  1. Wow! Awesome job, Red! I look forward to following you. Damn good inspiration. I suspect we'll be seeing pretty close to 100 by the end of the 6 weeks. Glad to hear that you were able to turn around the spiral day. Those always seem to get me. Woot Woot!!
  2. I'm super jealous of the chin & pull ups. I can typically squeeze out one. That's going to be a big goal for my next challenge. You should call up the spirit of John Snow when you hit the road!
  3. RAH! Nailed it today! Ate well, no grains, tons of veggies, some fruit, the only sugars were in my favorite hot sauce and I used very little. Also, I finished 8 Intervals in my cardio for the first time. It was the best cardio I've had in a gym in over a year. Yesterday hit up strength training 4 sets each, alternating. Squats (with the big bar for the first time ever... even added 20 lbs by the end) Straight-leg deadlifts, incline dumbbell press, dumbbell rows, mountain climbers (3 sets of 50)
  4. Sweet, what a great resource. Thanks, ck! Signing up now.
  5. Monday went swell! I'm getting the new job schedule down. That's helping a lot. Has a really great strength workout and eating was spot on. Thanks for all of the support everyone! Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  6. Nice job! Keep up the work! And get out there a grab a dragon tail riding your beast! Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  7. Hey guys! First week was at about 50% of goals, but that's why they are goals! This week is off to a great start. Hope my meatless buddies are rocking and rolling too! New work schedule is definitely helping!! I've also added an egg a day to help replace some of the huge amounts of tofu I've been eating. And trying 1 week without grains just to see how I move and feel. I'll keep ya posted! Anyone else attempting no or few grains? How's it going? Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  8. Hey man. Glad to hear everything is off to a stellar start! Let's kick Monday's ass! Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  9. Hey man... just getting caught up on your progress. Sounds like a damn good choice for a Quest. Looking forward to following along, man!
  10. Very good idea, man! I'm definitely following this thread. I've been vegetarian for about 7 years. Working on subbing out my grains and legumes with some better options. Looking forward to staying in touch with other meatfree pals!
  11. Good info! I'm working on altering my diet. My partner is vegan and I'm vegetarian. We are working on removing soy/grains/carbs
  12. How's it going, mate? How was eating this week?
  13. What's up DD? Congrats on getting out and about more, man! That's a great accomplishment. I have committed to start taking veggies to my desk. Putting carrots and celery in a zip lock bag. Then, when the bag is empty... I've had a really good serving of good food where I would have had grains and sugar. Keep it going, mate! Let's all move more!
  14. I really like the goal of not to binge! I used to love grabbing a pint of ben and jerry's from the market next to my house and eat IT ALL! No more! New beginnings! GO GET 'EM!
  15. Hey there crew :@) What a week! Brand new job and trying to find my new routines. (I pretend I hate them, but really I love a good routine). So, let's give me my week one grades! Measurements are updated. Not surprisingly, nothing really changed. I didn't do great this week, but it was a pretty grand start. Main Quest Navel maintains at 37" Goals Decrease carb grain intake to 1 serving per day: C After reading NF and reviewing the forums so much, I've made GREAT steps in this. From grains with every single meal (and usually snacks that included grains between meals) to actually hitting 2 days this week with 1 serving. WOAH! This week is going to be the double down week. I'm getting to new my new colleagues and they have taken me out to lunch multiple times this week. 1 time out I did pretty well, 1 lunch out was a FAIL! Workout: F I underestimated what my lazy ass had grown accustomed to in the last 3 weeks. I made it to the gym 3X this week. 2 S and 1 I. Strength: -Left the gym way sweatier than I ever have before - NF warmup (wow, it really gets things rolling!) -NF Strength (full body, balance) -1 day: lower weight with 10-12 reps -1 day: much higher weight with 5-8 reps Interval: -30 sec increasing intervals with -2 min regular pace -This is the first time I've ever done full on interval and it kicked my ass in all the right ways!! Soda Stop: F Again, this is the firs week. I went from 3-4 sodas a day to 5 sodas throughout the week. Woo hoo! Alright guys! I've got a pretty good start to my Quest. Next week, we'll make sure some of these grades get out of failing
  16. So, We're off to a good start! I have cut my grains and starches in about half. Found tons of great vegetarian recipes that do not focus on a bed of ride or veggies on a roll. I did the NF strength workout yesterday complete with dynamic warm up. Here's to keeping this up! I'll make sure and report my progress. I added my weight to my stats. Here we go!
