  1. Hello everyone,

I would appreciate your opinion on my running plans for 2021.

There are two rounds that I would like to be able to run.

Round 1: 6.5 km I would like to do in 45 minutes (currently bit more than 90 minutes)
Round 2: 12 km I would like to do in 1,5 hours (currently bit more than 3 hours)

Current plan: I walk / jog / run each of the rounds 1x per week. how would you set the milestones in between?

Haven't run much in my life so would like your opinion on what you would recommend to a layman here.

    Thanks and greetings!

  2. Hello everyone,

this post is less about physical health and more about mental health. I hope to get some opinions from you guys here.

I found a job after being unemployed for five months. And the job combines everything I wanted. However, after three months, one thing is visibly worrying me, especially because we are now in the home office a lot. I'm in customer service, so I take requests from customers. The simplest things are complaints or reorders of individual parts. It gets complicated when the customer needs extensions for certain applications and wants to know which products he needs or wants to be told how to install or program certain products. We have a large product range and I am currently despairing of the many calls I receive where the customers blithely chat away only that I can then say: "I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with that, I'll give the colleague a callback."

I have tried to fight my way through the many documents, but they are only of limited help. It would probably take a lot more time to deal with them intensively. But I think that even then, I still would not have a good overview of all products and their applications. Since I started working there, there have been three seminars, which I have of course attended to expand my knowledge. Unfortunately, I often have the feeling that even if I have something explained, I forget it again or at least can not explain it to the customer.

There are now two weeks of vacation coming up. And if my chaos of thoughts continues like this, it will turn out, as I know myself, that one day I think I'll read through some of the product instructions, and on the other day I think I should use the time to switch off, only to be unable to let go of it in my mind anyway.

I can now think of a program with which I am fully occupied throughout, so that I do not even get the chance to think about the work, or I decide to actually use the time for my own further education, in the hope that in the new year I will then no longer be so frustrated with it. According to other colleagues, it takes at least a year until you know your way around a bit, and even after a few years, new things you didn't hear of so far are coming up all the time.

How do you deal with feeling overwhelmed at work? How did you get through your induction period?

I would appreciate to read your opinion on this topic, so I can clear my chaos of thoughts.

    Greetings

    Welcome back!

I am curious how your motivation for teaching German can go from so high that you would spend money on a course to get better at it, to so low that you want to finish only because of the sunk costs. Is it that your job takes all of your time and energy, or do you enjoy it so much that you don't feel the need for anything else? Do you think you might like to teach German as a side business if you had the time, or keep the skill as a backup for if your job is disrupted again?

The course is very demanding and difficult. On the one hand, this is something good, after all, I paid a lot of money for it. On the other hand, it diminishes my interest in it tremendously. Especially since my interests change constantly anyway. It's quite possible that I can put the course to good use afterwards. Strangely enough, this is not a motivation for me at the moment.

It seems that we may have some similar goals (and a love of fantasy and anime).

I used to run and enjoyed it immensly.  Not only that I enjoyed it, but it improved my mental health.  I haven't run in years.  I also feel the pull to run but just don't.  Maybe I'm scared.  Afraid that I will be too out of shape at this point. I'm not sure.  But I could really use an accountabilibuddy and wondered if you'd be interested in keeping in touch every few days to help each motivate each other and encourage each other to make some SMART goals?

That sounds good. I want to start a bullet journal and make plans for the upcoming year. Usually I start something and about a week later it's forgotten and something else got my attention. So I guess I wouldn't be a good accountability buddy but if you want to give it a try I'm in.

  4. Hello everyone,

its been five years that was active in this forum. Back then I fought with eating to much chocolate. After one fasting and finding a for me fitting nutrition program this is completely gone now. There is no craving for chocolate anymore. Unfortunately I completely stopped working out. I enjoyed it until three years ago. I went running and did some exercises at home or went to the gym. Not regularly but I simply started a workout when I felt like it and that was rather often. Now I don't do any workouts at all.

