  1. Thanks! Coming up with good, well-thought out goals was a bit tough, especially since I tend to make my goals a bit too ambitious. I figured that baby steps will get me there better. That's a good idea about the books. I was thinking about trying that audible app, so this might be the perfect opportunity to try now.
  2. Hi everyone, I'm a little late to the party..even though I had joined the spreadsheet a few days ago. Seems like I wasn't utilizing everything like I should. I'm Sacculina. This is the second challenge I have joined, but should be the first that I complete. I think my previous challenge(s) were a bit too ambitious for my poor body to handle. I ended up giving up after a few days. I want to try and put an end to that, mainly because I have been able to watch my mother and grandmother become immobile for the most part due to weight and I don't want to be that way. I refuse. The link to my challenge is here: Sacculina's Quest
  3. Day two: Did my 1.54 mile walk in 29:38 minutes with both dogs this time. In my last half mile, I was stung by a bee, but I kept on trucking at the same pace (just with a bit of profanity to color the walk...seriously, it's too early for that crap). Thankfully, I don't seem to be allergic to it, but it gave me a migraine from hell. What a way to start of a challenge! I made myself a smoothie with some milk, protein powder, and fresh mixed berries for breakfast. I was a bit too hot to try something else. Feeling my motivation kind of dwindling a little already. I truly need to find good music. Apparently, my metal isn't doing the job (unless it's Kalmah, Korpiklaani, or Finntroll). I think I might have to find proper workout music. Any suggestions?
  4. Knocked out my first morning mile (and a half) of my 6 week challenge this morning. Feeling good. I think this is something that I can keep up this time. .

  5. Day one has just started, but I have gone on my walk. Morning Walk: 1.54 miles in 32:01 minutes with my pooch, Theo. Breakfast: 3/4 cup Greek yogurt with 5 chopped strawberries, 3 blackberries, and small handful of blueberries. Lunch: 3oz turkey slices and pepper jack cheese on multigrain bread with corn, green beans, and tomato salad. Snacks: Peach and 13 Mary's Gone Crackers Dinner: TBD So far, I have had one glass of water. Will fill up my thermos with water to take to work and my goal is to drink the entire thing by the time I get home. Studying with commence tonight after work which I plan to get approximately three or four hours in before I go to bed. Only two more weeks and then it's test time!
  6. Captain's log #3: Got sick over the camping trip which has put me out for quite some time. I will not gross anyone out, but let's say that exercise was not in the forefront of my mind. Also, I failed my first comprehensive final, so I spent more time studying so that I won't fail the second (Huzzah I passed!!!), now I have studying for my ASCP Registry exam. Today: I mowed our huge lawn with the push-mower, cleaned both cars, and helped my mother walk around a mall for while. Tomorrow, I start my first challenge. I will try to come up here to log more often.
  7. This is my second challenge that I have signed up for, but this time that I will finally complete this challenge. Due to my thyroid problems making losing weight a challenge, I have decided to focus on being able to complete my objectives each week because I can get disheartened if my success is based off weight. Therefore, I now I shall tell you what my main quest is... Main Quest: To find the mystical powers to battle the dark, melancholy lazy cloud that surrounds me and beat the ogre in order to reach a size 14 (for now). Objectives: Walk a mile 5 days a week in the morning with each week getting progressively better times. (Will record times)Ditch the sodas and sugary coffees for good.Eat at least one clean meal a day. Life Quest: To pass the ASCP Registry exam with an 85% or better. Motivation: Do not want to be like my mom who can't leisurely walk around the mall for thirty minutes without pain and has recently been diagnosed with diabetes at a relatively young age. I want to be able to live a full and fun-filled life.
