  1. I don't think s.. I just joined a couple days ago xD
  2. Thank you SilverRapier! No, not really. I don't need someone else telling mewhat my body can and can't handle. I am special anyways, without a colon things process so much differently. I technically wouldn't be allergic to it but I wouldn't be able to process it nontheless. It's like blueberries. I loved blueberries. But when I had my surgeries eating blueberries became a guaranteed day of cramps and intestinal unhappiness, to put it mildly. Still not allergic to them, but I stay away from blueberries like they are the plauge. Then again, my husband is going paleo with me and he does have a colon but had terrible repercussions from wheat when he ate some girlscout cookies. So who knows, but stil. I have enough to deal with without someone telling me something I already know lol. I am really doing far better than I thoughf I was going to on that front. I think I am going to bump it up to one meal every other day so I can keep eliminating the whites from my diet. I have, however, developed something of a reliance on dark chocolate that really needs to change.
  3. I think you both are right, thank you for the advice. I graded my day as N/A for the workout because of my sickness. Yesterday I wasn't really feeling up to snuff either because it interrupted my sleep schedule and so I gave that day a 50 % because I could have done something just not the entire run but i didn't thus, 50 %. I really appreciate the help. Sometimes I get too hard on myself out of the fear that I am too easy on myself. It helps having others to help put things in perspective RIGHT, I'm Ele or Lady, or Eleventy, or really whatever, I'll answer to about anything. I live in Phoenix Arizona for the moment, though I spent 2 years in Flagstaff at NAU until I moved back here in September because I lost my job, changed my major and are waiting on Army approval to go live in South Korea with my awesome husband. We got married on the 8th of November, after he got his orders so now I have to wait to see if his commanders will let me come over. It's complicated and yeah, the Army. ANYWAY! I am a HUGE crafter. I like to paint, draw, design tattoos, sculpt, and now I scrapbook! Seriously, crafting is such a huge part of my life, it's ridiculous. Oh, I also love to read anything from Elizabeth Peters to Shakespeare and I don't have a colon. (Lotr, HP, encyclopedia's, fan fiction, the works) I am a baby paleo so I don't eat the following: Wheat products, rice, white potatoes, most beans, and milk (though I still eat cheese because I am a baby and I like my cheese) However, I do allow myself one meal a day that has ONE of these products in it because I am still adjusting. At the 3 week mark in my current challenge (which you can find via the link in my signature) I am going to lessen that to one meal every other day with one product in it. Though already my body has showed significant signs that even moderate amounts of wheat products are no longer welcome. So I try to stay away from those as much as possible. As far as exercise is concerned, I am a big fan of strength training, swimming, and yoga. Also, anything outside is always lovely. That being said, though I have never liked running, I really want to learn parkour because it's my dream to become an assassin. So I am trying to learn to like running. It's not really working, but I shall not give up. On a nerdy video game side note, I love Assassins Creed, Injustice (seriously, I went apeshit because I totally got to kick as with Wonder Woman, it's great), Fall Out, Mario Cart, and Battlefield. I was never really into gaming until I met Timothy 2 years past, so if you have any game suggestions, I am so very open to them

  5. Question, I am trying to determine whether or not my yesterday should actually count toward my overall challenge and here is why. I don't have a colon because of reasons that are long winded and thus are super sensitive to foods. As per my challenge rules that state that I am allowed to have one non-paleo meal a day, I had flour tortilla chips with some spinach dip before my paleo meal. Well I had never had trouble with chips before but recently I have been having adverse reactions to white flour products due to my abstention from them as of late, though generally mild. However, when I got home my super sensitive insides were rather livid with me. I thought nothing of it but later I had to skip dinner and lay down due to this discomfort and cramping. I usually do my strength training at night, and I had to miss it because of my insides being rather unhappy with my food choices. Now, I cannot decide whether I should grade my day with my water, steps, and other accomplishments and leave out the workout grade, grade it completely and give a zero in the work out area, or just simply omit the day entirely. Any opinion on the matter would be greatly appreciated
  6. I have never paid 600 for my text books ever! But then again, half the time I don't buy them because I can get the information needed in articles in the library and during lecture. I swear, most of the professors don't even USE the books, I think they think they do, but they really don't. If you pay attention in class then you never need read for the most part. BUT that's just me. I swear, COLLEGE IS A TRAP. Hehe, Thank you!
  7. attaboy! I feel like we need a mini parade for this. Congratulations!
