  1. Week 2 Progress Report: Week 2 was kind of a trainwreck. I came down with something and I was decidedly un-Warrior Princess-like about the whole situation. Instead of just manning up I ate a lot of soup and laid on the couch a lot. Goal 1: Booooo I only did one day of the Beginning Bodyweight workout. I did do all three circuits, though, and some yoga as a cool down. Goal 2: Mehh Ran .85 of a mile on Wednesday. Goal 3: Success! I definitely ate within my calorie range or less than. Creative Challenge/Life Goal: I've got the ideas hammered out for my Christmas present watercolors. I will try to post pictures of sketches this week!
  2. You guys, I did so bad on week 2. I came down with something flu-like that was not the flu. I only did the Beginner Bodyweight challenge ONCE last week and I ran .85 of a mile instead of a whole mile. And my sketches were halfhearted and I watched a lot of TV in a Nyquil haze instead. This week will be an A+ week. I hope.
  3. Hi, just wanted to write in defense of GoldieBlox real quick. I know their commercials can be a bit heavyhanded about destroying the "pink aisle", but they definitely don't demonize the color pink, I promise. They use a lot of pink and purple, along with other bright colors, in their products along with cute animal friends of the heroine, Goldie. They're not trying to take away things that little girls like. Because.. if little girls wanted to play with boy toys they have PLENTY of engineering options. But if your little girl wants to be a princess and wants to learn how to build a Rube Goldberg machine too, then she has a product that is marketed just for her. (This is perfect for my niece, who will throw a fit when something is "not for girls", despite my insistence that girls can like dinosaurs too. Sad gender binary children. ) Also, my experience with kids is that most kids love the color pink. The difference is that a pink toy will get yanked out of a little boy's hand whereas a girl is encouraged to make it her favorite color.
  4. Yay! Congratulations on a great first week! I'm curious about how to measure BF% too. The "looking at pictures" method may not be best for me.
  5. I'd like to spend time each day on a set of 3 large watercolors for Christmas presents. I'd like to spend at least 90 minutes per week (until completion) on planning, sketching, drawing and painting the pieces.
  6. Week 1 Progress Report: Goal 1: Success Managed to do Beginning Bodyweight all three days (M, W, F). I did all three circuits on Monday, but was so sore Wednesday and Friday I could only do two. Goal 2: Success Ran a mile on Tuesday, but didn't get back to the gym to try for a second. But my goal was just getting in one mile, so.. success! Goal 3: Mostly Successful I managed to eat within my calorie range for the most part, but I did go over by 100 calories or less a couple of days. Not the worst failure in the world, but I can do better.
  7. Favorite is Michonne. Least favorite is difficult, since my least favorites keep dying, but right now Bob is being a reaaaal jerk.
  8. Meditation was in the shower for me when I lived with my sister and her two kids. Impossible to find a quiet moment otherwise! Good luck, you can do it!
  9. Gosh.. I really have to disagree about her being kickass in the TV show. She was mostly all talk. One of her biggest personal achievements was shooting Daryl in the head after insisting she knew how to use a gun. And she had 9,000 chances to kill the Governor, but acted totally oblivious the whole time instead! Alright, I'm probably being a bit hard on her, but I wasn't an Andrea fan... I love Maggie though. I didn't read many of the comics, probably the first three books, but I remember Andrea's character being way cooler in the comics.
  10. I wasn't actually a big fan until I watched season 2! Made me care about the characters more. I'm really curious how Daryl will react. remember when they cast Merle out and he was like "Well I'm leaving too, because he's my brother"? I bet he goes to look for her. Loyalty is kind of his thing.
  11. Hi! I'm new to the forums and this is my first challenge. This group looks like fun, I'm glad you had room! My life quest is to draw more often. I went to art school for my passion- illustration- and eventually dropped out when I realized I couldn't afford a private college. (Man, they really get you when you're 18!) Ever since then, my drawing habit has slowly started to disappear. I miss being creative! 1. Enemy - My biggest enemies are fear of failure and procrastination. I'm always afraid that a project won't turn out the way I want, or that everyone will think the finished product is totally stupid. So I usually just let procrastination take over and I push the project back until it's covered in cobwebs in storage and never touched again. 2. My current status is.. the drawing board, haha. I haven't worked on anything other then rough sketches during class for the last six months. 3. What I need most is inspiration. Hearing the ideas and success stories of others can really help out. Being in the environment of art school was so nourishing to my creative side, because everyone was always working on a project and talking about it. I need some more of that (without the price tag!)

    Sore...

Wow, right there with you, Joe. I'm dying from my Monday workout, too! Not really looking forward to the squat portion of my strength training today. I'm worried I'm not going to know the difference between "sore and just being a baby" or "sore and on the brink of injury". I'm just curious if the sore muscles are actually more prone to injury.
  13. I'm definitely not doing bodyweight back to back, but rather every other day. Thanks for easing my mind on this, I am not used to running so I want to make sure I'm not sabotaging myself fresh out of the gate. Would you recommend 'active recovery' the day of bodyweight training, such as a walk? And for running.. I warmed up by walking for about 5 minutes before I started running. Is that a long enough warmup for someone who isn't used to it?
  14. Thanks for this! I definitely need to do more stretching after, hopefully that will help to alleviate some of the soreness (I know it's pretty impossible to get rid of it completely).
  15. Wow, I always complain about the winter and darkness here in Chicago. Next time I do that I'll think "There are people who still go to the gym in Alaska, no excuse!" Following your progress! Good luck.
