  1. Weight 245.2 lbs this morning. Worked 7 until 5 then hit some weights when I got in doing a strong shoulder session. Drafted this plan and listed to 1.5 hrs audio book today, been listening to Extreme Ownership by jocko willink.
  2. Hey guys, So my last challenge was derailed thanks to a nasty knee injury. I'm at present coping with a suspect acl tear and awaiting the results of an mri. I love a themed challenged so this one's going to be punisher themed. My goals for this challenge. 1/ Get the physique. Punisher has to take on superhumans and to do that he needs to be in top notch shape and cope with brutal injuries without quiting. -get weight to below 237lbs. This will be done by tracking on my fitness pal - workout 3x per week, I can't do any leg stuff at all currently, so I'm doing a back/chest/shoulders split. 2/ Get the tactical mindset. - listen to an average of half an hours audio book each day, either on the way to work or elsewhere - I'm an investigator through work and there's a level above me, I can't apply for it yet as you need 3 years experiance to sit the evam. I was able to pick up a workbook for the exam so my goal is to work through this to get me ready. Goal is to complete a chapter a week. 3/ Nothing without the plan. Due to the lack of abilities punisher must plan well ahead. I'm getting married later this year and everything's coming together. This part is to finish off all the arrangements and get the money paid off and arrangements confirmed. Shouldn't be much to do for this.
  3. Recovery is going well. I've cleaned up my diet and still awaiting some results. Feeling better though.
  4. Had my mri today. 2 weeks until I hear back. Trainings been going pretty poorly and diet has been OK but not great.
  5. Managed a back workout Monday and going to try and hit chest today. Got a meeting with a consultant next week to sort out scans and possibly surgery.
  6. I do not, but that would be fun, I do government work. And works been OK Im office based for now can't go out and about for health and safety reasons.
  7. Quick update guys. I've been back to work last 2 days. I'm almost 7lbs down since last Thursday and have only really been on this new health kick since Monday. Currently 243.8 hoping to be around 240 by this time next week. Diets going great. Hit 3 weight sessions this week and have done loads of walking as physio. The injury has motivated me it would seem. Feel unstoppable, unless I have to move quickly. Then I'm uselessly haha
  8. Appreciate the support. Acl injuries suck but I'll get passed it. On the good side I just finished a solid back and biceps bodybuilding style workout and I've done more walking today than since I injured it. It hurts but I've been told by them that's normal as it needs to build strength and free up. Got training planned the rest of the week and spoken to work. I also let my coach know who is gutted about the whole thing.
  9. Yeah that's my thinking. Is it a little on the nose to do a dark Knight rises theme. Haha he got a swanky new knee(brace) although I may save that for post surgery.
  10. Well d-day arrived and with it came a bit of a shit storm. Positive side, I'm off my crutches. Negative, I appear to have mislaid my acl.... Physio thinks it's gone. Which is 9 months without contact and surgery if I ever want to play contact sports again. I have a physical job and will need that ACL and therefore the surgery. Getting an Mri booked to confirm diagnosis.. But I'm not going to be negative. I've came up with a an upper body only training regime and some walking to hit the leg. I'm going to be getting physio. I also cleaned up my diet this l as t week and dropped from 250 to 246.5. I figure the more weight I can shift the better for my knee. I'm getting married in November and getting my suit end of October. Goal is to be under 230 by then and I'm going to work very hard on my fitness and diet now bjj is out of the window for 9 months...
  11. Thanks for the support. I don't think I'll be getting any more bjj in this challenge. Even if it's not torn its going to need some time off and rehab. I will instead be focusing on diet as well as upper body work and fitness. Anything I can do to be kind to my knee I will. Still I'm doing nothing until Tuesday at the earliest.
  12. Re above I've got an appointment Tuesday to get it seen hy a specialist to identify if any ligaments were torn.
  13. Training was going OK. Currently on crutches since I've damaged my left knee. In real pain with it.
  14. Weight is down today and diet has been going well past few days. I haven't been able to train this week. I've been at work for every session and ended up picking up overtime on Thursday so I can only make the Friday night open mat. Going to get some weights in tomorrow though. More than 1 way to skin a cat.
