  1. Looks like you're making great progress on this challenge!! Must be getting pretty close to that elusive 5k now too!
  2. Finally got the internet back!!! I've been keeping up with all my training etc but can't really give any quantitative results because I have no scales Triathlon is on Sunday, very excited!!
  3. I'm definitely up for this! My triathlon's out of the way on Sunday and I'll be concentrating in running a LOT more again EDIT: Can't seem to edit the spreadsheet :S Help!
  4. I'm doing the London Warrior Dash next year! So excited for this, if there are any other UK members who fancy meeting up there shoot me a message
  5. Finally did a weigh in today at 146.75 pounds. Half a pound gain isn't too bad in my opinion, seeing as I'm spending every other night with my head down the toilet after a heavy night's drinking
  6. Thanks! Admittedly, I've got a bit easy because we're all students and all moving in at similar times. This means no matter how much of a hermit someone is, you can always ask "Where are you from?", "What do you study?" and "Bet you can't wait for fresher's week!". Catspaw, just checked out your training log too, your food looks incredible! If you're ever in England I'm afraid you have no choice but to come and cook for me
  7. Hey, I'm from the weight gain squad too! Sorry I haven't been posting, I haven't had the internet for a while. It's great to see someone using bodyweight workouts, I want to start doing more of these as I think they're way cooler! Plus I'd like to get in parkour eventually so they'd be pretty helpful. It's also really motivating to have someone else who started off really skinny. I'm still pretty scrawny myself, but I'm so so proud of the weight I've managed to gain so far If you want an opportunity to practice your English, don't hesitate to get in touch
  8. Hey, I'm part of the weight gain squad too but I'm finding it hard to get access to the internet at the moment! What I'm most interested in though, is how tidy is your room?
  9. Hey everyone! I'm really sorry that I haven't posted in a while, I've moved into a new flat and haven't had the internet for a week! Not expecting to get properly connected for another 10 days or so but be assured that I'm still keeping up the training Here's a brief update as I don't have the internet for long. My swimming goal is going fantastically so far, I've started doing it in sets of 100m, which means before long I should be able to string them all together and do the whole stretch in one attempt. I'm successfully increasing the amount I lift, especially on the leg exercises and I'm really feeling the benefits already. I've started doing a few new exercises which I will write about in more detail another time, but I don't think gains I aim for will be doable for these. However, if I can at least make some form of increase in everything I'll be happy enough. Can't comment on the weight gain yet as I haven't had scales available either, should be able to report this back to you all tomorrow. My life goal is the most successful of them all! The highlight of my "talk to a stranger every day challenge" was when I visited every flat in my new building to make friends with everybody who's living there. I can keep this ongoing too as there are more arriving all the time! This has resulted in me throwing a brilliant party already and there are lots more to come I'm also getting much better at maintaining eye contact and it's really interesting seeing some of the lessons I learnt about it come true. (I was told that everybody hates keeping eye contact and they're dying to look away too). Obviously I'm not going to overdo this because that'd just be creepy. As the life goals are going so well I'm planning on adding a new one - finish my lucid dreaming e-book. I've basically found that a lot of advice out there on the internet can be really confusing for beginners, so I've begun writing my own guide which I'm planning to upload to the internet for free. (Anybody interested in having a preview, message me!) If anybody is interested in my progress I still can access my emails, so will be putting my email address on my profile. It'd be great to hear from you all!
  10. Swimming was tough today cos my legs are really aching after running then playing football the other day. Still, stuck with it for 45 minutes which I'm proud of. My next swimming goal is to locate the nearest pool when I move to Bournemouth tomorrow! Diet's going well so far, not particularly paleo but I'm getting the calories in which is what's important to me right now! My life goal for this afternoon is to finally pack all my stuff for moving.
  11. Catspaw you're guna kick ass at the running goals and at this rate I can't see you going wrong on the others either! Every time you feel down - onlykickingpigeons is rooting for ya!
  12. Weighed myself today at a surprisingly good 146.25 pounds. Means I've gained a pound a week since joining nerd fitness, if I can sustain this (easy when living off student food!) then I should be able to complete goal 1 no problemo. Right, I'm off for my first swim! Off to a flying start!
  13. Aha the perfect time to make a change. Firstly I turn 20 on the 6th of September so it seems like a great day to start changing my life (I’m no longer a teenager!!) and I’m also moving into my new flat at University on the 7th which means I’ll have a lot more control over my diet. Fitness Goals • Gain 4 pounds of healthy weight • Swim 400m without stopping • Increase all of my lifts o Leg exercises – 10kg o Arm exercises – 5kg Life Goals • Talk to at least one stranger every day (E.G. shop assistants) • Maintain eye contact for longer I’m not sure how realistic my lifting goals are; perhaps they’re even too easy. But I’ll find out and adapt as the challenge goes on. The swimming goal is quite essential as that’s the first leg of my upcoming triathlon – I’ll be embarrassed if I have to take a break or swim breast stroke. My life goals are a lot to do with confidence; I like to think I’m pretty good with this but to be honest I could do a lot better. I want to be more charismatic and approachable so these are my first steps and I’m actually quite excited about them! Bring it on!
  14. Well in the 10k I recently did I was running a 5 minute kilometre and an 8 minute mile on average. I think I'd been running a couple of months before I started doing this but it just seemed to work for me. It also helps that I've never been too bothered about speed, so it probably started off a little easier for me. Maybe you could try a nose/mouth/nose (like a run/walk/run) for a couple of runs and see how it goes for you? I'd love to hear
  15. The best thing I ever started doing was breathing through my nose only, my distances shoot up when I stick to this.
  16. Keep it up! You're sticking to it all so well so far Maybe you could look at adding in some new exercises soon, they might inadvertently help you progress on the ones you've stalled on
  17. Looks like you did a great job! Well done on the 5k especially, I know how much it can make your calves ache!! Looking foward to seeing your continued progress EDIT: Just realised this was your old challenge, guna have to check out your current progress now!
  18. Sounds like you're easily capable of achieving what you want! You've shown your abilities already by helping your ex when he needed you so I'm looking forward to seeing your results here! Keep it up!
  19. That's what I'm doing at the moment! Have you heard of GOMAD (gallon of a milk a day)? I'm doing half of that at the moment (4 pints) on top of what I normally eat to replace all the lost calories and it's working really well for me. Managed to gain 4 pounds in the first week! Obviously if weight gain isn't your goal then you can cut back a bit, but it's definitley worth a google! Good luck, And let's prove everyone wrong!
  20. Hey, welcome to NF! Sounds like you have the perfect attitude for this place and I can see you going far already The only thing I'd say is that a lot of people here are fans of having more specific goals week to week which you may want to look into (Steve wrote a really good article on this a while back). I was quite stubborn about not doing it at first but now that I've given it a shot I'm never turning back! But good luck (not that you need it!), I hope everything works out for you
  21. I've been using dumbells for everything at the moment until I can buy a bar and it seems to be working okay for me! Definitely going to have to upgrade when I get stronger though.
  22. I have no idea if this will actually work, but swimming might help.
  23. It's horrible waiting for a leg injury to mend, but I found that as soon as you get moving again it'll make your day. I couldn't stop grinning on my last run (which was my first after an injury). Hope it heals up quickly!