  8. Oh yes, I was sore too. I was getting picked on at work because every once in a while, I would prop my foot up on the chair behind me to stretch my quads. My coworkers kept saying "there she goes being a flamingo". I just giggled. Ibuprofen has been my friend. Wideeyed, that's awesome. I'll probably end up putting clean recipes up on here too (the one that I learn for the week). I'm not going to be strictly paleo since it's apparently not right for me, but it will at least be preservative free! I am glad I am not the only one Captain's Log #2: Actually woke up this morning to cook an omelet. Wow that was amazing. Legs were stiff and as the day wore on, I became sore. Tomorrow, I will be on my way to my campsite for the weekend. I plan on working out as well as a ton of activities such as swimming, clamming, and fishing. I think that I'll repeat this week next week since I totally forgot about camping...I'm a goober.
  9. You aren't the only one. I thought I 'bout died with my workout, but you can do it!
  10. I've already prepped the tylenol for tomorrow, but I know that this is all worth it!
  11. Captain's log #1: Decided to ditch the old battle log. Upon reading over my old log, I realized that I whined a bit much and made a ton of excuses. I am going to try a new approach. I'm going to remind myself that this is for me. If other people with similar medical problems, body types, and lack of athleticism can do this, then so can I! I am ready for a change and I will be my biggest support group. Goals for the week: exercise 3x this week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) study for final exam for 1 hour each nightlimit coffee to once a dayGoals for the month: Perform 50 squatsPerform 15 standard push-upsPlank for one minuteLearn to cook a new clean meal a weekExercise 5x a weekLong term goals: Become a certified medical laboratory scientist and move to DC areaGo from a size 18 pants to a size 14 (Don't want to focus on the weight because I become obsessed)Be able to use weights during workouts So I started a 90 day challenge today. Yesterday, I took a pre-challenge picture which I am quite ashamed of. I think that I'll either take a picture every two weeks or at the end of the month, I have yet to decide. My first day was a bit disheartening. I used to be able to do so much more, but I had to realize that I have to start back at square one since I haven't exercised since last summer. Also, being outside of that hated room full of mirrors helped quite a bit. I didn't realize that lifting my 220 lbs of fluff would be such hard work. Wow. All of these were until failure (or when my knees gave out a few times). By the time I got to the crunches, I realized that I was feeling a bit light-headed. I don't know if my breathing sucked or I was over-working myself, but I will pay more attention next time to see if it happens again. So my workout and stats: Wall Squat (in mm:ss): 1:19, 0:31, 0:38, 0:39 Standard Squat: 30, 30, 15, 16 Wall Squat (in mm:ss): 0:43, 0:41, 0:31, 0:39 Lunges: 6,8,4,6 standard push-ups: 2,1,0,0 modified push-ups: 6,6,3,6 incline push-ups: 8,9,7,7 double crunch: 3,3,4 bicycle crossover: 10,10,8 standard crunch: 20,21,10 reverse crunch: 10,11,7 Plank: 0:15, 0:23I warmed up with 5 minutes of elliptical and cooled off by walking in the rain for 10 minutes and light stretching. Until next time!
  12. Clyde, my immunoassay analyzer, is about to get a kick in the nads. *grumble*

