  1. I agree with Bellatrix, the non HP Bellatrix... Quit the gym. You might go for a month, or 6, but if you don't love it don't do it. Experiment. Find something you enjoy doing and do it. Or find something you WANT to be able to do, and work towards it. You will be more likely to succeed with a goal in mind other than to lose weight. Make the goal HAVE FUN! For me it was parkour. I found this website because I was looking for ways of self teaching parkour. At that stage I was maybe 20lbs overweight and I was walking to and from work 5 days a week. It worked out as about 40 minutes a day x 5 days over some fairly hilly terrain. Because I wanted to do parkour I began walking on my days off and added a 5 1/2 hour walk to one of those days. I don't think I will loose any more weight, but I still have some fat to lose and I'm preparing to put on some weight in muscle. What activities do you currently enjoy doing?

Haha well this got answered in an unexpected way. I typically use one or the other for the same purpose depending on whether I want to use the blender or not. What I should have said is, and I'll use products that are the same, why would I choose say, one brand of tomatoes that has preservatives in it as opposed to another brand that has no preservatives. I am a chef, I completely understand the different uses for different types of ingredients. However I will choose the product that has no preservatives and as few additives as possible, regardless. I know what to expect and I wont mind that the consistency might change from one can to the next.

The point missed was that the processing that removes the micronutrient value of a food offers no benefit. Unrefined sea salt is more beneficial than refined salt. What is the argument? Like I said there are some processing methods that offer no benefit. I don't know how you can't agree. The point was not whether the micro nutrient values of one single food type of a varied healthy diet matter. There are huge arguments about calories in vs calories out. And I have to say from experience that it ISN'T as simple as that. If you alter the nutrient density of a loaf of bread, it might lower the calorie content, however, it's still tearing your stomach lining and robbing nutrients from your digestive system. You still need to eat the right sort of processed foods to stay healthy. And again I'll say, some processing methods provide benefits, some don't. The thing I don't understand the most, is besides the cost of a product, why would you choose a can of tomatoes with 2 types of chemical preservatives over a bottle of passata thats 100% tomato? For me it's not so much the cost. I would prefer just plain old 100% tomato passata. Why? Why not? I don't really need a can of tomatoes to last 36 years.

Thats like saying sugar is sugar, it has sugar in it. It's made up of other components, sodium is the element, salt is a compound. You should to research this point further. Unrefined sea salt contains many other minerals that refined table salt does not. The same with refined vs unrefined sugar. Like I said, there are some processing methods that are not beneficial to the purpose of nutrition. Salt refining removes most if not all of the nutrients that occur naturally. Take Iodine for example. A lot of table salt has iodine added to it because it is lost during refining. However the naturally occurring iodine has a higher bioavailability. And I do believe that the paleo way of life is very much about macro AND micro nutrients. A varied diet will cover these issues. But sometimes the processing of foods has removed the nutrients. For what purpose is what I am arguing. This is one of the processed food issues I am saying is not beneficial. It only covers a small range of people's nutrition, but it's an example. It is commonly known that a lot of the vitamins and minerals in multivitamins have a low range of bioavailability. Micronutrients in fruit and vegetables have a high bioavailability making them good for you. I miss the questionable logic of this... just take a multivitamin right? Having too many nutrients is only ONE aspect of the problem people have with processed foods. Like you said to begin with, there are many many opinions regarding the issue. You don't get fat eating too many nutrients either. There is so much missing from that statement. Originally you said re. processed food: Now you tell are telling me what my complaint re. processed food is: Well thats not my gripe with processed foods. "Fat Head". I think the gist of that video was that it isn't processed high nutrient foods that are making you fat. Suggesting there is a more to the story? Are you for or against processed foods? Like I said earlier. There are some methods of processing foods that are beneficial, and some that are not. Im confused as to what your argument is now..
  6. Thanks man! I'm excited about your progress. Let me know how it goes!

Understanding why or how something was done doesn't matter. Often things were originally done because they just worked, understanding the reason why it was done came later on. I have no doubt that very early attempts at preservation weren't very effective. But this would have been a trial and error part of the history. It does say in your link that: You don't have to go back hundreds of thousands of years to find traditional methods. But what I am disagreeing with is: Lacto fermentation is actually making an environment for very specific organisms to thrive. Only a few of those methods in that link imo are in any way detrimental to nutritional value of the food.
  8. Aw back pain sux! Hope all goes well and good luck on monday!

  9. Actually haven't worked out in a couple weeks due to back pain. I am going back to workouts on Monday. :) - Also, I have not yet met the prerequisite for handstands.

Look at the nutrient breakdown of unprocessed sugar and salt, and compare it to processed sugar and salt. There are processing methods that are just not beneficial for the purpose of nutrition. Some methods of processing are neither good or bad. I think processed foods, in Australia at least. Is more about the completely unnecessary additives. It really pisses me off that I can't find 100%coconut milk. I dont want the citric acid, and the shit that is known to cause cancer in animal tests, and guar gum. Juice a bloody coconut and put it in a fkn can! But they put this crap in there because a food scientist who wasted thousands of dollars at university has determined that all these ingredients will make the food, whatever it is, more consistant. Milk homogenisation. The whole point of this is consistency, I agree, it looks freaking delicious! But I'd rather drink it raw. Pasteurisation. Because big companies want to produce huge quantities of milk and dominate the market, so they need to cook it incase one cows milk was spoiled. But they can't charge as much if they didn't develop this new fang-dangled technology to make the food more consistent. I have to disagree with aj_rock on the preservation of food. The method of preservation you describe is modern. As oystergirl mentioned, lacto fermentation is the traditional method of preserving foods, and enhances the nutritional value. Preserving is more about encouraging beneficial bacteria, which in turn compete and exclude unwanted bacteria that would normally spoil the food. The bacteria help in a number of ways, in your gut, and making nutrients more readily available to absorb. While you might be right that some processed foods are just as beneficial as fresh. There is also a lot of crap out there for no really good reason.
  12. It's not really about whether you crave carbs or not. You're feeding your body carbs. fruit, milk, processed sugar = sugar. Sugar = carbs. But, experiment. If increasing the amount of healthy fats in your diet doesn't work, try cutting out or reducing all those sneaky carbs you don't realise your eating
  13. Fruits, lactose = Sugar What LW was trying to suggest is that after consuming that much fruit, milk and sugar, it affects the rest of your day in terms of feeling hungry. Your insulin is trying so hard to get rid of the sugar from the fruit and the milk and the processed sugar, it's not allowing your body to draw on any other source of energy. Leaving it till later in the day will help slightly, but cut down in the amount of fruit, and try and wean yourself from sugar in your coffee. Coffee is delicious with no sugar, but it will take some adjusting. It's worth it. I know that if I have carbs in my brekky my whole day goes downhill and I have to play catch up to improve my mood. Now in the mornings the only carbs I have is 35ml of milk with my coffee.