When I go for a walk I can feel my feet wanting to go faster and even run but somehow I just stay at walking.

Regarding my hobbies I am completely into reading fantasy books and watching anime.

I was jobless for five months this summer and I used that time to help other people learn German. Although I had no experience in it. I liked it so much that I started a very expensive course for teaching German. Now that I have a job back in my field (technical) the motivation to continue with the course is nearly zero.

I want to get back to working out and I want to finish the course for teaching German (just because I spent so much money on it..).

Off into an adventure in RL again and not only in books and movies :)

  5. Hello everyone,

because I learned from the past, my December / Holiday 2020 Challenge consists "only" of fulfilling following two points each day:

Goethe "Learn to teach German" certificate
    * one hour completing the tasks and writing my own script

Enjoy my free time with one of the following

    * watch one episode of an anime series or a movie

    * read some pages of a book

    * color by numbers

What do I want to do or reach in the next six months?

    * pass the Spanish Level A2 Exam by DELE

    * go/jog 11 km in 2 hours

    * get the Goethe certificate for teaching German

    * read twenty books

    * play Final Fantasy

    * keep my job and become incredibly good at it

    * paint some color by numbers pictures

  6. The first thing that I do when I move is to spend an hour and walk around the area.  You said that there is a great landscape for walking and running, how about for free-weight workouts or yoga, meditation, or parkour?  It also a great opportunity to find new people with your ideals. No matter what you're doing, it's always more fun as a group!

Hard to believe, I am living here for two weeks now and I still haven't seen anything of the landscape except the way to the car. I officially declare now that I will have an half an hour walk out there today.

That is great to hear! It's always a surreal experience moving to a new area. It can almost feel like being in a still forest even if the world around you is flying. It's new, you don't know anyone so the world just sort of unfolds around you.

I can't really speak on it in too great a detail myself but when I moved to college (There's a crutch right there lol) the first thing I did was used the opportunity to design and build my batcave. Made it very supportive since I knew I had the time then before I got into other things with life. From there I'd definitely suggest checking out Meetups to find some people in the area with similar goals and like Jordeas said definitely just wander around the area. Get your XP in for exploring the new zone!

    For the Rebellion!

    Douglas

I know my boyfriend - he moved in with me. :-)  I still haven't talked to the other persons here except the hello when I meet someone on the way to the car / to the flat. Maybe when the kitchen is finished we gonna invite them over for a official hello and getting to know each other a bit. On of the neighbors has an awesome taste in music as I've heard on the floor so far and he even plays the guitar to the songs he listens to. Gotta find out more about that :D

Designing my own batcave. This will drag on over some years because money is always short and we just threw in what we had (so we definitely miss some cupboards, chairs, ..) and every time we get a bit money able to spend we will get something new. Guess this is also fine, cause this way you always have some joy about having something new.  :onthego:

Focus on getting rid of as much stuff as possible and packing what you're going to keep. Moving is a huge hassle, don't make it harder by distracting your attention with "respawn" activities. There's time for that when the move is complete.

I just helped two friends move last weekend. They were only 80% packed when I showed up and had donation items waiting to be hauled away. This added at least an hour to the move time. And that was still one of the more efficient moves I've done. Moving requires a lot of advance effort. Get it done now or suffer on moving day, and probably suffer the rest of the following month while you unpack, too.

Getting rid of as much stuff as possible is an excellent suggestion. I definitely should have got rid of a lot of clothes. There are about 10 shirts, 3 trousers and 3 sweatpants that I need and which I got out of the boxes - the other stuff is still in two huge boxes because I don't have a wardrobe to keep them in and I don't need them anyways now. But I am always like - maybe, someday I wanna wear it again - which I am saying for years now  :nevreness: Anyways, those clothes would go to people who need them, it even would be a good deed also but instead I let them rot in my box. Aw dammit, I just realize that I urgently must do something against that =/

And you're also completely right about that moving itself is enough to do. Every day is like going to work, coming home and getting anything done. Sort documents, place stuff in the drawers / boxes / .., clean clean clean, get the registration done, ... Also a lot of time was lost driving somewhere to shop for things that are still needed and get something warm to eat because we don't have a working kitchen yet. Those two weeks flew by like nothing.