  17. Really nice, achievable missions to add up to the quest goal. This is definitely doable! Bring it on!
  18. Hey man... great to see. I'm also vegetarian and am not sure if I could pull of the full paleo diet. Although, I have to say... the reasoning does sound right on. I am going to try to limit my grain consumption though. Right now, most of my meals are half grains and half veggies. Needless to say, I can do better. Let me know what kind of meals are working for you. I'm collecting a bunch of "closer" to paleo vegetarian meals to try in Evernote. Us veggies have got to stick together
  19. Awesome, man! Stellar overall goal. Sounds like a really great personal Quest. I look forward to following along.
  20. Hey mate... Sounds like you're off to a great start already. I'm jumping back in the game tomorrow. I love the "don't cook frozen crap" strategy! Let's do it.
  21. 50 lbs is a huge accomplishment... Don't let anyone tell you it's not enough! It's all about healthier and happier, right? That's what I'm aiming for! Sounds like you have some great first set of goals. I'm a vegetarian and my fella is a vegan, so we have naturally gone carb-crazy!! I'm with you on getting down to 1 grain a day by the end of the challenge!
  22. Awesome, man! Sounds like a great way to get the year started off right! Looking forward to following each other thru our first challenge!
  23. Backstory I've been working on my fitness and health levels for about a year now. I've dropped over 20 lbs from my heaviest (185) to now (160ish). I'm a nerd at heart, working on my dissertation (sometimes) and working in health and health policy (mostly). Before the Holidays went crazy, I was regularly going to the gym 5 days a week and working out for 45min- 1hr. I was getting stronger and looking a little better. However, I wasn't giving the workouts my all. I go to a pretty busy gym and would do whatever was available. I started with 80% free weights, but by the end of December, I was doing 80% weight machines. I've spent over a week reading like crazy on NF and you guys seem like my workout soulmates! Woo hoo! After reading the 13 mistakes, I found myself. I'm an emotional rationalizer. I take the ER route for EVERYTHING... spending, jobs, working out, eating right, you name it! I hope to find my super hero during this quest. The idea of transforming into my hero before even walking into the gym... Done! Plus, I wouldn't mind looking decent in a costume. My measurements. I'll try to keep this updated. Starting pic My Reason: I'm marrying the love my of my life Aug 31. And, I can do better and should look better! Strategy I'm starting a new job Jan 6. I'll be starting a new gym too. My gym has multiple locations throughout the District and I'll be moving to a gym right around the corner from my office. No more weight machines My weaknesses: (1) not working out hard enough and (2) not maintaining a solid, healthy, natural diet. Main Quest Lose 2" off navel measurement, maintain weight. Goals Decrease carb intake to 1 serving per day Grades A: 1 serving of carbs per day for a week B: 1 serving of carbs for 6/7 days C: 1 serving of carbs for 5/7 days D: 1 serving of carbs for 4/7 days F: 1 serving of carbs for 3/7 days Modify workout to 3 days body weight strength (S) & 2 days Interval (I) Training per week Grades A: Completed 5 day workout: 3S and 2I and finished with a wet shirt each day B: Completed 5 day workout: 3S and 2I and half assed it only 1 day C: Completed 4 day workout and finished with a wet shirt each day D: Skipping this letter F: Missed more than 1 day or half assed it more than 1 day Stop drinking soda Grades A: 0 sodas in 7 days B: 1 soda in 7 days C: 2 sodas in 7 days D: 3 sodas in 7 days F: 4 sodas in 7 days Life Side Quest Start new job and maintain a regular schedule Grades A: Get an avg of 8 hours of sleep, wake up at a consistent time, go to bed at a consistent time B: Get an avg of 8 hours of sleep, wake and sleep at mostly a consistent time C: Get less than 8 hours of sleep, wake and sleep at mostly a consistent time D: Sometimes get 8 hours of sleep and sometimes wake and sleep at a consistent time F: Get less than 8 hours and rarely wake and sleep at a consistent time
