  1. I started a 5x5 program about 2 months ago to compliment my running. However I've started to slowly start gaining weight, which is not the way I went the scale to be going. My question is how long should it take to see a drop in the weight or a drop in my overall body fat. I'm also interested if I should tweak my diet more.
  2. Greetings everyone, I've decided to join the assassins guild if you'll have me....I'll be brief. Main Goal: Weigh 180 lbs. by spring 2015 Goal 1: Workout 5 days a week ie running for 30 min. practicing martial arts, going to the gym to lift weights, or some yoga. Goal 2 : Gain an even better grasp on my diet by eating 2 homemade meals at least 5 times a week. Goal 3: Stop procrastinating....more to follow shorty. Life Goal: Forcing myself to meet people my age and trying to make friends. I've lived in Savannah for about 2 years, and mostly just keep to myself because of work and my dog. But I really want to meet people my own age.
  3. I've been slacking for the best two weeks for the updates :-( i'm out of town for work so that has been a real changlle and I still have two more weeks. For week 3, I was able to run twice both times for about 30 min. at 14 min mile. For week 4, I was only able to run once and it was for 35 min. at a 15 min mile. Sadly no more Ving Sun until I get home. Eating...week 3 was a lot of eating out while I was on the road, but I tried to eat smarter. I was able to have four Paleo meals. Week 4 was a lot better, one of my roommates is into health and fitness He gave me a of pointers. I'm happy to report that eight of my melas where Paleo and homemade. As for the soda, in the last to weeks, I'm happy to report that I've only had one. In summary it's had staying on track while on the road, but know one said it would be easy. I'm just going to keep looking foward.
  4. Week 2 update I drank one soda on Thursday :-( but I've found that mixing St. Croix with orange juice taste very well. I ran three times, and was able to practice my Kung Fu twice. I also did eat 7 paleo meals for the week. Overall it was a very good week. Here's to another good week.
  5. Week 1 update: I've survived my first week to recap the week. I have drank two sodas this week, unfortunately two days in a row I forgot to bring a drink :-( For week 2, I've decided to just bring a gallon of unsweet tea to work. I was able to practice Ving Tsun twice that week, but I was only able to run twice this week. I've decided for week two if needed run in the morning. For eating, I was able to eat five Paleo meals this week, even though a few times I just wanted to take the fast and easy road. Here's to week 2
  6. Hey everyone, I just thought I'd stop in and introduce myself. I'm still trying to figure out how to use the forums. -Robert
  7. Hey everyone, I would just like to start by saying thanks for positive words of encouragement. I'll try my best to answer everyone's questions if I forget a question please let me know. I am not very familiar with freezer meals. If anyone can give me some websites or any recipes I be more than happy to give it a try. Usually on a typical week, I will make one big batch of food and put it in the refrigerator and store it but I'm finding that about the third day it gets kind of old and I get burnt out on it. I usually try to convince myself about halfway through the week to go and make another big batch of food but that never really happens. As far as the drinking of the soda, I don't bring anything to drink for lunch at work, so I grab soda (the only option) because I don't like drinking water all day and then drinking water with my meal. After I get home from work, I usually take my dog out and if I'm going to run for the day that's when. I try to run after work because it's a nice de-stresser. I usually run around the neighborhood, but if I have a late shift I go to a park and run. I was running for about four minutes nonstop and then a one minute walk but because of the heat I had to take a break from running. Now it is starting to cool down I'm hopeful that I can get back into it and get back to where was at. I don't really dread running as much as the side stitches and the impact on my knees :-) After my run, I'll eat dinner usually just left over from the meal I cooked at the beginning of the week. If I don't have anything to eat I'm usually too tired to make anything so go out. I believe that not eating out; can help bring my energy level up. I hope that answers everyone's questions if it doesn't please just let me know. Thanks again for all the support and good luck everyone your challenge. -Robert P.S. I'm not the most tech savvy person in the world so barefoot with me.
  8. Hi, My name is Robert, I'll be short and sweet: my main goal is to lose 50 lbs by next May for a wedding and to become healthier overall. I want to have people keeping me I'm check so I don't lose focus. Good luck, everyone. Stay Motivated.
