  1. Hi all, I want to create a simple workout plan to help me get fit. I can workout 3 days a week. I'd like to stick to my own room or running for now. If you have any ideas please let me know!
  2. Well, he said the 15 rep part isn't about adding weight. After two months doing it I'll definitely add a bit of weight. The point is to build endurance, so he says. Like I said, he did this and got big doing it. I just don't know which is best for me.
  3. Well, he's not arguing against compounds. He did say that it's not worth doing deadlifts though. He said do squats, benchpress, OHP among others. He's just saying to start with 15 reps per set to build endurance. Then after two months immediately switch over to heavy weight and low reps. Then when I hit a plateau, go back to high reps. Then repeat.
  4. Hi everyone, Background: my dad was once a body builder and he was a pretty big guy (muscle not fat), still is. He has been discussing weight training and weight loss with me. He said that I should take two months to do a routine of lifts where I do about 15 reps per set (where I can lift 15-17 reps max) of lighter weight to build stamina and endurance. That way I can handle the heavier lifting. Then I should jump right into heavy weight training at 6-8 reps per set to build muscle and strength. I trust that he knows what he's doing because he was so successful. He followed all the bodybuilders of his time like Arnold Schwarzenegger. He knows I don't want to be huge but that I want to be strong and build up more muscle than I have now. What he told me kind of conflicts with what I've learned on this site. Just heavy compound exercises. I want to lose fat (I'm probably 90 lbs overweight) and build strength. I'm not sure that this "endurance lifting" will meet my weight loss goals. I'm also not sure that his way is the only way. He claims that by only doing heavy lifting you'll be strong with no endurance. So I ask you, what should I do? Any advice?
  5. Welcome! I love Star Wars and longboarding also! I'm also studying computer science! This is uncanny.
  6. Hahaha that video is great. I'm interested in videogames. Particularly building game engines. Hardware architecture is cool too. I'm going to be taking a course on operating systems.
  7. My advice to you would be "appearance is a consequence of fitness." Also, weight is misleading. Body fat percentage is a much more accurate way to determine general health and fitness.
  8. Welcome! I'm studying for a computer science degree myself. I love coding and Skyrim also. Dark Souls I only like to watch because it infuriates me so much haha.
  9. Welcome! Being an overweight emotional eater myself, I find exercise itself a great alternative. You may want to look into slowly transitioning into the paleo diet, which would be a lifestyle change, not a quick weightloss solution. Take a look at the article by Steve. Personally, I decided to jump right into eating paleo and I dropped one belt hole in a week. It was tough though. I was hungry much of the time but it passes. I feel like I'm rambling so I'll stop now. Good to have you here!
  10. I live on the east coast actually but I thought that was a funny idea for a marathon.

  12. I always forget something. Considering what I'm bringing to the table, as the description of this forum says, I'm an experienced rower. I know that very few people are interested in rowing but I would very much like to help anyone that is!
  13. Hello everyone! This post is my official reset. I have been on the forums for a year now but I fell off the wagon long ago. Its time to hit the reset button and come out swinging. I'm 20 years old at 6'0" and ~285lbs with an unknown body fat percentage. Once my body fat caliper comes in I'll measure it. I want to drop those down to 200lbs and 18% respectively. My plan is to begin powerlifting 3 days per week and erging/running on my off days from lifting. I'll be following the paleo diet aside from protein shakes which I've always found to be useful. I'm not new to fitness but it has been a long time. I want to feel comfortable in my own skin again. I will be joining the current 6 week challenge as soon as life permits. Its good to be back.
  14. OK, I'll definitely try it because I want to. I used to handle 6 days per week of erging and rowing because I was on a crew team which is freaking intense if you didn't know. My body will adapt quickly enough I think. Thanks!
