  1. I exceeded my running goal! 7 miles this week (3 miles Monday Tuesday Wednesday w 2 miles) A this week! Lots of Cyr
  2. @Mad Hatter san Diego is not as big with circus as Hawaii was, I don't really feel the same "family" group here. It's much more either training side or hippy therapy side... Hawaii had more of a blend. I miss hawaii climbing, skydiving, hiking and kiteboarding..... It's the perfect place for all of those things.
  3. I give myself a B this week... I got so caught up in work and chores I wasn't able to get all of the workout in that I wanted however, I ran an 11 minute mile, and I went back to LA for a minute and met up with some old friends in Santa Monica and did a ton of hand to hands which felt ahmyazing. :3 cyr Cyr Cyr Cyr.... I'm spinning so much these days I love it.
  4. You're a champion! Step aside whoremoans!!
  5. I ran 4 times this week all under 12:00: A+ Monday: 11:21 Tuesday: 11:17 Thursday: 11:31 (well I ran twice Thursday) Friday: 11:15 stretching and handbalancing I did much this week every day a little bit:A Cyr! I did it twice and today I will be spinning with my camera :3 watch out for video evidence!! Overall : A for this week!
  6. @sylph I was terribly disappointed because it wasn't just bumped for a week, it was bumped until July. Fortunately my work schedule changed and I was able to take it yesterday morning. On the bright side, I passed with an 11:15 run time. However, I didn't know that I had to have my eye surgery BEFORE going to class. So, it is unlikely that I will be in the July 11 class. But hoping for asap!!! @Mad Hatter I've been doing a ton of stuff. Mostly work. But I trained at the circus center in San Diego for a while (I live in San Diego now) now, my handbalancing skills are pretty good (not performance worthy, but it's a thing) and I have silks skills worth something. I've been performing Cyr and silks randomly for some small groups.... But I really want to make that into a thing. I have business cards, and I'm trying to design a Wordpress website so I can market my performance but I don't have much free time or the know about websites to be very useful. I ran like a mad woman this week!
  7. Welcome back!!!!!!! I guess we all fell off and decided to come back around the same time?! What's this?! Following and wishing you all the luck!
  8. am currently undergoing a preliminary test to see if I can qualify for rescue swimmer school (search and rescue SAR swimmer) in July. that means I have to attain at minimum the following: run 1.5 miles in under 12 minutes swim 400 meters in under 11 minutes pushups at least 30 situps at least 50 pullups at least 2 The qualifying test it THIS FRIDAY!!! So I better be on my a game this week! I proved a few weeks ago that I can accomplish these things, however it was a real kick in the teeth to realize how much I've lost in time on the run (or gained rather) and how the pushups didn't feel as easy as they used to. I am challenged most by the run. I can do it in the time required, however it is not easy and I really have to keep my pace and not get distracted! Here is my challenge summary and grading criteria! goal 1: Run faster: current run time is 11:50 for 1.5 miles. I want to shave that down to 9:30 someday, but just "better" for this challenge will satisfy this goal A = run 3 miles 3x per week aiming for a 7:30 pace (if this becomes easy to obtain this will drop) B = 2x per week C = 1x per week F = < 1x per week goal 2: I have very little control of my diet, so I'm going to put stretching in here as it will force me to moderate the quantity A = 7x a week B = 6x a week C = 5x a week D = 4x a week F = 3x a week goal 3: hand balance training = better/stronger upper body for pushups A = 7x a week (an hour minimum focused training session) B = 6x a week C = 5x a week D = 4x a week F = 3x a week Life goal: Circus performance means moar ROUE CYR spinning! A = spun 3x a week (one hour minimum can be cross trained with handbalancing) B = 2x C = 1x F = <1x my starting stats: age: 23 height: 5'3" weight: 141 May 20 I hope to update my page consistently at the very least weekly, however, thanks to my occupation, I will have trouble with contact for loads of weekdays so expect updates mostly on weekends. The best way to be encouraging to me is to simply post a little check up blurb should I be late in posting for a week. Also, ASK ALL THE QUESTIONS YOU HAVE!!! I am a true introvert at heart but I love to push my limitations and I am in no way reserved about my love of circus so you can actually HELP me by expressing your curiosity about all the crazy apparatus and things I do! (what a great way to fulfill both objectives) this also will help me be more clear to begin with because all these terms and phrases have become so familiar I sometimes forget what "normal people" understand .
  9. Last week I did all of the things! A in all categories. On to the next challenge! (Update, the test that was supposed to be held on Friday was postponed to this Friday. So I will be running on my best behavior this week!)
  10. Running: A handstands: A stretching: C roue Cyr: A im getting much better at handsprings in Cyr, I'm working hard on them... My run is getting much better the last three runs have been at a 7:30 pace and I felt good about them. Now the challenge will be to set that pace on the dirt with a stopwatch rather than the treadmill doing it for me! Im going to continue updating this thread with videos and progress for this week as well instead of taking a break. For or those keeping track, if I'm to include myself in the timeframe of this challenge, I got: run:B handstand:A stretch:B Cyr:B ab honor roll kids!
  11. @sylphsorry about the circus school, I can't even afford to go to mine anymore, but I just recently got promoted, so that may change... It's all about getting the next trick!!