  15. I'm arranging some crosstraing. Did a bit of networking with other heavyweights at the tournament and loads of gyms come to my gym for additional training so I think I'm going to sort some wrestling out going forward. Maybe go train at some mma clubs I wanted to add some ground and pound anyway. As it turns out the guy I lost to by dq went on to win the absolute. I'm only disappointed that I didn't perform to the best of my abilities. But that's nerves and Inexperiance.
  16. Boxing, in my opinion is one of the best arts to learn, it tends to be cheap and it's very effective for self defence especially if you know a little grappling. Same with muay thai. It's also very good for getting into shape. What sort of stuff does aikidojutsu (spl?) involve?
  17. I'm going to look to update daily also as well as being more active in others challenges.
  18. Goals for this 5 week challenge. Main goal Drop weight. The goal for this challenge is to get below 238lbs. This would be the lightest I've been this year. Gain strength and mobility. I need to do more physical activity. A minimum of 3 strength and conditioning sessions per week. Continue to train bjj. Try to average 3x sessions per week. Might try to arrange some wrestling classes. I think the tournament was a case of running before I can walk, I was thinking about jumping back into it but now I. Not so sure. I need to work more on takedowns and be confident there first. I'm also not mobile enough and undersized at this weight. Long term goals. Get below 220lbs. Improve wrestling. Work on overall game.
  19. Thanks man, So I was nervous as fuck on the morning of this and didn't feel good going into the tournament. Match 1 Ultra heavyweight gi final. See the guy I'm against hes bigger than me and on speaking to him after has trained a lot longer. My gameplan was takedown oriented and here's where I fucked up, we were moving around, tied up and I couldn't get a good position for a shot so in the moment I pulled guard. Pretty sure this is the moment I lost. He was immovable on top and was able to pass my guard from the pull. I got crushed by his top position and got caught with a merciful Americana from mount towards the end of the round. 0-1 but came with a silver medal... Match 2 Gi absolute. Drew a good guy for this, we started and the roll went well, he Swept me, scored some points but I was in the match. Got top position towards the end with little time to go so I dropped back for a footlock, and turned the wrong way, getting Dqed in the process for "reaping the knee". 0-2 overall. Match 3 Nogi ultra heavyweight. Drew a monster of a man, ultra heavy with ripped abs. There was a brief exchange, he shot a double, I went for a guilitine which slipped out and in the scramble he caught my arm for a Kimura. 0-3 I should have had another match here, but my opponent didn't turn up, so I took bronze via a walkover. Technically a win but it isn't really. Match 4. Didn't happen. This was the nogi absolute and probably my best chance at a couple of wins. I wasn't worried about what I'd seen from others and my nerves had gone by this point. The matches fell nicely into the bracket and I felt good and strong. And they canceled it last minute as they ran out of time. Evaluation. I need to wrestle more, my confidence on the feet sucks. I don't feel at all comfortable shooting. I also need to continue to lose weight. I was immobile in my second match, there was a chance to come up and take the back and I was just stuck. Also I just need to get better..... On a positive side I got in there and competed, didn't embarass myself, I just wasn't skilled enough, and my nerves did not help me one bit. They were gone by the end and hopefully will stay away next time.
  20. Further update my matches are finalised and I have an opponent in the gi =). So that's 4 matches guaranteed tomorrow.
  21. Subbed to see which art you end up with. Looks like a good challenge.
  22. I'm also going to look to be more active in other people's challenges this time around.
  23. From the other thread. I attended a great seminar today, worked on the fishnet technique. Which is a reverse Lockdown from a failed xguard sweep. I love Lockdown from half guard and found that this one really worked for me.
  24. Just created a new challenge. Please follow any updates on there
  25. Hello, Last time around I was in the preparation phase for my first bjj tournament. That takes place tomorrow. I'm Competing in the nogi absolute and nogi ultra heavyweight. I'm Competing in the gi abolsute but there's nobody in my weightclass in the gi. I'm looking forward to the experiance. So unusually my challenge will be mainly to compete tomorrow. I'm hoping to get a couple of wins and work on my skill set. The challenge goals are going to be to train bjj am average of 3 times a week over the 5 weeks. I will also aim to get my weight to below 238. Ill write up a full plan of attack on Monday night
