  1. The GP is the best thing about Bahrain, and the heat I guess, if you like that. I personally hate the heat, and can't wait to get back to the UK, but it's been a good experience altogether.
  2. Hey Sundae, I secured a placement year with a company out here protecting oil and gas pipelines, I actually live in Bahrain but work in Saudi Arabia (or I would, if my visa didn't just expire!) I am a massive F1 fan, in fact part of the reason I took this placement was because it's an excuse to go to the Bahrain grand prix (and, y'know, the experience, but mostly F1.) I grew up around cars and motorsport but stopped doing karting a few years back, hoping to get into shape and represent Loughborough in the uni championships next year (2017-18, gotta give myself some time to get back into it!) That's awesome, I'm still working out where I fit in with the whole guilds system, hopefully when this challenge ends I'll have a better idea Thanks for the warm welcome!
  3. So I tried this before in 2014 and gave up, because I'm a fool. I've been in the middle east for the last 9 months, and it has resulted in me gaining ~20lb on top of my already obese body, so now it's time to get back at it, and try to lose some weight before I head back to the UK (and continuing when I get back, obviously.) The main goal here is strength training and getting leaner, with a look to getting back into karting. So, here goes, each challenge is worth +1 to their respective skills: STR :: Gym 3 times a week. I'm lazy, this needs to be fixed. What better way to sort it than to jump right in. STA :: Walk 5,000 steps per day (according to 3ds pedometer). I work 10 hours a day sat at an office desk, have to get started somewhere. DEX :: Attend physiotherapy. I had a car crash in February which resulted in me breaking my arm/bruising my radial nerve, I need to attend physio to aid the nerve damage recovery. CON :: Stop buying fast food I spend too much money on food, this will solve that. WIS :: Read a book a week. Fallen a bit behind my reading, going for 1 a week to rectify this. CHA :: Keep in contact with friends daily. I miss my friends from back home, I need to talk to them more. Simple as that really. That's about it really, I've also got a side quest of saving 1 BHD / Day. Regards, Exohain.
  4. Yeah I get what you're both saying, but at the moment while I'm still getting into the habit of training and eating right it's nice to have a numeric goal to work towards rather than an arbitrary "get healthier" thing. I'm sure over the next few months the actual goal weight will fall by the wayside.
  5. According to a few different calculators my TDEE seems to be around 2900 calories, so I'll be aiming for 1800 a day
  6. Thanks mate, good luck with your goals too! I'll keep that in mind about the running, I'm going to take it easy to start with and if it feels like something's going wrong then I'll back off for a few days and hope it sorts itself out.
  7. I know I'll probably weigh more than that because of the strength training, but I would rather set a low goal weight at the moment because I know that if I set the goal weight to be higher I'll probably just give up with strength training when I reach that weight, so I'll be the target weight for muscle but it'll still just be fat and I'll be in pretty much the same place as I am now. All goals are subject to change throughout the course of the program anyway.
  8. Before we begin let me state that I understand that Ogre is a race, whereas Assassin is a class, but I feel that I'm not strong enough to class myself as a Warrior at the moment but I have the build of one, therefore Ogre. Okay so, intro topic is here, I'll not bore you with the details as this will be as close to a pure log thread as possible. My Stats Height: 6'0" Weight: 245lbs (17st 7lbs) / 11kg Age: 20 My Quest: To lose a lot of weight while increasing my overall strength. (Preferably down 90 lb to 155)Starting on the Paleo diet, going to give it a shot for a few months and see how it goes.Body weight training. (Starting with beginner body weight workout)To start running, and complete a half marathon.Start by using Couch25k to get into running, focus on endurance after I'm comfortable with 5k.Stretch goal - Marathon. To be able to do ParkourRequires increased body strength - Body weight trainingRequires knowing how to land/fall properly, amongst other things - Beginner's guide to ParkourMy Method: Monday - Combination of the Beginner's Body Weight Workout and Beginner's Guide to Parkour. Tuesday - Make progress on Couch to 5k. Wednesday - Combination of the Beginner's Body Weight Workout and Beginner's Guide to Parkour.Thursday - Make progress on Couch to 5k.Friday - Combination of the Beginner's Body Weight Workout and Beginner's Guide to Parkour.Saturday - Make progress on Couch to 5k.Sunday - Swim. So the plan is to alternate between the BBWW/BGTP combination and working on C25k. I've added swimming in on Sunday because I'll be doing that at least once a week (pool opening times vary so it won't actually be every Sunday.) I'm actually pretty pumped to start this.
  9. Thanks I'm just finalising the starting workout routine at the moment. Should be all set to go later on today!
  10. Starting statistics:Age - 20Height - 6'0"Weight - 245 lb Quest:To weigh around 154 lbTo drastically improve my endurance running (Minimum of a half marathon.)To be able to do parkour (increased upper body strength.) Hey all, I'm Kane, a 20 year old Electronic and Electrical engineering student from the U.K who has had enough of being overweight. I’ve always been overweight, I was always the chubby kid who ignored the extra weight as irrelevant and pretended that he could eat whatever he liked because he was “a growing boy.†I should have seen the signs of impending doom when I was in secondary school, I was pretty slim then (especially by today’s standards) weighing in at ~126lb in year 8. Over the course of the 6 years since then I put on almost double that to become ~245lb most of which came within the first 2 years. Now I’m coming up to the mid point in my first year at University and I’ve finally had enough. I am sick and tired of being overweight (actually, according the the NHS I’m obese, which is even worse) and I’ve decided to do something about it. Let's do this.
  11. Thanks for the suggestions JPrev, I've looked at the beginner body weight workout on the site and it suggests: 20 body weight squats10 push ups20 walking lunges10 dumbbell rows (using a gallon milk jug)15 second plank30 Jumping Jacks This looks like a good place to start for me, though I think I'll be adding some parkour style training on top of that just to get into it. Right now my routine is looking like this: Body weight squatPush-upLungesFlat leg raisePull upsDumbbel rows step-jumpsGround kongWall-sitPlank (I'll work out the target reps based on what I can do when I start.) Does this look good? As for the diet, I've started looking into paleo and I've just got to see if I can work it around the meals I get at university (starting to see the downside of being catered now.) However even if I can't I'll definitely start watching the portion sizes and counting calories to the best of my ability to get it to at least sub-500 a day.
  12. Hey all, I've got this crazy idea that I'm going to be able to drop from 245lb to 155lb over the next year and a bit, but I've got no real idea where to start. I've looked at the "Real-Life RPG" article that was posted and decided that I'd like to become more of an assassin/scout hybrid (mostly assassin, with the endurance aspect of scout). I'd like to focus on bodyweight exercises instead of weights/using gym equipment, mostly because I'm a poor student who can't afford gym membership at the moment (and those times that I've had it I've only really cycled/rowed anyway.) Just looking for some help on where to start really, I started the Couch25k program today so that should help with the endurance and I'm quite tempted to go and check out the local rock climbing centre in town but fear that I might be a bit too heavy to start right away.