  12. I'm trying to run as frequently as possible with a sub 7.30 pace each time. Distances ranging from 1.5miles to 3 miles. The test is 1.5 miles and I have to do it in under 12 minutes to qualify. Next Friday is the test to qualify for class and class starts July 11 if I can get in, there will be a test the first day and I will want to be well below 12 minutes by then. I have YouTube (the garlake) This is my most recent adventure I handsprings and no foot waltzing
  13. Running is extremely depressing. It seems as though my time gets worse each time. I ran with a 12:28 mile and a half the first time after making this post, and then 12:10, 12:05.... I ran 11:50 before and that was barely passing! I only have one more week to get below 12:00. I wanted to be there comfortably, but it looks like I'm going to be struggling. Im going to try to run at lunch each day and hopefully before and after work if I can wake up/not be in a rush after work. I'm honestly worried im going to miss out on a huge opportunity by just a few seconds if I can't get this down. *worry* however stretching and handbalancing wise things are going great! I've gotten down to the ground again on all my splits and, though it's a strain, I can touch my foot to my head again. I gave myself an A in stretching and balancing last week with a C in both running and Cyr. I was was out for work most of the week so I am making up for it this week with loads of Cyr and running.
  14. Thank youuuuu!!!!! looking forward to some circus antics to share (I'm glad to see a familiar face here :3 )
  15. DinoBytes returns to reclaim victory in a thrilling adventure of pacing, trial and error. It's been a minute folks, and let's be honest here, I'm not the most consistent person on the planet with keeping everyone updated. so for all of you just tuning in, here is a heaping generous serving of info; I moved from hawaii, to italy, to florida, and now I am coming to you live from sunny San Diego! putting all of the emotions and struggles that came with the following, I'll try to keep it down to just fitness facts; moving from hawaii also meant leaving my acrobatic friends behind. I made a couple new friends with whom i shared acro and circus with (I even taught a girl how to spin in just 2 months!) but I only got a real dose of circus community from two cons that I attended during this long hiatus time. (divine play and acro love if you're keeping track at home) I started spinning nearly every day for an hour or so alternating my cardio between running 3 miles and swimming 2 so that i would swim three days a week and have one rest day from running. this was all very consistent until I finally landed in San Diego. I began a membership with San Diego circus center and studied hand balancing there (which was tremendously humbling) but I now know where i need to improve. I began working longer hours at work and was unable to attend the handbalancing class... so i quit my expensive membership and began coming home and becoming rather boring, weak, and consequently miserable. so... I've been relatively sedentary for the first time in maybe... my life? (I mean i'm not that old so... it's not saying all that much but it's uncomfortable!) PRESENT DAY: I am currently undergoing a preliminary test to see if I can qualify for rescue swimmer school (search and rescue SAR swimmer) in July. that means I have to attain at minimum the following: run 1.5 miles in under 12 minutes swim 400 meters in under 11 minutes pushups at least 30 situps at least 50 pullups at least 2 I proved this week that I can accomplish these things, however it was a real kick in the teeth to realize how much I've lost in time on the run (or gained rather) and how the pushups didn't feel as easy as they used to. I know I'm a bit late hopping onto this challenge but I'm hoping to qualify as a completing member of the assassins guild and one step closer to Search and Rescue Swimming
  16. I'M BACK! *pant pant* I've been all over the freaking world (literally it's been nuts) hopefully you'll all forgive me for jumping into this challenge a bit late, but here's the gist: I'm making old efforts new again because I have a new goal: Rescue Swimmer School (convening July 5-Aug 11) I have a bit of work to get to where I want to be this time. but they're relatively normal goals like swimming, running and pushup times... how am I going to get there? the most abstract way of course! For anyone who has known my posts before (i'm so sorry for dropping off the face of the earth) I've been known to swing from the trees in aerial silks, spin around in my Roue Cyr, handbalance in weird positions or stretch things out all over the floor. This challenge (and the next) is going to be a lot of cardio, strength training, skill evaluation and literally leveling up my skill set! follow me for strange compilation videos! and a brand new website being developed for my performance side of life!
  17. Oh my gosh I am horrible with consistancy.... As it turns out I made a lot of progress in the roue cyr and handbalancing. I improved with slacklining and marginally stuck with my paleo heavy nutrition. Sorry everyone... I have been a busy bee... I will update in the next thread though... I really do want to get back into consistantly updating!
  18. awww that yoga class sounds awesome! and such a release! and the veggies balance out the cake right? (right?) good job tackling the clarinet, you should post a video or recording some time! and cleaning usually depends... but yeah working up a sweat anywhere sure counts (unless its tanning on a towel, then it's just sweat....)
  19. holy crap... that's like double negative mind flip... I think I followed all of that but that feeling is not just limited to the climbers only club you know acrobats, gymnasts, slackers, yogis, test takers, runners, writers, problem solvers and other types of humans get that feeling too how was the hike? and the climb yesterday? (do you sport climb or trad?)
  20. so, how is the handbalancing coming? any new breakthroughs??
  21. how's the challenge coming overall? update for the week?
  22. congrats to all the other most wanted! and thank you, I am very flattered
  23. Wwhaaaat no way! Haha this has just been a crazy week I am absolutely flattered
