  1. Hi Andy, something that really helped me and my other half was figuring out some healthy (or even just healthier) meals that fit into the "quick 'n' easy" category, and gradually making them part of the regular rotation. You mentioned that you're married -- which of you does (the majority of) the grocery shopping and cooking? Changing grocery buying habits is an important part of changing cooking/eating habits. As I constantly remind myself as I'm walking through the aisles: "if I don't buy it, I can't eat it!". Susan
  2. Several articles here on the NF site jump to mind. Here are three, poke around a bit and you'll find lots more great info. http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2009/12/09/beginner-body-weight-workout-burn-fat-build-muscle/ http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/03/10/angry-birds-workout-plan/ http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2010/12/20/the-20-minute-hotel-workout/

  4. Welcome lapidary! Congrats on the nuptials. How did you fare in Week 1, and how's Week 2 treating you? I'm sorry your previous exercise/diet regime wasn't enjoyable. Have you identified any specific changes to try while you're working through this challenge to make it into something that you can comfortably stick with for the long haul? Looking forward to hearing about your progress so far! Good luck!
  5. Loooove your screen name. :-) So how did Week 1 go for you? DId you sneak some fruit into your diet, or complete a few workouts? Out of curiosity, is there a particular body weight workout that you're following? I've been working on doing the Angry Birds workout (from this site) 3x/week but my muscles have been protesting so for the time being I've scaled it back to 2x/week. (I like being able to walk up and down the stairs without wincing! ) Looking forward to hearing about your first week, good luck on a strong Week 2 finish!
  6. Hi Nim, welcome! I really like your yard work mission ... it's definitely that time of year! I guess we're a bit into Week 2 now... how did your first week go? I've looked at the P90 videos a few times but I've never taken the plunge. How do you like them? Do you have any favorite routines, and how many times a week do you try to do them? p.s. I just got my tickets for Desolation of Smaug opening night. I'm sure I'll be exhausted at work on Friday but it'll so be worth it.
  7. Hi EP, how did your first week go? You did a great job of clearly laying out your goals ... any Week 1 successes to report? Setbacks that you're bouncing back from? Here's to a strong Week 2 finish!
  8. The Ren Faire sounds like a blast, and great job keeping on track. I think it's important to give ourselves permission to hop briefly off the wagon now and then ... at least for me, those special occasions do a lot to keep me from feeling frustrated / deprived and help me stay positive about the lifestyle changes I'm working on. Grats on the pullup advancement!
  9. Ten days in and a lot of successes so far. Awesome job! :-)
  10. Interesting name! Great profile pic. Any updates on Week 1? About your 3x/week workout goal (which I think is a great mission) -- have you found a particular program(s) that you like and are following? I know I personally accomplish a lot more if I have a plan in place before I get to the gym, and I'm always interested to hear about other people's experiences on that front. (I'm working through a couch-to-5k running program, and I recently started doing the free NerdFitness Angry Birds workout. Being able to track my progress really helps me stay motivated.) I hope that Week 2 is going well for you. Best of luck in the challenge!
  11. Welcome JDR, glad to have you on the forums! So, we're ten days in ... how's your first challenge treating you? Any successes with your quests, or setbacks that you're battling back from? p.s. I've always wondered how people manage to do handstands without getting awful headaches.
  12. Hi firefly, just wanted to check in and see how your first challenge is going! I like your main quest. Do you have a particular pair of pants in your closet taunting you that you want to fit back into, or will you use your success as an excuse to go buy some new ones?
  13. Hi EM, I love your "in case of emergency" carb allowance! How did your first week of the challenge go?
  14. Hi J, congrats on your engagement! How did your first week go? You picked an ambitious main quest. While I totally believe that you can do it, I hope that you won't be discouraged if you fall a bit short. Each healthy decision / action is a win. There have definitely been times in this challenge where my progress has been smaller than I would have liked, but I just keep telling myself that I'm moving in the right direction, and as long as I keep moving I will absolutely get where I want to go!
  15. Hi Kristina! How did Week 1 treat you? Did you make it to kickboxing class, or out for a walk or two?
