  1. I got sick with a really awful respiratory infection right around the time my sister showed me this website - not the time to start an exercise routine. I had about a week where my movement was severely limited by my complete inability to breathe normally. But since today, I managed my first out-of-the-house excursion without major coughing upset, my wife helped me start with some small exercises tonight! *lots of range of motion circle exercises (head, shoulders, arms, torso, hips, feet) *lunge stretches Getting my heartrate up at all still triggers major coughing fits, but at least I was moving! In fact, it felt so good I wanted to celebrate by trying my "I'm awesome" exercise - a kind of squat-kick thing she learned in her dojo while she was studying abroad that I can handily beat her at despite being sedentary and significantly more overweight. I am still better than her at it! But I couldn't really do a full set without coughing too much, so that was more for the celebration than the exercise. :-) Now for reward sex (which is also more moving than I could accomplish while sick. Yay!)
  2. Hello my fellow nerds! I am a female-type, 24-year-old "hobbit" type person (slightly broader than not... just sort of a "wide hips" build). I am 5'8" and weigh around 220 lbs. I have some challenges facing me on the road to fitness... depression, asthma, and nerve damage in my hands all complicate the kinds of exercise I can do. I decided I wanted to become a fitness rebel because I am not sure I'll be able to do something I very much want to do unless I am healthier - I'm not sure I'll be fertile enough to have kids unless I kick around some lifestyle changes. SO. Given the strange direction of my motivation + my own personal attitude towards fitness, I think I'm probably going to be a druid. My current goals, based on the advice in my lesbian pregnancy and conception book: 1) Lose at least 20 pounds. 2) Switch to organic dairy and meat products. I know I need other goals too, but these are the only ones I've really quantified so far. I hope I'll find a good supportive place here. I'm kind of scared. I haven't actively worked on being fit since I was 15 or so. Here goes!
  3. Hi! I think the Paleo diet won't work for me either, but that's okay, honestly. Making small changes in your diet first is still a big step. It's nice to meet you too :-)
