  1. Today, I get back on the Wendler wagon!!!!

  2. This is a pretty good explanation of the Wendler 5/3/1 Method: http://www.muscleforlife.com/get-strong-strength-training/ And these are words from Wendler himself: http://www.jimwendler.com/2011/09/531-for-a-beginner/
  3. How do you recommend I get my character moving? I've never really done much in the forum setting. I read Reddit at work sometimes but that's about it. Should I just start checking out the Rebel page and offering encouragement? Is there a story line I can jump into?
  4. No joke. Up until November of 2013 I had been working out at a CrossFit gym in my old town and that's what they called me. I'm short (5 foot 3 inches) and broad shouldered with a round belly. I also did all my lifts barefoot, have hairy feet, and loved to eat and drink. So the name stuck (granted I felt more dwarvenly, but you can't pick your nickname). I had joined that gym about 2 years prior to 2013 after I got back from a deployment to Afghanistan with the US Army (I'm in the National Guard, but that's another story). I was in the second best shape of my life, the first being when I got out of basic. I really enjoyed the workouts but I slacked off on my diet and really didn't see any progress. I eventually got my diet sorted out and got back on track until I got a roommate who loved to eat out and was always willing to share. Fast forward to today. My new wife and I just moved so she could be close to her grad school, while I journey to Mordor everyday (at least it feels like it takes that long). I'm in the worst shape of my life tipping the scales at 200 pounds (up 50 pounds from when I returned from deployment) and tired of not following through with any of my plans to change. So yesterday my wife and I joined the only gym in town that will let me do Olympic lifts and we're considering a detox program before kicking off on a paleo and zone based diet. I guess I know what to do, my issue is just doing it. I'm really hoping the RPG style of these challenges/quests will help push me forward. I can't wait to jump in on the next one and starting working my way towards some sort of warrior, ranger, monk role.
  5. First off congrats on your progress. It's always hard to start and not stop. I always have such grand ideas when I get going and then the weekend rolls around and habit takes over. I'm sure you'll be able to reach your goals if you stick it out and find some friends to push you at school.
  6. I just moved to this crazy beach town while my wife goes to grad school. All my friends are in Orlando or Tampa (a bit too far of a drive for regular meetups). Any Warriors or Rangers in the area that are looking for a workout buddy? I'm a rebel right now, but I used to sling weights and work out at a CrossFit Box, so I'm not completely useless. I do need to relearn how to program my own workouts though.
