  1. That is a great way to put the management position. Exactly how it has been described. Contractors on base don't need a lot. They get a lot of on-job training. I am not sure that makes it better though, LOL. Job opening say they want applicants with experience and a degree in related field...but as I know from their staff that is not always the case. They are willing to take rookies and train them.
  2. Thank you. So far the security aspects are most interesting to me. Honestly I would like to lead/manage. In the past I have always found myself in sort of that role, whether I have the title or not. Co-workers always seem to come to me for help and with questions rather than the boss. I have been a manager before. So would like to get back to that. From what I am being told by my husband and our friends (all in IT in various fields) I don't need anything but Sec+ to get in as a contract worker at the air force base. I don't even need that to manage or lead. But I thought it might be helpful to get some hands on experience before trying to apply for a lead position. Security and some of the new technology (like cloud) is interesting. My knowledge of other aspects are low but so far I am not as interested. I know I don't really want to be help desk. My husband did that for several years and I had to hear all about it....no thanks. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Fri-Sun, Day 3-5: Okay folks I went into this challenge unprepared, so goal 1 will take a hit. I am now stocked up and batched cooked this weekend, so everything should be smooth sailing this week. 3. Thursday, Day 2: Good day overall. Saw the chiropractor, took my daughter out to dinner, studied, then slept. FYI: Took my free meal at dinner. 1) Food Tracking and Calorie Watching 2 out of 32 days Food was good, tracked and took free meal. 2) CrossFit 1 out of 19 days Took a recovery day...ouch DOMS hurt. 4. Thanks Terra. I felt I could finally take on one more thing. We will see. Thanks Tank. I am at that moment where I either S#!t or Get Off The Pot. Wednesday, Day 1: Wednesday was a rough day mentally. We are busy at work, which seems to be the new normal, and we can't all seem to be here each day. My boss tried to complement me and I should be grateful but really just added more frustration. She admitted that while I was gone that so much wasn't getting done and I seems to get all the little stuff done that everyone else misses. Little things that are still important. I should have felt proud, but instead I just felt like "if I'm that important why am I stuck at this position with no sign of appreciation from upper management or pay increase or anything". Oh well....whatever. It is not in me to do less than 110% at work. So I will continue to answer my coworkers questions, finish what they don't, and help my boss, all while completing my daily schedule. They can miss me when I'm gone. 1) Food Tracking and Calorie Watching 1 out of 32 days Food was good, tracked and stuck to my calories. 2) CrossFit 1 out of 19 days WOD completed, with some struggle. CF Corner: 20 min EMOM: Odd minutes 3 Snatches at 70% of 1rm (55#) Even Minutes 10 burpees (last round for max burpees; my score 11) I was scaled to complete as many burpees as I could in 45sec so I had a few seconds rest. Half way through I broke down in tears, regained my composure and finished the work out only have missed 1 round of burpees. Too much stress...not enough sleep, is to blame for that. 3) Education 0 out of 19 days Nothing Wednesday. I plan on skipping barbell tonight to enroll in CompTia. Side Goals: 1) Take care of my skin morning and night. 1 out of 32 days Getting back to some good skin care, my skin has suffered being on vacation 2) Practice my spanish and polish 3 times per week. I use duolingo to learn, it has a couple of apps so there is no excuse. 0 out of 15 days Nothing Yet 3) Practice my piano or music reading 1 time per week 0 out of 5 days Nothing Yet