It truly was evil. First, it was minor. By the time I had to leave, I had to stick my arm up inside of it, retrieve random bits of biohazardous waste that had somehow missed the container, and rerun everything (which needed to be programmed manually because the barcode reader died). Murphy was at work.

  13. Good evening, I have been an Oxygen Magazine subscriber for about two years now. I know, Steve would probably call me an Underpants gnome, but I am finding that some of their motivational stories and articles really get me wanting to get back into shape, like Steve's articles, but then life barfs and I get off track. Anyways, Oxygen has a 90 day challenge that starts off using bodyweight exercises and a meal plan and ends with free weights. I'm thinking about starting it at the beginning of July. I am know that I can do this and I am going to put it in my battle log for accountability. So where am I going with this? Well, I was wondering if any of you wouldn't mind stopping by my log and make sure that I have logged in my food and exercise (will also be using MyFitnessPal) and call me out on it if I don't. Also, anyone want to join me?
  14. Thought today was hilarious. I started to do inclined push-ups while preparing QC for the analyzer at my internship. Felt pretty good, even though my nitrile gloves kept wanting to slip occasionally. Started to keep track of my food intake and calories, somewhat, by using the Myfitnesspal app on my phone. I find that I'm almost always under my caloric intake, but my fat and protein intake is a bit much. Also, I'm still struggling to get rid of the amount of sugar. I am also preparing most of my foods at home the night before my internship so that I actually have something to eat that isn't just thrown together while running out the door. Exercise has been difficult. I'm so exhausted by 8pm and I still have an hour left for work that I can't get myself motivated. Thought about going before internships, but that means I have to wake up at around 4am. Not enough sleep, so I will aim to get some physical stuff done on Sunday. Only two more weeks of my complaining!
  15. I am on the Mirena...no period for over 3 years. Makes me one happy kiddo and I am so glad my doc didn't care that I haven't had children. It's helped with my anemia too
  16. I have quite a few that I cycle between. F*cker by Strapping Young Lad Doommaker by Old Man's Child Under Bergets Rot by Finntroll Brackish by Kittie To the Gallows by Kalmah Then, lately, my motivation has been The Climb by Miley Cirus.....no clue how that came into being, might be all those nights playing Lips on XBOX.
  17. I am the oddball IBS person. I can't do any preservatives or fried foods. I can do vegetables which is odd since I sometimes binge on brussel sprouts, cabbage, or collards. My intestines are special. If you have a really bad problem, I was told to do the BRAT diet for a week which is just bananas, rice, unsweetened plain applesauce, and toast which I randomly have to do every few months (omg it sucks). I am trying out myfitnesspal, but I have also been doing the clean eat diet by Tosca Reno which I am finding makes my body so much happier for some odd reason. Don't get me wrong, I still have problems. Also, have you tried probiotics? My dad said that they worked wonders for him. *shrug*
  18. June 12th, 2013 Yesterday was my sister's high school graduation. As I sat there, I realized that it's been 8 years since I was in High school, but I remember so many experiences there. I, also, remembered that I was under 200 lbs and could wear a dress without having to wear spanks in order to keep the thighs from rubbing raw. I guess that remembering all of that has made me realize how much I really want to change my lifestyle, but it also reminds me how scared I am to start. I'm constantly afraid that I am going to hurt myself or causing more problems than are worth. I can't let this anxiety to overcome me. I will not let it consume my lift. Therefore, I have already started to plan my workouts for when my internship is over with (yes I harp on that, but the exhaustion is overwhelming, even on the weekends). Breakfast: 1 apple pie larabar (woke up late )1/2 cup coffee with stevia and 1 tbsp of plain creamer1 cup waterSnack: 1 omelet with diced tomatoes, chopped ham, 1 oz cheddar cheese, spinach, onions, and peppers1 cup water Lunch: Homemade chili with kidney beans and brown rice10 Fritos scoops Dinner: Roasted Turkey sandwich with Havarti cheese on whole grain bread1 laughing cow light garlic and herb cheese with crackers10 grapesNote to self: need to introduce more vegetables...
  19. Oh dear...this storm is freaking scary...and I typically love thunderstorms. Tornado warnings galore. Not supposed to happen on the coast!!!

  20. ....and resurrect my log.... Internships are still in the way of any serious training. 18 hours of work a day is not conducive to working out, so I am going to focus on clean eating. I have decided to start a 90 day training program from Oxygen magazine that starts off with bodyweight training in July (after this last rotation). It also comes with a high-protein, low-carb clean eating meal plan which is kind of what I need. Also, on Sundays, I have been swimming in a pool (and a little bit of floating). However, work/rotation is no where near sedentary so hopefully that will be a good thing. For now, though, this will be more of a food log. I am thinking about posting a BEFORE picture when I start up the program and take a picture at the end of each month, just to see progress. Okay so today: Breakfast: Egg, bacon, cheddar cheese muffin 1 cup coffee Snack: 1/2 cup strawberries, pineapple, and cantaloupe Lunch: 2 cups baby spinach with 1/8 cup carrots, 3 grape tomatoes, 3 cucumber slices and 1 tbsp basil vinagrette Snack: Larabar banana foster 1 cup coffee Dinner: 1 cup crab and corn chowder
  21. Need to put these samples on the analyzer, but my brain just wants to read my fantasy book. Motivation is so lacking.

  22. This is exactly what I am afraid of. I haven't been lifting for quite some time after slightly injuring my knee and then all this school stuff. I'm going to be one sore puppy for a good while.
  23. A rumor running through the Doctor Who/BBC fansite is Emma Watson which would be just odd. If they go with a female, I hope that she will be someone less well known and not too "omg girl!" Hugh Laurie couldn't do it since the Doctors have all regenerated into younger men each time. He's too old. I love John Hurt, but I think he's too well known. For me, he'll always be the dragon in Merlin. >_> Personally, I think it wold be fun to go with someone who is relatively new to acting in front of cameras. Someone who will grow into the role, who we can watch change into something amazing (*crossing fingers here*). I am not very fond of static characters. Give me someone who changes and evolves as they get comfortable in their role. Yet, this person should not be too human. Matt Smith managed to get the Doctor to a more alien-like presence, so a too-human Doctor would probably throw me off.
  24. Captain's log 198: 14 hours of work, 2 more to go. Getting a little delirious.
