goblet squats (10lbs dumbbell)

So I'm pretty sure I have an ulcer. And that means any form of crunches hurts. I'm going to see a doc on Thursday, and I'm going to focus on arm and leg workouts for the next couple of weeks. So, you know, pretty normal for me.

  12. Wednesday Workout:

    2x10 bodyweight squats
3x10 dumbbell press ups (10lbs each arm)
3x10 dumbbell curl ups (10lbs each arm)
3x10 dumbbell rows (10 lbs each arm)
3x8 dumbbell hammer curs (10lbs each arm)
    2x10 goblet squats (10lbs dumbbell)

Was going to have a core workout day today, but stomach is being grumbly. So, did upper body instead. Will try for core work tomorrow.

Now for ginger tea and toast.

  14. Okay.

So I’m reinstating my battle log.

I guess in the site upgrade those of us who weren’t active got all our files deleted. Bummer.

But I’m here – here for me. I’m not going to be doing any of the challenges right now – it’s too much pressure on me at the moment – but hopefully in the future.

I haven’t taken measurements yet, but I did weigh-n today. Basically I had assumed that I’d regained a chunk of weight because I’ve been stress eating over the last few months (although, because of my digestive disorder the quantity of what I can eat has been lessened). And I’ve only been working out again for about three weeks. Small, intensive 10 minute workout 4-5 mornings a week. It’s sustainable for me right now. I won’t make big gains, but an imperfect plan you can stick to is better than a perfect plan you fail at. So there’s that.

BUT I weighed in at 150. That’s a gain of only about 1-2 lbs since I stopped working out back in November. WHAT?!?

So that’s encouraging. Goal has always been 140lbs (10 stone) – what I weighed when I graduated from high school. I’ll reevaluate then.

I am here for me. I am here for my own, long-term health. I have to keep reminding myself that this is an investment. This is a lifestyle change – not just reaching an arbitrary number goal. And even though doctors still don’t know what’s wrong with me, that doesn’t mean that I can’t do all in my power to be the healthiest I can be.

    Monday workout:

    2x10 bodyweight squats
3x10 dumbbell press ups (10lbs each arm)
3x10 dumbbell curl ups (10lbs each arm)
3x10 dumbbell rows (10 lbs each arm)
3x8 dumbbell hammer curs (10lbs each arm)
    2x10 goblet squats (10lbs dumbbell)

    So, let's do this!