  5. Hi All- If you have been following my challenges you will see not much has changed. I have added 1 new goal though. Studying for a certification exam. As some of you know I am extremely burnt out in my current job and the daily frustrations are taking a toll. This has been building for a year now and that is a good sign I need a change. My current career and education is very specific and makes it hard to change to a new company, not impossible, but I hear lots of poor things coming from employees of other places. I know there are things about all jobs folks don't like, but sometimes you just need a new list of things to complain about Just kidding. I have made the pros and cons list and the cons of my current position greatly out weight the pros. So off I go to get certifications, and then hopefully a career where there is room for growth. My life is pretty full with all this so I will give it my best. I want to have a great summer body AND mind! So I need to give it my 100%. 1) Food Tracking and Calorie Watching 0 out of 32 days Nothing fancy here just track it and watch those calories. I will not get to obsessed over the macros or a few too many calories, as long as it doesn't get crazy -I get 1 "free" non-tracked meal per week. - I use My Fitness Pal for tracking -Calories should be 1622 with a 125 calorie cushion for going a little over -I don't pass fail based on Macros but I shoot for carbs to be around 100g or less and protein goal is at 158g (0.9g/lb of body weight) 2) CrossFit 0 out of 19 days The goal is just to get to class. Barbell and a WOD work out can happen on the same day. -Get to a class 4x per week or more 3) Education 0 out of 19 days -Study for my computer certifications. I am attempting a career change into IT, so getting my security+ certification is the first step. I hope to be ready for the exam in 2 months. -Study at least 4x per week. -Actual first step is sign up on CompTia...Which I will do in the next few days. Side Goals: 1) Take care of my skin morning and night. 0 out of 32 days 2) Practice my spanish and polish 3 times per week. I use duolingo to learn, it has a couple of apps so there is no excuse. 0 out of 15 days 3) Practice my piano or music reading 1 time per week 0 out of 5 days
  6. Until I get a new thread up: Tuesday was okay. Getting back into a rhythm can be tough. I tracked most of my food and ate good until bed time when I slipped. I got in my CF barbell class and skin care was good. CF Talk: Back squat waves: 2, 5, 2, 5, 2, 5 start at 88% and 75% of 1rm then add 5-10# per set. = 115#, 100#, 120#, 105#, 125#, 110#. (my 1rm is 135#) I PR'ed my 5rm by 15lbs. 3x2 Push press+ Split Jerk 65# 3x6 Complex: Single leg RDL + Waiter Squats 25# 3x45sec Planks
  7. Vacation in brief: So vacation was a blast and exhausting all at the same time. Gambling, sight seeing, a little (controlled) drinking, eating, and dancing. Eating went pretty well actually. Las Vegas has not come up to speed with Gluten Free options. So it was easy to keep things pretty clean. I ate lots of meat!!! Of course we walked a lot, 36 miles to be exact. I lost 3 pounds on my vacation. I am now trying to not gain it back. I did use the hotel fitness center 1 day. It wasn't great so I didn't go back...plus we were busy every day. It was great to get away. I got some alone time a couple nights...I watched a live band in our hotel and even jumped out of my comfort zone and danced. I usually only dance if I have friends with me willing to dance, but not this time. I had so much fun by myself. Getting back to real life has been hard. I am tired from lack of restful sleep and who wants to go back to a job they are bored with. Oh well life must go on and I will make the best of it. Challenge: We will call this challenge finished as of my last post. It wasn't great. I will update numbers on that posting. On to the next.