If you have packing left to do; color code your boxes (use patterned duct tape). This makes it easier for people to put your boxes in the rooms where they belong.

Haha yeah I didn't even write on those boxes what is in them, when we needed something from them while the movement I searched quite a long time for it. Luckily there are only 3-4 rooms (40 m2) so the stuff was all placed in the bathroom and then I sorted everything out when the helpers were gone.

Definitely gonna remember this for the next time moving :D

Thanks to all of you fellows for your care and tips :)

  7. Something from Austria xD

Last night was a severe trip for me.

That I am not coming home immediately

    was clear from the beginning.

Last night was a severe trip for me.

    I cannot remember

    what was yesterday.

    And she says:

When you come home like this once more

    we are divorced people.

When you come home like this once more

you got the divorce my friend.

Last night was a severe trip for me.

    All payed drinks for me

and you don't say no to that.

Last night was a severe trip for me.

    I had a good time

and no there you don't go home, home, hooome.

    And she says:

When you come home like this once more

    we are divorced people.

When you home like this once more

you got the divorce my friend.

Last night wasn't a severe trip for me

    was at home at 8

    with flowers and sparkling wine

Last night was still a severe trip for me.

Because on the table there was a letter

and my wife was gone, gone, gooone.

    And she writes:

When you come home like this once more

then this doesn't matter to me.

When you come home like this once more

then have fun because I am gone.

Now you have what you wanted -

    we are divorced people.

The kids you won't get the next time.

The dog you also won't get

and the house belongs to me.

And when you cannot believe it -

it is written on the divorce paper

    black on white.

When you come home to me

    I call the police.

When you come home to me

    They will imprison you.

    And it goes

Tatü Tata, Tatü Tata, it goes Tatü Tata

what does the Pücha want there!

Tatü Tata, it goes Tatü Tata, it goes Tatü Tata,

what does the Pücha want there!

Tatü Tata ... written sound of police car siren

    Pücha ... name

  8. 'Walk most of the time'.  Specifics.  Walk around at work? 1 mile? 10 miles?  A person that's at an office saying 'walk most of the time' might be a mile.  This can vary greatly.

What do you consider 'healthy'?  Again, this varies person by person.  Person A says that white potatoes are ok. Person B says 'no' and that sweet potatoes are ok.  Person C says 'no' and that brown rice is ok.  Person D says 'no' to all of them and has just boiled chicken and broccoli.

    2) Bikini is lowering overall body fat % (there is no 'spot balancing') which is general health - try a food journal to track what you eat if you are having 1 healthy meal: you need to know what the others are.  80% of weight loss is stemmed from eating, not from huge workouts.

My usual nutrition consists of chocolate, sweet cereals and coffee. So every normal warm meal with veggies or meat is a healthy meal for me.

The way of walking varies daily a lot for me too. But I just realized that vocational school starts soon, this + university will cut out a lot of movement. Guess I gotta concentrate on keeping my metabolism going this challenge. Probably a fixed schedule for each day will make it easier for me to cope with my goals.

Nutrition: 1 main meal, 0.75 liters water per day & have a food journal

Exercise: gym on Tuesday - gotta get a plan for that too

Sleep: 10:15 PM to 05:15 AM

    Seems better than before.

Focusing on making small, lasting changes is the best way to improve your overall health and fitness (appearance is a consequence of fitness).

It often feels like doing all these small these does not make much of a difference, but if you keep constant with them and keep moving forward and keep making small changes, they will quickly add up to big changes. There was some good advice above. Boring leads to progress. Set SMART goals.

It is good that you are getting comfortable with going to the gym. I'd recommend looking into the Stronglifts 5x5 program. It comes highly recommended by pretty much everyone who has tried it and it is very friendly to us new lifters.

Sounds good, must have a closer look soon.

