  1. Wow, time has flown. I hit a rough patch last weekend and eat pretty badly for 2 days. Other than that, the challenge went well. I sustained the streak and am looking forward to a day off. Meditation went great. I plan to add an additional 10 minutes to each day, most likely a second session in the evenings as opposed to lengthening the morning routine. Hope everyone had a great time! Thanks for the support and encouragement! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. Today is the 17th, and I have successfully completed 17 days of running. I am feeling good physically, but still kicking myself every time I don't get up early then have to fit it into the rest on the day. I am abandoning heart rate training after one week. It is just taking way too much time to get my weekly miles completed. Secondly, I am doing very well with my 10 minute meditations. I definitely prefer the early am sessions over later when the rest of my family is awake. And finally. Primal eating and no sugar. The primal part is fine but no sugar went out the window on Friday night. I just fell apart, then felt like crap about it on Saturday morning. Nevertheless, I got back on the proverbial horse and have been doing okay without any more sugar cravings. I am looking forward to the upcoming week and optimistic about meeting my challenges. 3. Thanks soon much! I am making this tomorrow. It's my birthday so something chocolate is definitely in order. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. You should try it, it is not advanced at all. The hardest part is having to slow down when your legs want to cut loose! It has been an enlightening experience. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  12. Thanks! Before this week, I was averaging 6 miles/day. But because I am streaking, I (excuse the cliche) listen to my body so that I don't get injured. Run slow when I need to; run fast when it's natural; run long on Sunday's or if I have the time and the energy. I did not discuss my long-term goals for the year at the beginning of this challenge, but I am very motivated to get do more than the minimum most days. I recently read Mark Sisson's book on primal endurance and this week I have been running at 75% max heart rate only. This is very, very slow compared to my normal base pace. So now it is taking significantly longer to get my runs done. My numbers are therefore down this week, but I can make time over the weekend. Best thing about Heart Rate Training is that the heart will tell you when you are still tired from the previous workout/restless night/ etc. Other updates: Primal eating/ no sugar is still enforced. I just wish the chocolate cravings would cease once and for all. I am getting more used to the guided meditation. I am continuing to do it every day after my runs but before getting the rest of my day started. I realized the other day that I might be making this meditation thing harder than it really is. When I first started running, I would count my breaths (4 steps inhale, 4 steps exhale) whenever I starting feeling bad. Or I would focus on the sound of my footfalls in symphony with the beating of my heart. Both of those techniques are exactly the same as sitting meditation but without the running part. I mastered those a long time ago. So maybe I need to try a more positive attitude toward my meditation practice. I am feeling pretty optimistic. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. Goal 1 No sugar, eat primal: The real test came on Sunday after my weekly long(ish) run with my training partner. This run always ends at Starbucks. While I am usually pretty good at getting a lower-calorie (read- low sugar) coffee, I was a bit worried about how strong my resolve would be after finishing the run. And I was not looking forward to the exasperated feedback I would get if I ordered a hot tea. My fears were for naught, I get a plain espresso drink with no added syrups or whipped cream and managed to maintain my street cred. Running streak- Eleven straight days of running and still feeling strong. However, I realized a little late that I need to add some other movements to my days to protect against injury. Will rectify this deficiency this week. Meditation- Still sitting for 10 minutes each day. I tried the new guided meditation series and was not really thrilled with it. The lady talks the whole time. Problem is that I have no problem tuning out talking. It's so easy, I don't have to think about it. So yeah, I think I focus better in silence. But that was just the first day. I will hang in there for the duration. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. So sorry that the job did not pan out the way you hoped. But it sounds as if you have made peace with the situation and have a solid game plan for moving forward. Best of luck! I think something better is on the horizon. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  15. I am in awe of you. I can barely do 25 yards of...any stroke.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. I am loving this listing accomplishments format! Awesome! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. Scott Jurek is vegan, Dean Karnazes is paleo. Both are older men and kick butt at ultras. Just goes to show that everyone has to find what works for them. Great work on being mindful of your thoughts, Bee! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. I think you are partially correct. One day this week, I ran first and meditated about 10 minutes after---no knot in chest. When I meditate first then run---knot. So, it is definitely muscular tension that I might consider stretching as you described. But it does not seem to be directly associated with running. Thanks for the tip; I will try those stretches tomorrow morning. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  19. Eat primal/ no sugar- going very well! I have reached the point that I don't feel hungry much, but I still crave chocolate in the evenings. I am seeing the results of my effort on the scale, so I just need to hang in there. Running streak- The streak is alive and my legs feel strong. Other than the struggle to get out of bed, this one is the 2nd easiest of my three goals. I am considering signing up for some races in the near future to help keep the momentum going. Meditate Daily- This is the easiest--sitting for 10 minutes. That is not to say that the focus is easy. I signed up for a guided meditation series to help, and I am encouraged. 22. Sounds like you are off to a great start! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  23. Great goals, especially the 10-minute clean! I would love to hear more about your meal plans for meeting those macros. Getting good protein that is not processed (bars/ powders) has been hard for me. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  24. Those are some great goals! Best of luck! Question: did you find the paleo diet to be helpful or a hindrance to your endurance training? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
