  1. I consider "professional facial hair" similarly to a "dress short-sleeved shirt": oxymorons. It is a matter of choice. As others above have noted, it's a tough market out there. Why limit those options? No one will hold a clean shave against you. You can always re-grow the beard once hired, if the business environment supports it.
  2. Don't delete it. Red1263 provides good advice. I've been blogging nine years . . . pretty much daily. You do need to decide what your audience is, reason for doing so, etc. My focus has shifted over the years, but the underlying fact is that it is for me. If others enjoy it, great. If not, no biggy. I had a plugin written for me several years ago that will append the end of each post with all the posts made on the same date in previous years. I love it when I post each day to peruse what I wrote last year, two years ago, nine years ago, etc. I've plugged in other events from my life, so I am able to re-live concerts I attended 30 years ago as I stroll down memory lane. Yeah, my blog is for me. When you delete your posts, you are removing part of your history that you may enjoy later on.
  3. I roast my vegetables. Whatever I have on hand goes in. The top image was onions, peppers, tomatoes, and carrots. The middle image was onions, carrots, and zucchini. The bottom was a butternut squash.Whatever I dice I place on baking sheets. I put a piece of parchment beneath them. I then sprinkle a little olive oil and a healthy dose of Kosher salt and ground black pepper. I then toss them. Butternut squash I usually roast for about 40 minutes, tossing every 15 minutes or so. Vegetable trays with tomatoes and zucchini I usually roast for about 25 minutes, tossing halfway through. More and more, I use broccoli and cauliflower in these. I have sprinkled red pepper flakes on occasion to kick up the heat a touch. Really, you can use/do whatever you want with these. I love having vegetables on hand at all times.
  4. Somehow I missed this post seven months ago. My apologies. These are 26" tires.
  5. We entered the cellphone game four years ago. We just had flip phones. When the contract was coming up, I suggested we drop the phones. My wife didn't want that. I came back with let's get smartphones. Loved it! Y'see, I don't talk on the phone at all. My wife calls once in a while, but the # of calls I make is minimal. But I love checking Twitter, Yelp, etc. I always had the phone going. The turn-by-turn GPS was phenomenal. Two months ago I broke the phone. My fault. Phone company wanted me to sign new contract to activate new phone. They said if I didn't do it within a month, my unlimited data would disappear too. That got me thinking . . . why do I have a phone? I gave it up. I reactivated the flip phone to ride out the contract (another month). I gave it to my daughter who is thrilled. I haven't carried a phone in about two months, gave up Twitter, G+, and a few other social networks and haven't looked back. My wife still has her phone. She likes it, but I wonder if she'll continue off contract after next month. For me, I feel liberated without the phone.
  6. I cook my vegetables two baking sheets at a time. This lasts almost two days . . . depending.
  7. That looks like fun! I imagine I wouldn't last long, but I think that would be a gas to try. I'll have to keep my eyes out if there is anything like that around. I never even considered that was an option. Thanks for opening my eyes. And good luck with your training.
  8. If I am not mistaken, you can copy the directory/folder and everything below it will remain intact. So, copy My Documents/Dummy_Folder to My Documents/John Smith, but keep the files named Dummy_Client.xls and Dummy_Client.docx. That should work. Don't rename the files, only the directory.

    Olive Oil?

Coconut oil has a higher smoke temperature, although not by much. Eggs fry better (for my liking) in coconut oil. I use olive oil to season meats on the grill. There's absolutely nothing wrong with olive oil, imo.
  10. Looks good. I'll bring the rib roast.
  11. Yeah, but did you cook that? It also stretches the snacks requested above. Looks good, though.
  12. Oh, you want bacon! I can do bacon. That's a fatty. Sage sausage rolled around bacon and scallions. There was also cheese in this one. And then there was the bacon weave on the outside. It was smoked over apple wood.
  13. To what end? Not permanently, correct?Someone has been talking to me about reducing my carbs, which I don't think is too high right now. She keeps talking to me about keto sticks. Today: 4 eggs, 4 strips of bacon, about 6 oz. of pulled pork, ~1# tri-tip, 1+ cup of butternut squash. Some days I have more vegetables than this, but not too much. I would eat dates if I could limit them to 10 . . . but I wouldn't. Whenever I have dates, I eat them all until they're gone. Now I don't keep dates onhand.
  14. Refined sugar? Didn't you give that up when you went paleo? As for smoking, I can't help, although I was addicted to nicotine. I can tell you it was 3 August 2001 when I last enjoyed Copenhagen. More than a decade later, I still have nic fits on occasion. I have not given in because I know I would be back to it in a heartbeat. Mind over matter, although since I haven't gotten rid of diet cola yet, I am not in a good position to be preaching.