  8. Geh, I swear, they charge us an arm and a leg for tuition then get the other two limbs in books and interest on the loans they give us to cover it. I can get most of mine online for cheap but there's always that ONE book that never gets cheaper than 100 bucks. Can't even get the older editions either for that one, drives me crazy. What's worse is that is the price of the Ebook verison! THERE IS NO PRODUCTION COST TO EBOOKS IT'S PURE PROFIT. I do indeed share your pain, my dear. Us Uni kids got to stick together. Yeah, I should have graduated last semester but I changed my major 3 times so I get an extra semester. then again, I finished it in 3 years so I think I am okay. I hate their scheduling, it's like, you need this one class to graduate but they only offer it every two years or every other semester just to get you to pay extra, money suck vampires, the lot of them! Sorry, I am kind of really angry at them at the moment because when I switched to online WITH THE SAME INSTITUTION so I could finish my degree in Korea with my husband, they decided I didn't need fin aid because my parents were paying for it, like they never have been able to do before. Also, because I got married in November and not in August, they can't change my fafsfa to independent student. So my hubby and I have to pay ALL of my almost 4,000 dollar tuition out of our own pockets. AND I AM DONE RANTING, I swear. *faints* Thank you, I am trying to make sure that I balance everything and realize the real changes I am making in my life and nutrition.
  9. It is super hard to eat out, I have been going to waffle house since I was born and now the I can only get a pile of meat and omelette because everything else is carbs! lol, butI must find an Asian buffet then! There's this place by my house that's called the Gengis Grill and is Mongolian stir-fry that's pretty good. Though I think getting Asian food will be easier if I get clearance to go to Korea to live with the hubby xD On a side note, short people are awesome (5' 4'' 1/2 here), as Helena once said in Midsummer Night's Dream "Though she be but little, she is fierce!"
  10. I know that feel bro, my family is southern and it there's one thing that they love it's their starches. Trying to change diet in my house is almost comparable to changing religion (I did that too but that's a different story), it's the end of the world if you are not eating the baked ziti or the potatoes with your steak, and if you avoid those hasbrowns, well, you don't even want to know. It is really hard for them to understand why I do the things I do, they generally attribute it to a fad diet and give me shit about it so I quit. But this time, I went ot a damn nutritionist just to prove that I was doing the right thing for my body and they are finally listening. Though their acceptance is kind of like a child accepting that they have to take cough medicine. What really makes it easier for them is that when they do make dinner or breakfast, I ask if they can make little adjustments for me. Like my mother makes this enchilada bake with tortillas and stuff for the layers, I asked if she could make a part of it without it. It turned out kind of like soup but it tasted damn good and had no glueten or anything in it. In my family, the trick is not to be too special and try making your need for accommodation easier on them. Gentle suggestions make healthier options and aren't really saying "no" to family, just "Yes please, but without the bread" BUT that's just me.

  12. I totally just found this on a thread in the yoga section and It really got me thinking about my practice and I thought it really belonged here.
  13. Whooohooo! look at you go! Seems like you've already taken the first steps to a better you. Congratulations and welcome to Nerd Fitness!
  14. Hi, I saw the title of this group and could not help myself, I had to join. I'm all signed up and everything. I didn't even know that these things existed but it seems like a great way to get accountable so here I am. You have my paintbrush!
  15. First off, hi! Second my husband just recently bought my Civ 5 and my inner historian loves it but being Attila the Hun's neighbor is a nightmare! It's great that you kept going even in the face of injury. It really shows what kind of grit you have, even if you've failed before (which, believe me, we all have) now is the time for true change and you've already started! Welcome to Nerd Fitness (Monopoly totally counts as nerd by the way, hehe) Look forward to seeing how you do on your challenge, it's my first official one as well
  16. And here I thought wondering in the woods during the day was safer than wondering the streets at night O.o
  17. I have bad wrists and borderline carpal tunnel from a fight with frost nip and are so in love with yoga it's crazy. Though not as bad as yours, I too have issues with too much weight put on the wrists. When my wrists flare up I try to do my own practice of standing poses that don't have much hand movements (warrior, chair, tree etc). I also wear my hand brace when I do these just in case I twist them wrong during warrior or something. These are just my personal adjustments, but as QoB said, if at all possible, going to a highly experienced instructor for help is a fantastic way of figuring out a practice for when your wrists flare up. Most yogis are really friendly and more than happy to work with students with their injuries or conditions.