  8. Friday-Sunday, Day 26-28: There was good, there was bad...but it's all okay because I'm going on vacation Goal points being adjusted due to time away. Will be back on next weekend. In other news my resume is done, I just need to wait for an opening somewhere. In the mean time I will continue to study for my computer certification(s). 1) Food Tracking and Calorie Watching 18.5 out of 29 days 64% POOR Friday my free day...Passing Saturday and Sunday incomplete tracking and poor food choices...Failing 2) CrossFit 10 out of 17 days 59% POOR Barbell on Saturday CF Corner: Snatch waves, {3 at 70%, 2 at 75%, 1 at 80%, 3 at 73%, 2 at 78%, 1 at 83%, 2x1 at 85%} = in pounds: 50, 55, 60, 55, 60, 60, 65 heavy set of 8, -10% for 2x8 Push Press = 40lbs for all....should have done 50# then 45# 4x8 Kang Squats = 45.5#, 47.5#, 48#, 50# Core Muscular Balance Complex= 3x10 barbell rollouts, 3x45sec unilateral farmers carry at 35# Side Goals: 1) Take care of my skin morning and night. 28 out of 28 days 100% Great 2) Practice my spanish and polish 3 times per week. 9. Thursday, Day 25: It was a good food day but bad work day. Saw the chiropractor and got all the things adjusted...twas wonderful. 1) Food Tracking and Calorie Watching 17.5 out of 35 days Passing. 2) CrossFit 9 out of 20 days Nope, didn't have enough food in me and needed to run errands. CF Corner: Side Goals: 1) Take care of my skin morning and night. Completed 25 out of 35 days 2) Practice my spanish and polish 3 times per week. I use duolingo to learn, it has a couple of apps so there is no excuse. Not yet 9 out of 15 days 3) Practice my piano or music reading 1 time per week Not yet 3 out of 5 days
  10. Wednesday, Day 24: Wednesdays are busy, but I got a lot done. CF, ate okay, quick spanish practice (not enough to count as a session completion), plus got my daughter to CF and gymnastics on time. She did great in gymnastics. I was so proud. 1) Food Tracking and Calorie Watching 16.5 out of 35 days Passing. 2) CrossFit 9 out of 20 days I used some gym time to just use the Airdyne. I was not feeling my best so doing running and jumping sounded horrible. CF Corner: 6miles on the airdyne in ~30mins spent about 5-10 mins attempting to kick up to a handstand. finally hit 3. This is my first set of successes. Side Goals: 1) Take care of my skin morning and night. Completed 24 out of 35 days 2) Practice my spanish and polish 3 times per week. I use duolingo to learn, it has a couple of apps so there is no excuse. Not yet 9 out of 15 days 3) Practice my piano or music reading 1 time per week Not yet 3 out of 5 days
  11. Tuesday, Day 23: Tuesday was mostly a success...at least it was better then I have had. Food was okay (more below) and I skipped CF barbell. I spent maybe 2 hours on my resume and I'm still not done. Whew, government resumes are wordy. But I made some really great headway. I had to get all my old "job description" and "raise/promotion" documents out to remember timelines and what I did. I'm glad I have saved them all these years. My husband skipped class too. He recognized that the house was getting cluttered and was trying to clean it before I got home. He hadn't gotten far but it was a sweet thought. (He admitted that he was doing it so I didn't explode on everyone...when the house gets too cluttered it happens...I go off on everybody. So he was sort of saving himself LOL) So I helped out, then finally got dinner before settling down in front on my laptop. It was super windy here yesterday and it made it hard to sleep. I'm a little tired today. 1) Food Tracking and Calorie Watching 15.5 out of 35 days Passing. Did really well until bedtime. I had a small snack that is not a healthy food choice, but I am approving this day because I held it together until then. 2) CrossFit 9 out of 20 days nothing, I skipped class. I didn't want to rush from the dentist (for Micah...YAY no cavities) to class. I was exhausted and had a lot on my mind. CF Corner: Side Goals: 1) Take care of my skin morning and night. Completed 23 out of 35 days 2) Practice my spanish and polish 3 times per week. I use duolingo to learn, it has a couple of apps so there is no excuse. Not yet 9 out of 15 days 3) Practice my piano or music reading 1 time per week Not yet 3 out of 5 days
  12. Monday, Day 22: Not a good food day, but I did send hubby to the grocery store. So today I am prepared and have a food plan. It is a busy evening but that is no excuse, I can get it together. 1) Food Tracking and Calorie Watching 14.5 out of 35 days Fail 2) CrossFit 9 out of 20 days nothing CF Corner: Side Goals: 1) Take care of my skin morning and night. Completed 22 out of 35 days 2) Practice my spanish and polish 3 times per week. I use duolingo to learn, it has a couple of apps so there is no excuse. Not yet 9 out of 15 days 3) Practice my piano or music reading 1 time per week Not yet 3 out of 5 days
