  1. Its not supposed to snow in south alabama.... I didn't make it outside to workout today, but I did what I could inside. I also decided to walk every morning. Today I did a 2.4 mile walk, it was good.
  2. Did my bike intervals today, and got some food for my birthday. Mom knew I was trying to diet so she bought me a bunch of vegetables. (Yet she still brought me a cake lol). I also got some sweat pants a pedometer and a jump rope. It good to be supported! I guess I need to change my signature for my new age. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
  3. You make a very good point...I'm going to dig out kill bill tonight. I should also make some foam swords and fight with the nephew for some fun exercise too. I think I'm inspired! I think part of my problem last week was that I started reading a book series, and I couldn't get away from it. Every time I tried to put it down, I just kept wondering what happens next. So I think I need to put some motivational books into my rotation. At the very least reread some books I enjoy. I can put them down, because I know what happens. I read all four of Brandon Sandersons Mistborn books last week. This week I started the Demonwars saga by R.A. Salvatore, I've read it before, and I know there are some good training scenes in it. So maybe I'll be inspired/motivated by some of that. Thanks for the great response!
  4. So he made it home from school, and we went through our workout. I had to take it a little easier this time since I'd already done it once, and he isn't quite ready to do a full blown workout yet. As cheesy as this may sound, I watched an episode of the biggest loser for motivation.... Well, it worked, so I'm ok with it.
  5. As you may have guessed, last week I failed. I lost all motivation, and couldn't be dragged out of the house. I don't know what brought that on, but its too late to do anything about last week. I did ride the bike twice last week, so it wasn't totally lost, but in my head it is all gone. The only way that I can consider this challenge as passed, I will have to work extra hard these last 3 weeks. Today, I started exercising again, and I'll have to do them again when the kids get home from school. It was tough, I thought I was going to throw up, but didn't. I did a few things different this time. Instead of lunges I did step-ups, and my knees thank me. I had to lower the height of the steps for the last set, but got through them all. It turns out that, because of my belly fat, I can't go all the way down on a pushup. So I used my steps (cinder blocks) to get me a little higher off the ground, and that worked a lot better. I thought I was good at pushups, but now that I can go all the way down, I have to rethink that, lol. Anyways, I feel good now that I've started up again.
  6. Oh, I do have some knee pain today, I think its from the lunges. I'm going to try some step ups next time.
  7. Just checking in. Everything is going as planned, but the BBWW is getting a little boring. Some of the exercises are still a little challenging, but I'm going to start adding weight to the ones that are easy. I promise to go through and look at others progress for this challenge, but I haven't really had the motivation/time. The nephew is doing pretty good, he wants to be an assassin, so we are working on some simple free running/parkour exercises as well as getting his running up to par. This is tough for me since I really can't run. I'm hoping that, once my atrophied muscles in my right leg are strengthened enough, I'll be able to do more running with him. We are starting out slow with fast hikes, with run/sprint intervals. (jog for me since I still limp when running). Since I am slower though, if I pass him, he has to do 10 pushups. Kinda motivates him to keep moving. Best of luck to everyone!
  8. LOL, will do! Did the BBWW today. And I put my nephew through the wringer. I made sure we were both doing everything correctly, and we were swimming in sweat. I think he was close to throwing up at one point. But we both lived!
  9. Thanks for the reply! It looks like the girls quit on me, but my nephew is still going strong. Don't worry, I'm not giving up on them. A t least they are a little more active now! Sorry about the late post, I've been having internet problems. Just to catch up with what I've been doing: Thursday, I missed my bike ride, so I made it up saturday. Its still killing me, but I can make it through the intervals pretty easily now. Friday I started working through the beginner body weight workout a bit faster, I'm at 25 minutes if I am really concentrating on doing everything right. The inverted rows are really awesome, I can feel them quite a bit more than the dumbell rows. Today I was rained out, but we did bike intervals with the trainer, I'll make up the bbww tomorrow, and get back on schedule. Week 1 Number of sodas: 0 Ammount of candy: 1 fun sized kit kat (I gave in, but at least I didn't gorge) Workouts: Every day, I'm having fun with them, and the nephew is keeping me honest
  10. Just checking in on day 3, my arms and legs felt like jello when I got up. Now they are like heavy jello. I did the basic body weight workout twice today. Once for myself, and once with the nephew when he came home from scool. I swapped out the dumbell rows for inverted rows, and they are killer! Nothing new to report really, ran with the kid yesterday a bit, still awkward to limp-run, but there is no pain. Its crazy how I can go for days in pain, but now that I'm actually doing something the pain is practically gone. I'm sore as hell, but I feel great. The ongoing fight with food is a problem, I can't watch tv without seeing it everywhere. I'm not starving myself, I'm eating smaller portions. But I still crave it. This is the first real battle I've had, and its tough.
