  1. Hey guys i ell be glad to edit it, one question, how?
  2. A somewhat mundane challenge. I am probably 80% towards my weight goal with about 10-15 pounds to go so I will be happy to lose between four and seven pounds by the end of this challenge. I want to lose one to one and a half inches from my waist and the remainder of the underarm flab. To take my one hour running distance to 8.5 Km from my current best of 7.96 Km. To learn to enjoy weight training or at least to get on and do it. I want to become more flexible and am considering joining a yoga class but I will probably leave it until later this year. As i said far from exciting. Good luck to you all with your challenges
  3. Looks like a comprehensive list, good luck with your goals.
  4. How did this challenge go hmmm, one scale of one to ten I would give it six and a half. The test jeans can now be buttoned up where previously there was a inch and a half gap however they are still a tad to tight to wear, two shirts i could not wear are now a perfect fit. I lost four pounds, not huge but about what I wanted and as i am getting nearer to my goal it will get slower. My one hour running distance has increased by about one kilometer which is pleasing. The weight training was rather lax as I truly do not enjoy it, that will be something i need to get my head round during the next challenge as will be doing more cycling. Final summary, happy enough, i could probably push it harder but i dont feel the need to, better a slow and long term burn that a short term firework. Its a marathon and not a sprint. My thanks to those that have supported me and posted comments. Good luck to all in the next challenge.
  5. Hiya Fearless, I came in at about 2am rather the worse for wear, since getting up I have spent all day laying on the sofa watching the test match. Going out in an hour but i have decided to drive to meet some friends as i dont feel like anothe booze session. Tomorrow is a rock festival so i probably wont be back until Monday.
  6. I have been on a plateu for about six days with the scales hardly moving, i am well aware that this can happen but i decided to try and shift it, i increased my carbs from about 70 per day to approx 120 but kept the calories at about 1800. After two days I have had a 2.2 pound weight drop, would this have happened anyway, truth is I dont know. After this weekend beer binge i will be reducing my carbs back to around 70 again. I read an article about a short term carb increase helping to "jump start" a weight loss plateu so i gave it a go.
  7. Todays tag Faliure is not the opposite of success its just a lesson on the path to success.
  8. 19469 steps 14.34 km travelled 7.59 km run in 60 minutes 3342 calories burnt 15 minutes of kettlebells. Well pleased No mini challenge this weekend as i have some heavy social stuff as follows Friday night a colleagues leaving do which will involve much beer untill the early hours. Saturday evening out with friends which will involve much beer and texmex food Sunday a one day rock festival which will involve much................... I am hiding the scales lol
  9. I am not saying this is the case with you so please forgive any unwarrented assumptions. I feel that on occassion people let pretty good be damaged by perfection, the need to be full on 10 out o 10 in their need to rush to their goals when 6 out of 10 would be far less stressful. We all do it and then despair because the results are not awesome and our target is so far in the distance, it becomes overwhelming and a bad day just turns on the self destruction, the trick id to not let a bad day become a bad week tough at times but doable. Treat all days as a seperate entity, five good days with two bad days is a positive thing, no matter how bad a binge or no exercise day is it wont have a great effect in the medium and long term. A pound a week weight loss does not seem much but over six months it is a shit load of weight, this is what worked/is working for me, same as 3 x 15 minutes of kettle bells a week is not much but after four weeks the underarm flad is greatly reduced. After dark stormy nights the dawn will arrive, i hope your dawn arrives soon Best wishes Nightside
  10. Todays stats, no gym. 10502 steps 7.35 km travelled 2511 calories burnt Back to the gym tomorrow Something to consider Stop worrying about what you didnt do and think about what you are going to do
  11. Good luck Fearless. Just remember people make places not the reverse, just be pleased to be leaving the negativity behind. New home, new Fearless, new outlook. Whats not to like.
  12. 15 mph for, four hours, colour me impressed. Well done you.
  13. That would be nice, i will let you know however our plans are very fluid, we are in Vienna and Prague in a couple of weeks, six weeks ago it was supposed to be Lisbon. Berlin could turn out to be New York for all I know, I just do as I am told LOL.
  14. Today words of.......well who knows lol One day at a time One pound at a time One small goal at a time
  15. Hi guys. Its nearly 10 pm in Lodon, whats the time in your location? Todays stats 16214 steps 7.4 km run in 60 minutes 12.28 km travelled 3203 calories burnt Happy with that. A little story, today i was in Malden a rather nice town in Essex a county adjacent to London. In Malden they have some nice restarants and one I often visit, i decided to have the 6 oz prime burger in a ciabatta roll, it came with a salad and fries. I asked the waitress to leave the fries however when the meal arrived the fries were on the plate, the good thing was that I did not as i thought i would, have to "resist" them, i found i did not want them. Does this have any meaning? Damned if i know, but from very small victories etc........
  16. Today started like yesterday finished with a strange lethargy, by mid afternoon it was receding and I thought of going to the gym (which is 450 yards from my home) but I thought give it a miss and go tomorrow after work. It has ended up as a rather lazy day so I may as well relax and enjoy it.
  17. I was musing on what has changed from my last attempt at a lifestyle change and what I am doing differently, I think the difference is that: I AM NOT TAKING IT TO SERIOUSLY. Now that may seem (or maybe not) a strange thing to say but what I mean is it does not dominate my thoughts, in the past I have: Had wall charts detailing every change in weight on a daily basis. Had a second chart with a time line with the weight I want to be at, at intervals along the time line. Treated a deviation from my diet as a major disaster which would ruin my day. I read articles and books obsessively. Now I am far more relaxed about it The weight although important is less so than the fit of my clothes I dont log anything except on the Fitbit site and that is automatic. I allow myself a small number of diet deviations per week and do you know what, I find that I often dont use them, like many people ice cream is my weakness but i have eaten only one in the last five weeks. If i eat out which i often do I tend to eat what I want (except desserts) In the past I have been a zealot about my diet now if it is generally going in the right direction that is good enough for me, four steps forward and half a step backwards will get me to my goals. Thats the diet done, now comes the exercise, I have in the past been an exercise addict, I loved aerobics and step aerobics, sometimes over nine sessions per week regardless of any injuries, if I missed a class I was a real moody git, eventually I was having trouble walking and I physically could not keep doing it. I badly missed it due to the gym friends I had at my club and the camaraderie of the classes. TBH stopping the classes lead to the overeating. Now I exercise when I want to a reasonable level and although I want to beat PB's its not a big deal to me, it will happen when it happens. I am now a far more balanced and calmer person than before although that may have a lot to do with my age as well. It does help that i am a very lucky man to have a loving and supportive wife and family although when i first wore cycling lycra I was not so sure as the micky taking did go on a bit LOL.
  18. Yesterdays stats 11543 steps 8.32 Km travelled 2825 calories burned 2.52 Km run, I dont know what happened here, I woke up full of energy but I had a few things to do around the home in the morning so I went at about 3pm and just could not get going, if fact calling it a run is a bit of a misnomer, more of a really fast walk really. What was nice yesterday is that as I left home my neighbour looked at me and commented "are you working out now" it felt good.
  19. Thanks Terinatum, I will be visiting Vienna, Prague and some other cities at the end of this month. All my challenges are a "run to somewhere" normally a place like Crete which I know will be sunny and which are my next vacation destination (I have 3-4 holidays a year, the benefits of being mortgage and child costs free) LOL.