    Thank you fellows! :-)

  9. Depends on 1) Your level of fitness. 2) Your overall goal. - what do you want a year from now?  That's a good parameter to help.

    1) My level of what? No.. uuhm at work I walk most of the time and I get one healthy meal per day so I am fine but still rather powerless and out of breath quickly.

    2) Look good in a bikini next summer.

If all else fails do an overall health challenge.

One nutrition goal, one exercise or mobility goal, and one sleep or meditation goal. You don't,have to move mountains to have a good, challenge and move towards an overall healthier lifestyle.

    An example would be

    1. Eat more vegetables. Have at least one serving of vegtables at lunch and at dinner daily.

    2. Exercise 4 times a week. This could be walking, bicycling, running, BBWW, yoga, what ever turns you on.

    3. Get at least 7 hours of sleep a night. Go to bed by 10:30 week nights and 11:30 on,weekends.

Of course this is just an example. Remember you can change the goals up from week to week if needed so you will stay with them.

Now you need to come up with your motivation. This is why you want a healthier life. This will enable you to connect with your goals and follow thru with them. We are all here to help you but if you don't know why you want to commit then it won't work. I would also suggest that you do the mini's and find some Adventurers with like goals and motivations. Posting daily or at least multiple times a week on how you are doing will be key with your success.

Yeah that is my main problem for the last 5 years: motivation - or self discipline. I got neither this nor that. I want to be successfull at university and be in good shape but all I got so far a physical and mental problems..

    1) Nutrition goal: 0.75 liter water each day (I know it's not enough, but small steps)

    2) Exercise goal: hit the gym once a week

    3) Meditation goal: one autogeneous training per week

Sounds manageable for me but so did the others. Well we'll see, thank you fellows for you help! :)

  10. Hey guys! You wanna create my quests? I messed up every single challenge - I cannot even get started. Please create some completely easy quests and command me to do that xD xD

  11. Our NF fellows gave me some suggestions how to finally start implementation. So my new goals are:

Quest 1: 3x12 squats in the morning

Quest 2: 3x12 squats when coming home

Quest 3: plank as long as possible before going to bed

Life Quest: come to appointments in time

  12. Hey fellows!!

I've made many challenge treads now. But I don't get a grip. This time the goals would have been just perfect, but somehow it doesn't work. When I should do sth. from the plan it's always like: no I am too tired, no I am hungry, no I don't feel like it, ...

How do I conquer my weaker self?

I thought about having a fixed plan again. But I messed up those also in the past. Some tips and tricks to finally make it?

  13. I wonder if that batch cooking would really make it easier and cheaper for me. I can eat for 200€ the whole month without having to cook anything.

1.00 € for breakfast and fruits, 2.90 € for lunch, 2.50 € for dinner. Of course the food isn't as healthy as it should/could be but it still is freshly made and no Junk Food plus I also wasted a lot of money on trying things and messing up everything. Additionally I am not at home from 06.00 AM to 10.00 PM what makes buying finished meals somewhere even more attractive.

I spent so much money on this topic it somehow hurts to stop trying but it simply isn't working for me so I better stop it.

Quest 3 must not get replaced though. I will simply chop some veggies, keep them zipped and each morning I make a sandwich for dinner-time at university. This way I maybe need less than the 2.50 € for dinner.

  14. Just don't nuke chicken.  It ends up being rubbery every time I try that.  I generally eat chicken cold unless I have access to a small oven/toaster with a tray.

    Good to know. Thanks! :D

Finally prepared a meal yesterday and heated it up in the microwave at work today. So proud ^_^ xD

  15. Food lasts for me at least a week so as long as I cook once a week- I'm all set.

As for it being cold - if you have a heatable container, maybe you can micro it at work. Or make cold things like egg salad, or possibly make soups and put them in a thermos to stay warm all day.   There's lots of ways to mess around.

Oh My Gosh - the microwave!! *facepalm* I never used a microwave but there is one at work and my food containers are fine with microwaves. Yeeah. Thank you Teros!! ;D