  9. Introduction: Hi I am Robert and this is my third challenge attempt (hopefully 1st successful one). My goal is to go from 204 lbs. to 164 lbs. by next May. I have a job that doesn't require a lot of psyical activity but mental toughness (Air Traffic) , so after an 8 hr. day I don't have a lot of energy mentally. Usually, I stop on the way home grab a bite to eat than just veg. on the couch until bedtime. I'd really like to become more active over the next few weeks and start taking steps to change my life. I joined the rebellion because I would really like to change my lifestyle and be a part of a community. Do or do not there is no try - Yoda Main Quest: Lose 50lbs by May. Quest 1: Run for 30 minutes a day, 3 days a week and practice Ving Tsun, 2 times a week. I recently decided to start leaning Ving Tsun as a form of relaxation. Measurement: A = 30 min for 30 days, B = 30 min, 25 days, C = 30 min, 20 days Quest 2: Drink no soda for the whole challenge. I drink 1-2 sodas a day because they're a convenient beverage at work. I will swap out soda for water and unsweetened tea/Arnold Palmer. Measurement: A = 0 sodas, B = 6 sodas, C = 12 sodas Quest 3: Eat 5 Paleo meals a week. I have been making attempt to eat at home more, but I'm easy convinced to go out during the work week. Measurement: A = 5 Paleo meals, 6 weeks; B = 3 Paleo meals, 6 weeks; C = 2 Paleo meals, 6 weeks Life Quest: Save 1000 dollars in my bank account. I've had a bit of bad luck lately with my car, and realized need to save for that rainy day. Measurement: A = $1000, B = $500, C = $200 Motivation: I was told by a friends wife that all I had going for me was a stable job. She didn't mean it has an insult, but I started thinking I have so much more to offer someone than just my job. I want to live a happy life, since happiness comes from within, I have to start there.
  10. I'd like to make a few suggestions concerning sleeping maybe some might help. 1. Stop reading right before bed. I've read a few articles about sleep and most of them suggest not doing anything that requires thinking before bed. Think of it like a machine that's been running all day; it needs time to cool off before you shut it down. 2. If you eat or drink a lot of stimulants like caffeine during the day between 4-7p.m. cut yourself off. I've found that drinking that tea with dinner doesn't really "kick in" until bedtime. 3. Use a website like http://sleepyti.me to help you learn when you should go to bed and what time you should wake up. 4. If your not opposed yoga there are some great easy and simple before bedtime routines there that I found worked really well after a stressful day. I hope this helps.
  11. Food has always been a major struggle for me. During the last challenge my biggest goal was to stop eating out, and to start cooking at home. It was meet with mixed results. This challenge I plan on reducing my consumsation of dairy and meat. I plan to start eating more leafy green vegetables and fruit. My current diet is about average for what I'd like expectðŸ”🟠on occasions.I want to focus more my activity level for now.
  12. Hello everyone, After my adventure out West and the return of my internet 🎉 I'm back for more. Going to keep things simple this time and use the lessons I've learned from my first challenge. Main Quest: Weight loss, I'd like to wear a size 34 pair of pants and live a healthier lifestyle. Side Quests: 1. Staying active has been a real problem since graduating university, and it's gotten even harder with a full-time job. This challenge is daily yoga sessions (morning or evening) five days a week with bonus points for two sessions a day (2 points per session). Crossfiting at least twice a week (5 points). Bonus points for a third or forth visit. 2. Taking my daily vitamins to help with building a day-to-day routine. (1 point) 3. Following through with this challenge, and doing a better job with posting weekly thread updates ( 10 points) Life Quest: My life quests this time around will be to finish the Toastmasters public speaking program, continue volunteering a minimum of three hours a week at the Ronald McDonald House, and read at least one novel. Motivation: I noticed my reflection in the freezer aisle at the grocery store. A wake up call to say the least. Measurements Age: 26
 Sex: Male
 Height: 5'9
Weight: 213 lbs Waist: 39 in. I'm interested in finding an accountability if anyone knows more about how that works. Good luck & keep the motivation going!
  13. Better late than never, now that I'm back from my vacation from the internet. To sum up the past few weeks: The Crossfit schedule was nonexistent during the holidays, but I was able to make a few simple Wods while I was on vacation. My cookimg at home took a pretty good noise dive, but I'm recovering. Overall I'd say my 1st challenge was a C- with an A- for effort. I'm taking a lot of the lessons I've learned and applying them to my next challenge.
  14. Week 3 Still only two Crossfit workouts. I've found out my box is starting a 16:30 class, so Thursday after work straight to the box :-) In the mornings, I've started to wake up and do 15 min. of yoga to start the day off. Starting next week, I'll be volunteering in the mornings on my days off for motivation. For most of week 3 I stuck to a paleo diet, but around Wed. things started to go downhill. Ending the week with me eating out 5 times. I've started to drink more water and unsweet tea to start bringing my sugar intake down, so far so good. may the schwartz be with you P.S. If I keep this up, my grammar skill may go from horrible to bad :-)