  13. LOL, thanks, I needed that. Well we did not need that hint there were no balls rolling that night.
  14. 18.6 and thus the OPEN is done: (copy from my challenge thread) 18.6 was a last competition for our gym teams. After the work out the coaches tallied our scores and declared a winner. There was food and drink. Mostly a good time Each team leader was allowed to pick 4 people to participate in 18.6. I was one of the chosen. At 6:30 Friday night we were all there and ready. It was announced that each team was to be put in an escape room. We had to work out the clues to fight the "zombies", unlock the oven to rescue the last pizza, and escape. First team out received 4pts, second place got 3 pts, and so on. If you needed a hint to one of the clues you had to earn it. 1st hint: 30 lunge steps per member 2nd hint: carry all the dumbells from one end of the gym to the other, no running with dumbbells 3rd hint: 40 20" box jumps as a team 4th hint: 80 burpees as a team 5th hint: 100 team wall balls (wallball so the ball is caught by the next person, if the ball hits the ground you have to do 3 burpees) My team used 4 hints and finished first. It took us 69mins and 45 secs. We were frustrated. We had hoped on a regular WOD so we could interact with the spectators and then socialize. Oh well it was fun-ish. So my team earned 4pts earning us top ranking in the gym. Team Warrensdottir for the win!.
  15. Friday-Sunday, Day 19-21: I have really dropped the ball on this challenge. Side quests are getting done but the food goal is falling apart. Stress and a busy schedule are making it tough. 1) Food Tracking and Calorie Watching 14.5 out of 35 days Fail all 3 days 2) CrossFit 9 out of 20 days Open 18.6 CF Corner: 18.6 was a last competition for our gym teams. 16. Thursday, Day 18: It was a good day. Did some studying, still not much appetite but ate okay, barbell went well, and slept a little better. 1) Food Tracking and Calorie Watching 14.5 out of 35 days Pass, appetite has been low 2) CrossFit 8 out of 20 days Barbell CF Corner: Clean & Jerk waves [reps: 3,2,1,3,2,1,1,1 weight: 65%, 70%, 75%, 70%, 75%, 80%, 85%, 85% of 1rm] = 65#, 70#, 75#, 70#, 75#, 80#, 80#, 80# front squat drills [reps: 1x1, then 3x3 weight: find a max with good form for 1 then 80% for 3x3; pattern: hold at bottom for 7secs and at top for 15sec each rep] = 65#, 55# Lower Muscular Balance Complex [3x10 bulgarian split squat, 3x8 dumbbell RDL] = no weight on split squat, 15# db for rdl GH Raises 3x8 Side Goals: 1) Take care of my skin morning and night. Completed 18 out of 35 days 2) Practice my spanish and polish 3 times per week. I use duolingo to learn, it has a couple of apps so there is no excuse. Polish Practice 7 out of 15 days 3) Practice my piano or music reading 1 time per week No more 2 out of 5 days
  17. My percentiles are so pathetic, but you have to start somewhere. 6th Worldwide women (35-39) 6th North Central women (35-39) Oh Well. They are only numbers. Plus those include all women (RX and scaled). Can't seem to get a percentile for just scaled.
  18. Well my gym is having an 18.6. Our gym teams (there are 4 of them) are competing once more for a chance to win the gym title. Each team gets to pick only 4 teammates to do the WOD. I have been chosen. I am not sure what the WOD is yet. So the Games continue for this girl. One more WOD. After 18.6 we are having a party with awards and such. Should be a good time.