  15. I just read through this thread. Interesting. Even if I didn't think I was a nerd, after reading all the responses, I found out that I was. Why? books Lots of folks mentioned books. Yeah, I got books. cartography Had I known it was something I could have studied in college, I would have. Who knew? I love maps. That, along with the love of GPS technology, is the reason I got into geocaching more than a decade ago. modems I remember modems. I believe the first modem I used was 300 baud. It seems to me we doubled them up at some point that seemed to increase the throughput. D&D My D&D days were before there were modems. Well, actually, that isn't quite true as the first home computer I connected to was circa 1975. Anyhow, I began creeping back into D&D right before I met my wife. When she showed up, the dungeons were retired. flute I was first chair in fourth grade. Who cares I couldn't (and still can't) read music? My musical career was short-lived. grammar I like teaching grammar. I am on record as saying I could easily teach grammar and mathematics all day long. I battle over word usage; I've purchased textbooks to re-teach myself diagramming sentences; I had a dictionary collection, not to mention I have toyed with writing a few different dictionaries. This stems directly from the fact that the dictionary made an appearance at dinner in my youth. computers I built my own (and for others) computers for years baseball cards I collected for years. I learned statistics from that; a family friend cautioned my mother not to toss my cards when I outgrew them; years later I got back into it again. By the time I sold them, I had enough to purchase a new car; before the Internet, I would calculate batting averages as I ate my Wheaties so I could update my cards pets having a web page My cat had a web page and a column in a newsletter I used to publish monthly; yeah, having a monthly newsletter about yourself is rather nerdy, eh? Monty Python movies I have seen all the Monty Python movies multiple times . . . back in college we used to rent VCRs for the weekend, sign out a room in the arts building and show movies all weekend with our friends. Meaning of Life was a huge hit! I cheer for the underdog when my team isn't playing . . . unless the underdog is the Yankees. There is never a moment I root for them. Standing in Line @ Midnight I purchased the fifth Harry Potter book at midnight when it went on sale (although, I was not in costume); I did the same for when Windows 95 came out OCD That's me. I just finished organizing 85,000+ digital photographs. Each is tagged thoroughly. Now I am working on the ~2,000 books. When I collected baseball cards, I had to finish the series. have owned a hermit crab It seems to me that I have other characteristics that may label me a nerd. played Third Reich for days on end in college . . . with one of my professors I organize things for fun; there's the OCD. completist I can't just do something a little bit. When I traded Grateful Dead tapes, I had to have them all. When I geocached, I had to find them all within my region. It doesn't matter what I do, I have to have it totally completed; I can't leave it incomplete. I enjoy listening to Tom Leherer. I thank my mother for that. I realize that a pocket protector is functional (although I don't actually have one) Used to go see Rocky Horror on a regular basis I recall the Happy Days episode where Potsie was called a nerd but Joanie called him a Dren! I have a MLB.tv account so I can score baseball games. I have designed my own scorecard to that end. I plan my Toastmasters speeches (and other roles) a year in advance.
  16. This is pretty much how I roll too although I don't eat too many salads. When I do, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I don't put lemon on it.
  17. Click on Community > Groups in the menu at the top of the page (the gray stripe).
  18. I'll echo missing the quick eating ability. Sure, when I'm "on", I have food for all occasions. But when work and family obligations are strong and I haven't spent a day preparing for the week and I need a quick meal or a snack, well then that's when McDonald's, the convenience store, the bag of Cheetos would kick in. Of course, those are the sources of how I became fat. This is not really new information for me. More than 20 years ago I kept vegan. It was the same issue then. (Being able to provide an example of a fad from my past makes me wonder if paleo may not just be the current fad. And if it is, perhaps I am more susceptible to trends than I thought I was. This is something for me to consider. Hmmm . . . ) For me, it is all about being prepared. I can't just have some almonds (or other snack-type food) handy for those times because I devour them when I don't need them. I just need to be prepared and avoid the situation. Should it arise anyhow, I need to deal with it the best I can (recognizing that an almond Snickers bar is not acceptable under any circumstance).
  19. When I click on What's New? I receive a list of new forum posts. I also see your article in that list. I imagine it will show all new articles once there are others. It would be nice to see new blogs listed in this list. This would provide one-stop shopping, as it were, for all the community activity.
  20. I don't usually. I may have when I roasted them. I am also planning on making a hash with sweet potatoes soon. If/when I do, I will peel them. When I grill them, I do not peel them. HTH.
  21. Sweet Potato Chips Sweet Potato Fries Sweet Potato Slices Served like a baked potato Roasted along with butternut squash Caribbean Chicken (not paleo) Sweet potato mush Growing up I eschewed sweet potatoes and yams. Then again, I eschewed pretty much all vegetables save raw carrots. When my daughter came along, her first food was sweet potatoes. That's her above. My wife and I made a concerted effort to add sweet potatoes to our diets since our child was eating them. We found out that we like them. Go figure. I like them baked (or on the cool part of the grill while I am grilling a steak). When time is shorter, I slice them into slices (d'oh!) or fries. They cook faster that way. I have baked them as chips (sliced thinly with a mandolin). We haven't been eating as many sweet potatoes since I have read differing opinions as to the paleo-ness of the food. We do have some sitting here. Perhaps I will grill some for dinner this evening. Thanks for the idea!
  22. I like these a lot. I smoke mine. Heaven!
  23. It's Monday: I'm Going to Crush This Week During the summer I created my schedule. On it, Mondays was to be a workout day with my buddy. It hasn't turned out that way. Since school began again, only on Columbus Day did the two of us make it to the gym together on Monday. Not getting to the gym on Monday was a contributing factor to failing the last challenge. Wanting to correct that this time around, I made certain I got to the gym today. Of course, I messed it up. I arranged to go immediately after work with my buddy. My thinking was that I could get in and out and home before my lovely bride took off for her workout at 5:30. Since DD has dance, I thought this would be splendid. After arrangements were made, I was reminded that I was suppose to pick up DD from dance. Ahhhh . . . dang! Anyhow, next week will be different. While I got to the gym and got a quick workout in, my buddy didn't show. Something came up on his end. And given the time my lovely bride arrived home from my daughter's dance class, she was certain to be tardy to her workout. I am certain next Monday will be different; I'll most likely have to work out late, after the children and wife arrive home. Still working out the kinks of the schedule two months in . . . Squats: bar-10, bar-10, 65-10, 95-5, 115-5, 135-5, 115-10 Deadlifts: 135-10, 185-10, 225-5, 245-1, 255-1 (PR), 265-1 (PR) Medicine Ball Slam (15 lb.): 20, 20, 20 Third workout of the week and we're only on Monday. Yowza!