  18. Hia there. Most of what I have to say has been already said, though I do have about 15 cents worth of extra gooey info so here. *shoves information forward* I battled depression for about psh, six or seven years due to surgeries and dream crushing etc. Not going into that because it's a really long story but ANYHOW. I don't have a colon (part of that really long story) so I don't get enough vitamins on a normal diet, especially vitamin B which super effects moods. I have been doing significantly better since Timothy, my now husband, came into my life, but still have boughs with it. I find that taking vitamin B complex supplements as well as D and C and getting a good amount of sun a day really helps keep out the bad. Also, diet can have a dramatic impact though withdrawal can be a royal pain in the ass, let me tell you. I am going through it still but I gave up starches and carbs last week and had moodswings that would make day and night look the same. I cried when I watched the Lorax and was an inch away from stabbing my sisters phone with a knife if it vibrated one more time (I am being serious, I was having pork for dinner and had the knife in my hand and everything). So the withdrawal can make it seem like giving all of these shit things up is not even worth it, but once you get out of the woods, you can really feel the difference. I know that even though i am not completely out yet, I see the light and the symptoms are lessening every day and I feel SO much better. Hope that helps a little. Best of luck, ffriend
  19. Wow, there are some seriously good replies here. Thank you all for your advice! I really appreciate it because recently I have had to explain to quite a few people (My new nutritionist, people on the forum etc) about my my body is being weird and it has been weird trying to explain it. But reading all of these replies really makes it seem so easy to be able to talk about it without stigmata. Thank you!
  20. Honestly, failing is sometimes a good thing (I failed my friday). It helps us awaken to things that may need to change in our behavior or in out goals, whichever. Keep up the fight, you can do it!
  21. Hi,hi, hi! Welcome to NF! Getting off blood pressure meds, now there is a goal if I ever heard one. I hope NF is just the place you need to find your fitness destiny, I know that it was the Gandalf of my story. Welcome to the family, Senie! I look forward to seeing how you do with your challenge! (in a totally non-creepy way xD) We noobs got to stick together ;D
  22. Whoooohooo! Hia there and welcome! Weightlifting, huh? That sounds like a great plan, keep us posted on your progress and welcome again to Nerd Fitness!
  23. Welcome friend! I'm Ele and I made the change to Paleo last week and let me tell you, it really has made such a difference for me. Right now, I still eat moderate amounts of dairy (cheese and Greek yogurt mostly I don't drink much milk or anything) and allow myself one meal a day that I can have carbs at. Generally, I don't have any carbs but it's good starting out not just to go cold turkey, or at least it is for me, so that the changes can be made over time and be maintained. Sometimes giving up everything at once can be overwhelming and can cause relapse, especially once you hit carb withdrawal (yes, there is such a thing). I have been suffering from the withdrawal for about a week and I think it's almost gone but for that week I had the craziest mood swings. It effects people differently, some just get a bit tired and others (like me) need some chocolate to stabilize the sugar drops to prevent serious swings. As far as the meals go, there is a lovely recipe section of the forums here. I also own a cookbook called The Paleo Diet that has some AWESOME recipes. I also recommend cooking in bulk because it takes some time to cook paleo meals and most are not just two step processes. Usually I have an omelette or something of the like for breakfast and then cook lunch and dinner at the same time. It makes life easier. I know some people who do all their weeks cooking on Saturdays and just have left overs for the entire week. It's up to you. recently I have been eating quite few hot salads because they are easy to make and tasty with many flavor variations. It is kind of hard sometimes, not going to lie, but on the plus side, BACON. I hope that helps a little bit. Congrats by the way on quitting, it's a big step and takes a lot of dedication, well done! Welcome again to NF!
  24. Dang girl, look at you go! I may or may not want to steal that meal you posted... ALL OF THE VEGGIES! Seriously though, you are doing freaking great! Keep up the great work!
  25. Wow, thank you guys so much for all of your support! vengefulpear: That super sucks that your shoulder is out of wack :/ I think you have a point there. Lately I have been seeing where exactly my body is and with all the changes I am making diet and exercise wise, I think it is my bodies right to tell me what I can and cannot handle. Listen to the body, it knows the way ^.^ rocky555: Why thank you ^.^ AC is kind of my addiction and it is actually kind of healthy so I figured I could incorporate it in as much as possible, it being my inspiration and all xD SilverRapier: All of the encouragement! Thank you dear! I am going to Dr. Claw some of these goals and get back to them. I think next challenge I will try the swimming one and then the pull up because by then I will have all of the dietary changes under my belt and be strength training regularly. Sometimes I bite off more than I can chew and are too stubborn to see that too much weight will break the camels back. stardust731: Thank you for the encouragement, it really helps keep my motivated.
