  1. If you've never used a barbell before, do the program as written. The super light starting weights are designed to get you learning proper form before things get heavy and you hurt yourself.

Don't worry. Those light weights will start feeling plenty heavy soon enough.

  2. I got 205 lbs of plates and a bar for free. Woman's grandson left them behind and is now incarcerated. She wanted them gone but couldn't lift the 45s.

I also got my pole climbing gear off CL. $800 worth of stuff for only $150. Almost brand new too.

  3. FTFY

I've owned a Blackhawk, a Super Redhawk, and a P89 and all were built like brick shithouses. I want to trip over a #1 in 243 someday, and a Security Six is on my short list, too. The Security Six will probably be a while, since it's tough to justify when I have a S&W M60 in 357 with a 5" barrel already. A more perfect wood walking piece has never been conceived, except maybe the SP-101 in similar configuration.

You can justify that Six easy. You can never have too many guns.

I've gotten rid of most of mine in the last few years (dad shot himself with the only gun he ever owned), but I held onto my Ruger 10/22 and a Gamo Shadow 1000 pellet gun. Anything too big for those the Mathews takes care of.

Going coyote hunting on Sunday. Hopefully I can skunk my buddy and his .50

  4. Sounds very similar to what I went through. I have very high arches in my feet, and dealt with a lot of pain in my hips. Got a pair of custom fit orthotics and no more pain. If you're having problems with your ankles rolling, you might want to get checked out by a podiatrist.

  5. Pics are required once it's on the road! (and build pics if you have em)

Agreed. That sounds like a sweet ride. Sounds very close to what I'd love to do some day. I'd go back 2 more years to a 1977 F-250 with a body and engine from a new truck. Just fit the old body on the new frame. But sounds like a sweet set-up.

For sure. I've been working on a slide show for some friends and I'll put a link up when it's done.

Looks like the Ranger is gonna need some work done, too. I'm thinking a blown 3.3L stroker with a locking torque converter and an independent rear suspension upgrade while I'm at it.

  6. Right now I'm rocking a 2001 Ford Ranger that I inherited from my dad. Only 126K on it right now.

In about 2 months though, I'll be rolling in a 1979 Ford F350 Custom with a built 5.9 Cummins and a 6 speed manual. Just have to finish putting it back together.

  7. There have been things my daughter has refused to eat. She went to bed hungry. She's still alive...

Next time around she wasn't so picky.

Same thing happens in my house. But that decision should be left up to the parents, not the government. I don't like the idea of the same people who said eggs are bad and Zohydro is good dictating what my kids can and cannot eat.

  8. many many tough and hard core power lifters do regular cardio days. I'm not kidding.

ambling about is really not intense cardio. Are you ambling or are you walking at say 4.5 mph? Either way, it's good for you.

and no, a couple of walks will not decrease your lifts.

I walk a minimum of 3-4 mi per day. 2 miles minimum after lifting at the gym. I turn around and go back to the gym. It's fine.

I sometimes lift, run 5K, and lift again the next day. It's fine.

Humans were meant to walk... a lot. If you want a book on lifting that also mixes in cardio, let me know. The dude is amazing.

If anything, I find the walking is super good for two things: recovery - moving those legs is good recovery and walking is not taxing on your body and hip mobility - your hips get all tight and your back gets all tight sitting all day. Humans were meant to be upright moving.

What's the name of that book? I've been running/jogging for 6 months and lifting for one (SL). Since I started lifting, I've been hurt twice while running with a muscle strain in my left thigh and a right shin splint.

  9. My wife introduces me as a hooker!

Well, technically I'm a telecom construction lineman (building copper, coaxial and fiber networks), but I do climb (hook) utility poles and I will work for what ever tel Co wants to write a check.

  10. Howdy all. I stumbled across this site while rehabbing from a recent bicep injury at work.

I've always considered myself relatively strong. I have a very physically demanding job (I'm a telecom lineman), and never had any trouble until the injury. I was just amazed at how little weight I could move. So I decided to take a good hard look at my life and the choices that have led me here.

January 1st I cold turkeyed a 15 year dip habit. Hardest thing I have ever done in my life. I started training for my first 5k the next day, and started the Beginner Bodyweight program a few days later. The results have been phenomenal! More energy, no more stomach cramps, and I can actually pull my fat butt up!

Now to clean up my diet and really start pushes some plates soon...
