  1. Greetings, all. So I'm back in the Druids for this challenge after my last one with the scouts. I'm keeping the Scout class because I'm still running more than meditating (yes, they're similar, but not the same), but I think my last subject matter scared some folks. That's a shame, but ok. Moving on. Speaking of, I'll begin moving at some point during this challenge, so the 'traveling light' refers to getting rid of clutter, etc., before the move starts. Here's the setup: Body: Run 5x per week at least half an hour Cross train (TRX, swim, bike, kettlebell, etc.) 4x per week at least half an hour. Proper food selection (80%) and proper portion sizes (100%) Hydrate -- at least one liter per day in addition to incidental fluids Mind: Practice mindful eating Meditate at least 5 minutes per day Spirit Practice bass guitar at least 15 minutes per day Give a compliment to every member of my family and at least 2 other people every day Separate from items that needn't be moved (books, clothes, records) - at least one large box per weekend. I don't really keep track of levels, but I'll check in as daily as possible.
  2. It's going ok...buried under busy stuff and life transitions. Moving and trading cars and maybe trading furniture and oy! Still running, eating pretty well...no yoga, no swimming. :/
  3. Well, I'm back at it -- late for the update, but better late than never. Running has been going well -- at least 30 minutes per day. Adjusting to hills, etc., is taking a little more effort, but it feels great! No swimming yet...because it's colder here than I remember. Lol. I'll get my big boy pants on soon. Eating is much better. I can actually cook again, and that's nice. I am now taking my lunches (except when I forget) and eating much better food on the whole. I haven't weighed in since getting back, but that'll happen soon. Evening yoga has been a bomb. No one wants to do it with me... Finally, music. Saving, saving...and shopping. I am going to get the bass some time in April or May, so it's going to slide to the next challenge.
  4. Thanks, Bekah! I know compared to many, my troubles are few. Your encouragement means a lot.
  5. Ok, for those following, I am about to actually start the challenge in terms of my goals as posted in the original post. However, I have been running a 'dark quest' at the same time that relates more to the title of the thread. Basically, I knew that returning from deployment would introduce a period of disruption, and that my good routine would be toast. I also know some things about myself and my behavior that were likely to resurface, so I approached this time as a period of planned failure (in terms of workout/diet/self-management routine) and self-observation. The results of my journey on this 'dark path' are in the spoiler block, for those who want to read about such things. Otherwise, stand by for some challenge progress! I have been working on the cleaner diet, and have walked a few times to start oiling up the knees. 5k bright and early tomorrow!
  6. Thanks, Teri! We're back now...I'll probably start the actual challenge Monday, so just burning one week off of the front end. Leave will follow...sometime.
  7. Thanks. It makes me giggle a little, too. Lol You're going to have to narrow down 'things to do in the kitchen" -- cooking things, or workout things?
  8. I use an app called Argus to track all kinds of things, and water is one option. You can enter a goal and then it's a matter of opening the app and tapping the icon to register another serving. It's a good alternative if you want to avoid weightloss-focused apps.
  9. A strong core is key to so many things -- great focus!
  10. Ah, the thread we've all been waiting for! - What are your triggers that make meal or snack time become mindless? + Hunger, lack of time, eating on the move, emotions (even boredom), desire/craving, availability...so many triggers... - How can you change your environment to make eating an occasion rather than just eating on the run? + Eat at a bench, or at least not in the office or cafeteria. This alone would be HUGE. - What are some other activities you could do to keep from emotional or boredom eating? + Drinking water helps a lot, because I often find that I'm irritated or bored, and low energy levels are a good sign of dehydration. - Have you mastered the art of mindful eating? If so, what are some suggestions for those of us who may be feeling lost? + Engage your other addictions? Seriously, I'll be watching for suggestions myself.
  11. This is pretty much the same for me -- I find that if I drink the coffee on my commute, then a Lara bar and/or some fruit after I actually get to the office is enough to get me to lunch. I really hope cleaning the diet goes well, because I'm pretty sure I could be hauling around at least 10 fewer pounds given the way we've been working out!
  12. Oh, sorry to be so vague! Lol Next time I'll just PM invites about the pics and wait for the signups.
  13. Good stuff, LT! Are you still thinking of doing the accountability group?
  14. Thanks, Nusuth! I'm probably going to toggle back and forth, so expect to see me in future Druid threads even if I keep this guild affiliation.
  15. Wow, what a powerful conversation! It's great not only to have something you stand for passionately, but also to have someone who believes in you. Now I'm going to have to check out Bodyweight Brigade....
  16. Ah, soda -- that blight upon humanity disguised in tasty little bubbles. I grew up on the stuff and it was tough to quit, but take heart! Once I actually quit it, I never missed it.
  17. Edited the challenge to include my life goal and to tweak the workout schedule. I felt the need to do more strength training, so I reduced the running a little.
  18. My personal ethic is to run till I need to walk, then walk till I feel like running. No shame as long as the legs are still moving.
  19. I absolutely fell in love with the evening yoga, for exactly that reason -- I felt almost asleep at the end. Of course, then I had to walk back to my room, and that would wake me up again, but separate issue!
  20. This looks great! Social stuff is hard for me, too -- not just because I'm a nerd () but also because I like running alone. One social running thingy per week seems doable. Enjoy!
  21. I was actually struggling for a way to get points for courage -- I find burpees daunting. I'll say that I'll do them and then just whine about it for a long, long time. Lol
