  1. I have two challenges for myself for this next period; Hit my weight goal of 175: I'm halfway to this so far, (well, a bit more since I'm at 183 down from 195) but I still have a ways to go. My diet has been okay in terms of calories, but not 100% in terms of the intake. For now, the goal is the weight. Have one lifting form day per week: I want to be sure that the movements that I'm making, (squat, deadlift, shoulder press, etc.) are all all spot-on and done correctly. On my form day, I'll keep the weight to a bare minimum just to feel it, and I'll practice good form techniques, watch myself in the mirror, and if possible, have someone knowledgable to watch what I do and correct it. That's it for me, keep it simple, smart-guy! :-)
  2. You know, I've been a bit reticent to use those pull-up/dips assisting machines, because I really do love the philosophy of this group that the best exercises are done free of machines. You make a good point though, that I really shouldn't just eliminate dips out of hand, since there are machines which will help me work up to that point. I think I may try out the dip assisting machine today.
  3. Hi all, I don't think I can do a single dip, yet. I can get up on the bars, but once I try to go down, my arms can't seem to get me back up. I'm just beginning to work on my strength training routine, (from NerdFitness, of course! ) but I want to start doing things that can get me to the point of being able to fully include dips into my routine. I've seen the video, evolution of pullups , and I was curious to know if anyone knew something similar for dips. Thanks for all the help! -WilConquer
  4. All Hail, Rebels of Nerd Fitness! My name is Mike, I live in NJ and am a first year teacher. I've been following Nerd Fitness now for a few months, and I'm really enjoying everything about it, (community/posts/ebook) and so I decided to join the discussions. As far as my goals are concerned, my current goal is to drop from 195 lbs to 175 lbs, (I'm 6'2", so 195 was the upper end of healthy for me). After that, I want to get my body-fat percentage down below 15%, (ideally below 12%). From there, I would want to focus on some more sports-related fitness goals (triathlons, a marathon, bike all of NJ, CrossFit anyone?). As it stands though, I have been tracking my caloric intake and really pushing myself with the NerdFitness 5x5-like program, and so far I'm down to 186! That's all for me now, talk to you all soon!