  11. Did 20 minute intervals with my bike + trainer this morning. Kinda kicked my butt. My legs feel like anchors, they are so heavy. But I can now see muscles in my bad leg that I haven't seen in years!
  12. For the past few weeks I've been working up to this challenge. The first week, I couldn't make it through one set, but the results of today are below. I won't say that I'm not having any difficulties with the beginner body weight workout, but I'm definitely killing it. (lunges being my weakness at this point.) I will post pictures (as disgusted as I am with them) tomorrow. Basic overview Warmup 20 Squats - I can do these pretty well, no troubles here 10 pushups - also no real trouble 20 lunges - its getting easier, I could only do 16 on my last set, but nailed the first two sets. 10 dumbell rows - did 15 rows with a backpack full of programming books, lol (I may change this to inverted rows to get ready for pullups.) 15 second plank - easily made it to 25 seconds first and second set, only hit 20 on last set 30 jumping jacks - easy. Stretch I did not start my walk to mordor today as planned. But I'll use it to warm up tomorrow for my bike intervals. But plans for my advanced body weight workout area are in progress. The biggest thing is getting a pullup bar setup. (The hard way, dig hole, insert 2 - 4x4 posts, drill holes for pipe. This seems to be the easiest way for me atm.) Last year I could do chinups, but I've sat on my butt for too long. I have no idea how I'm going to do now. As far as eating is going, I've definitely limited myself compared to normal. When I get a job and can support myself, I'm going full paleo. For now, its just eat smaller, healthier portions. Question: As I'm exercising, the muscles of my right leg are developing. After each workout, I'm walking straighter with a less noticeable limp. But it doesn't last very long (a few hours tops). With these results, I believe that I will eventually get rid of the limp. My question is, "Is it ok to run with said limp?" My nephew wants to start running (he's doing the challenge with me, and one of his goals is to be able to run a mile without stopping), but I can barely do it. Its not knee pain, like I had feared. It is the limping gait that is extremely pronounced when I run.
  13. Hello everyone! This is my first challenge, and my first post. I'm really excited about getting my life back into balance. For far too long its been totally out of whack. I'd have to say it started in 2008 when I had a giant celled tumor removed from my knee. Since then I've been motivationless, and lazy. That however is in the past, and I'm only looking to the future. I stumbled upon nerd fitness a few weeks ago, and have been more active than ever (except for when I was in the military, but that was ages ago). Main Quest To lose weight and build muscle. I've never seen myself with a flat stomach. I've often wondered if it was even possible. With this challenge, I take the first steps to realizing this goal. I am entering as a fat goblin. Who knows what will walk out? Do the beginner bodyweight workout at least 3 times a week. ( Can't fight dragons before I pick up my first spear. ) Limit the amount of food I eat. ( Goblins eat often, and they eat anything. ) Ride my bike for at least 20 minutes, at least twice a week. ( Dragon riding is fun! ) Side Quests Get setup for the advanced bodyweight workout. ( I can see the BBWW working already, I'll need to be ready to level up ) Keep my water bottle filled and drink mostly from it. ( Get rid of all the grog (soda) ) Get the nieces and nephews to workout with me. ( Motivation ) Begin my Walk to Mordor ( I heard they were hiring at Mt. Doom. ) Life Quest Find a job. (Even goblins got to get paid!) Motivation “If you keep doing what you've always done, you will keep on getting what you've always got.†Its time to stop dreaming about having super powers, and develope some of my own.
