  1. Looks like they forget to post on some days, but here it is. Not happy to see so many trim athletic types in the pictures, I don’t want to feel like an underachiever in their company. However, kudos to this guy!
  2. India. *sigh* They offer one free intro class only. After that, $20* for registration and the smallest package is ~$166 for three months, restricted to 12 hours a month. Unlimited classes for three months are $250. In comparison, average gyms offer three-month memberships for $125ish. It is on the steep side but having coaches is a must for the clumsy and completely inexperienced like me. I’m really not proud of how frequently I trip while walking straight, so good guidance is a must, which the half-priced gyms won’t offer. They give you a two-week on-ramp session, but I won’t be left with much of a choice but to continue with them for at least three months after that, since I would’ve already paid. As for the community aspect of it all, I would hate to be the only fat youngling in a room full of fit middle-aged athletes etc, so this definitely calls for a site visit. Another thing I didn’t mention: the box is on the third floor of a large mall. The rest of the floor is occupied by a McDonald’s, Subway, Domino’s, Costa Coffee, and countless other places beckoning you to undo your workout in two minutes. Talk about unfortunate placement haha. *amounts in US dollars instead of our currency, for universal understandability. You’re welcome.
  3. Let’s say you’re a fat little 140lbs heavy ball of love, not strong at all, embarrassingly wiggly in the wrong places (ie, in every place), very very conscious about your 5’3 frame being bigger than it should be. You hear about CrossFit, you fall in love with the ideology, you get ready to sweat your balls off if that means looking and feeling better. Now let’s stop pretending we’re talking about you, because you’re probably fitter than I am. There are only a few (I think 14) boxes in my country, so I think I’m lucky to have one in my town. I read a lot, and everyone seems to emphasize how important it is to give all the boxes around you a try, and pick the one that suits you. But I don’t have much of a choice, and I have no standards to compare this box to, since I haven’t seen any others. They also say that I should look away from coaches who just have a Level 1 certification, which this ex-state level boxer coach does. Their website has listed the owner’s qualifications as: CrossFit Level 1 Trainer; Personal Trainer - ACE; Resisted Movement Training - PTontheNET; IFA Senior Fitness Instructor; Client, Biomechanics and Metabolism Assessment; Practical Applications of Explosive Lifting and Advance Strength Training and the other coach is a CrossFit level-1 trainer, Les Mills certified for RPM/BODYPUMP. Keeping in mind that it will cost about double the rates of gyms here, is it worth it? I think I can risk breaking a few bones because of bad coaches if it makes me a better person but you guys know best. I just want something that I’ll willingly stick to. I keep trying all sorts of approaches for a month each, and always end up sore, hating myself for not having an effortlessly naturally beautiful body, whether that exists out of television or not. PS. Money isn’t a very big concern. Here, our parents pay for everything we do till we’re employed full-time after finishing college, which is a good 6-7 years away for me. Please don’t start bashing me for being ungrateful or too entitled, this is what everybody does and I can’t change >1.3 billion people.
  4. Hey there. One of my family members got a cholecystectomy done. Apart from the cravings she needs to keep in check when Aunt Flo visits, she eats pretty much the way she used to. It might be easier for her, being a vegetarian and already having been in the habit of eating frequent small meals instead of two large ones. Now I won’t go against what your doctors told you because naturally, they know much much better, but I’d say don’t worry too much about what you eat after your initial sensitive days of recovery are over, just keep eating a little here and there. It’ll keep your hunger as well as your fat intake in check; if you have ten small meals, you can’t possibly get ALL of them wrong! I hope you recover quickly after the surgery, just remember to take it easy on yourself. Stress isn’t too good for your mind or body. Take care.
  5. Hello to you too! I’m new here too, and I think it’s really really admirable that you’ve made yourself start again. Third time’s the charm, right? And it’s never too late to turn around. If Internet Explorer can ask you to make it your default browser after all the times you’ve said no, you can lose weight after stumbling just twice haha.
  6. SillyAnneh GOD BLESS YOU. One circuit just about killed me but it felt so so good. I’ve always thought that cardio was the only way to lose weight, which was inconvenient I hate running with a burning passion. Getting through half an hour was a task. But this is fun! I enjoyed myself. I want to do more, I want to push myself. But let’s hope this willpower lasts. Also, I didn’t quite know where this question would fit in, but do we have a section here for general chitchat and discussions or is it all fitness talk?
  7. Hey there! I’m new to this place and to be honest, a bit overwhelmed because I’m not sure if I can attain my goals without all the fancy equipment I see everyone talking about here. I don’t even know what most of these words — lunge, plank, squat — mean. Yes I realize I need to do lots and lots of research. But I’m willing to do whatever it takes, with inspiration and help from my new Rebel family! Getting down to business, I’m 18, 5’4â€, ~140 pounds, female. My short-term goal is to lose my belly fat by mid-January 2014, which I think shouldn’t be too hard, since my belly and arms are the last place the fat goes, and should therefore be the first place I lose fat from. Then my long(er) term goal is to have a beautiful, strong abdomen (and body, of course) by January 2015. This is the part that frightens me more, because losing weight sounds like a much simpler task than getting that amazing tummy. I wish I were Staci. My stomach is my target area because in January 2015, I have to wear a saree for a certain event. A saree is a traditional Indian outfit, you can Google Images it. Your stomach is bare when you’re wearing one, so I want to amaze myself with how stunning I to look that day. It wouldn’t hurt to impress a few men either. For reasons that I wish no one asks about, I do not and cannot have access to a gym, a trainer or any equipment. I do, however, have a treadmill at my disposal. And I believe it’s slightly easier to eat healthy as a vegetarian, which I am. So with a load of uncertainty, confusion and occasionally wavering determination, I’m saying hello to you guys, my fellow Rebels. I hope I’ll find mentors and friends, and have fun here!