  19. Wednesday, Day 17: Took a rest day. My gym is having a 18.6 WOD and an after party Friday. Each team within my gym gets to chose 4 members to compete in 18.6. I have been asked. SO I guess I have one more to do. I needed a rest day...which really didn't help settle my mind at all. I did review my resume and talked to my cousin for a while. She had some good advice. She is a GS civil service employee so has good insight as to how to get in. Since I am so new to all other career fields I am going to have to start at the bottom and work my way up. I can do this two ways. 1) Try to go straight for a GS position and start as a GS7 and work my way up (this cuts my current salary by ~20,000) or 2) I can get 2 computer certification and start as a junior or entry level IT government contractor, let them get my security clearance and get some experience...then try for a GS position. This path may lead to less pay cut but will take me longer to get in as a GS which is my ultimate goal. I stress because I don't have a clear picture of what I want my future to look like. But honestly I never really knew what I wanted to do for a career. I found genetics while in college and went with it. Got lucky with a job. Found some love for it, but I sort of just stumbled into a career. All I do know is I don't want to work in the city anymore, something closer to home, and I want to something with the opportunity to continually learn and progress. IT seems to fit the bill. There are so many IT fields and so much opportunity to learn. And the civil service route is fairly stable with room for promotion and growth. 1) Food Tracking and Calorie Watching 13.5 out of 35 days Pass, appetite has been low 2) CrossFit 7 out of 20 days rest day CF Corner: Side Goals: 1) Take care of my skin morning and night. Completed 17 out of 35 days 2) Practice my spanish and polish 3 times per week. I use duolingo to learn, it has a couple of apps so there is no excuse. Nothing 6 out of 15 days 3) Practice my piano or music reading 1 time per week No more 2 out of 5 days
  20. Tuesday, Day 16: Barbell class went well. I kept weights light due to poor sleep and stress. Food was okay, ended dinner with enough carbs and calories left for an ice cream bar. Yummy! I am trying to find outlets for my stress that are not food or alcohol. You know it's bad when all you want is a drink, you know to help you unwind. But I have refrained. CF helps, and TV helps. But the overwhelming anxiety is harsh. I know I need a change, but thought of doing it scares the shit out me. I know this is normal. I will settle down, just need to give my brain a chance. 1) Food Tracking and Calorie Watching 12.5 out of 35 days Pass, 2) CrossFit 7 out of 20 days Barbell; I failed to enough enough before working out and the sets of 10 back squats was making me a little dizzy, so I took them slow. THe push ups went well. I was able to do more reps before pausing for a break. Good progress there. CF Corner: Back Squat Waves, 3 rounds of {set of 3 then set of 10} = 95# and 75# 3x3 Snatch grip deadlifts with a 6sec lowering each rep = 65# Complex 1: 3x10 barbell rows and 3x12 push ups = 55# and knee push ups Complex 2: 3x8 v-ups and 3x45sec overhead single arm carry = 20# Side Goals: 1) Take care of my skin morning and night. Completed 16 out of 35 days 2) Practice my spanish and polish 3 times per week. I use duolingo to learn, it has a couple of apps so there is no excuse. Nothing 6 out of 15 days 3) Practice my piano or music reading 1 time per week No more 2 out of 5 days
  21. 72 reps scaled for me. That's 12 of 15 thrusters.
  22. Monday, Day 15: Food was decent. Got in a WOD. Made some decisions about my working future. There is no harm in learning a new skill while working my current job and seeing what is out there. If I find something great if not I still got this...for whatever its worth. My plan is to learn some IT skills and get some certifications, and just see where that can go. 1) Food Tracking and Calorie Watching 11.5 out of 35 days Pass, 2) CrossFit 6 out of 20 days WOD CF Corner: We did some agility work. It was a lot of fun. Ladder drills and dot work. We did some jump rope work. Then we did a 7min AMRAP of 15cal row and 15 push ups. I was moving somewhat slow, finished 3 rounds. Score 90. Side Goals: 1) Take care of my skin morning and night. Completed 15 out of 35 days 2) Practice my spanish and polish 3 times per week. I use duolingo to learn, it has a couple of apps so there is no excuse. Nothing 6 out of 15 days 3) Practice my piano or music reading 1 time per week No more 2 out of 5 days
