  1. Cooked this up and added some king prawns (because they're awesome). Absolutely delicious, thanks for sharing!
  2. Can't speak to the numbers and if they're right as I'm pretty new to this and not a nutrionist; however I may be able to help with a fat source or two: nuts can be good (almonds are a favorite around here) and Steve's infamous apples dipped in almond butter are pretty good for adding more natural fat. If you're not trying to loose weight (just get stronger), slightly more fruit might be an option (depending on how much you eat already). I'm sure others can elaborate and offer more experienced advice, but I thought I'd kick it off.
  3. Just got to trying white tea, significant improvement over green for me, with or without (non-dairy) milk. However in the interest of science I shall revisit both in the next few weeks sans the lemon "flavour" that makes it smell like a cleaning product. As for the anti-oxidants, I'll take the risk, I'll never surrender tea!
  4. Lots of those that eat paleo seem to consume a fair amount of chicken breasts, and especially when bulk cooked for a couple of days they can be become dry and a bit less that ideal. Yesterday I set out to fix that problem! Oven: Preheat to 190°C (375°F) Ingredients: * Chicken breasts * Peanut butter (bonus points for crunchy variety) Recipe: Slice each chicken breast as if in half, without going all the way through If it's a big piece of chicken, maybe do the same to the two sides from within the first incision Smear 1 or 2 teaspoons of peanut butter into the opening Fold the chicken back together Wrap each breast in tin foil so hold it together Place your tin foil burritos on a baking tray Whack them in the oven for 35-40 minutes Et voila! Personally I then take a leaf out of spezzy's book and chop them into 2-3oz pieces, wrap them up and eat them for lunch of the course of the next week or so. You can probably use almond butter if you fancied it, but I found peanut works a bit better as it's more viscous and decidedly cheaper!
  5. Never been a fan of herbal teas, in my world at least tea should taste like tea! Also apparently herbal teas aren't the same as proper tea (i.e. from a Tea plant) and as a result lacks the antioxidant found in real tea. ;( Funnily enough moving from cow to soya was easy since skimmed milk was like water and soya has plenty of delicious fat in it. Definite upgrade. I'll certainly finish the almond milk I have (can't really afford not to!) and see if it grows on me. If not I'll summon up some double cream and report back!
  6. Thanks for the encouragement guys! Hopefully my next w00t will be in the not too distant future when I reach my first milestone target!
  7. Managed to get a hold of some almond milk. It tastes ... acceptable in tea, but doesn't half look weird (like tissue paper has been dropped in it and broken apart). Not sure I'll stick with it as my wallet has severe reservations due to the taste/price ratio. Guess I'll try heavy cream next; pasteurised because raw is all but unavailable. As an aside; tried the almond butter, stuff is awesome!
  8. Background: Started Paleo and (body weight) strength training last Wednesday. Today was weigh day, and for the first time in about 5 years, my weight is down! Since the same time last week I'm down 5lb! Finally something that works for me! Time to notch it up; goal for next week drop anything over 5lb!
  9. Knowing that if I keep it up, one day I'll be able to walk on my hands (and balance on one) something I've wanted to be able to do forever. Not for any real reason beside the fact that it would be AWESOME!
  10. That cream idea sounds like an excellent plan for when I'm visiting my folks back home, as they live nowhere near a ... Holland & Barrett, which seems to be the only place in the UK where almond milk can be relatively reliably found. I didn't get there to day but there are several in the area so I'll have a hunt around later in the week. I did find the almond butter in Sainsbury's though, which I'll try out later.
  11. Cheers, good to be here. Hopefully having people hold me accountable for my excuses will keep me on track!
  12. I've tried green tea and I just can't get on board with it; just not a fan. I plan to try a few different teas the near future (white and oolong) and perhaps that will fair better, but failing that I'm definitely intrigued by these almond products. I'd never heard of almond milk or butter before arriving here. I'll have to have a look around the local shops and see if I can't find some to try out. Thanks for the suggestions!
  13. I'm new to paleo and I'm a huge (and I mean huge) fan of tea, I'm British after all; can't let down the stereotype! I stopped drinking cows milk a couple of years ago on the advice of my doctor, and replaced it with unsweetened soya milk. Now browsing through this forum I see: Now you can guess my next question; I know tea is considered more or less borderline, but how do those of you that partake, drink it? I've never been much of a fan of drinking it black ...
  14. While I don't eat my feelings in the traditional sense, I find that pride causes me a lot of strife in the eating department. I have a reputation among friends of being a bit of a food tank, so every time I eat with them I feel an obligation to maintain this image by eating more than I should (and sometimes even more than I want). Equally when I'm feeling particularly good about something and I'm out shopping I fall into the trap of rewarding myself with empty calories, a habit I sorely hope to kick. I need to stop eating too much, and start eating my pride instead! This sounds all too familliar; only it tends to be more when I'm bored than properly down. These days I try to distract myself from food by turning the radio on and dancing for a few songs instead; dancing has always been a bit of a pick-me-up for me. I always end up chewing on stress toys; my last victim was a blue convertible, maybe I can use this to help train myself to avoid eating cupcakes (I've not tried to eat a real convertible of any colour in months!).
