  1. I'm in Lebanon area! Haven't been running much due to this awful weather but I'm about to join the Planet Fitness gym opening up in Lebanon Valley Mall.
  2. Awesome, thanks so much for you help! I get what you're saying about paleo then and I'm glad for it because I do like yogurt but I guess I was trying to knock down my sugar intake...haha Yogurt is much better snack than cookies for sure but so many have high sugar. I'm not a huge fan of the greek kind either. Maybe I will tweak that goal somehow. And I like the plan of trying Angry Birds first and then adding from there once I get more comfortable and figure out where to go from there. It's all a bit overwhelming trying to get a plan but a simple, easy plan is better than sitting on the couch! Thanks again for the tips, I'll just get started and go from there! =)
  3. First off, I think I'm pulling a no-no by double posting on two boards but I think this one is better suited to what I'm asking. I also couldn't figure out if I could delete my post off the introductions boards. Sorry, it won't happen again! So here we go! Discovered Nerd Fitness a few months ago but didn't really act on it until about a week ago when I was drawn back to the site. My husband and I moved back to our hometown a few months ago and since it's been super cold we have not been getting out and running like we used to in Alabama. Not only that but being so close to family again has done horrible things to our diet...blargh. So it's time to do something about it. Growing up I was always in sports so was active most of the year. However, I was never big on going to the gym. In a few weeks a Planet Fitness is opening a few miles from where I work - it probably isn't the greatest gym ever but the price tag is right. So I've been lurking the boards and resources and trying to come up with my quests. I like the idea of being a Ranger as a profession since I've always enjoyed running (my husband and I completed our first half marathon in January!) so I don't know if I'd like to give that up. However, I also want to become stronger! So I figured I would post on here my quests so that they are written down and someone else sees that I did them so I get my butt in gear! Quest 1: Run 2-3 times a week (3-5 miles each time). Ultimate goal - Run 25 minute 5k. Going to start this Monday - even though it's still way cold - I gotta suck it up. Quest 2: Make it to level 2 in each category of the Angry Birds Workout by June 1st. Get my butt to the gym 2-3 times a week. Sidequest: Cut out the junk food. Instead of taking a processed snack (granola bar, cookies etc) to work, take fruit! I like the idea of a paleo diet but I know I can't commit fully. So if I can get my snacks to be paleo then that's what I'll focus on first! My only problem is that I really like yogurt...guess that's out. =( Sidequest: Be able to put on my swimsuit this summer and be happy about it! I know, not very quantitative but I plan to track progress with photos! My question to everyone out there is this: The Angry Birds workout has four categories of exercises. When I go to the gym should I be doing other exercises as well or just focus on those four and getting better at those? I want to make sure I have a well rounded workout so that I'm focusing on all muscle groups but that's where I have ABSOLUTELY NO knowledge in. As a reminder the Angry Birds workout has Pullups, Planks, Squats and Pushups in it. Anything else I should do that will benefit me? Any feedback you have on my quests would be wonderful! I'm hoping that my quests aren't too demanding right off the bat but I'm used to running a few times a day already and my diet USED to be much better than it is now so really the only brand new thing is going to be the weight training...though I'm wondering if I should be trying to do all three at once? I want the best results possible but don't want to fail!! Thanks everyone and I hope to be a more permanent part of the community soon! Lindsey Also, pretty big nerd here as well - my brother has introduced me to the game Munchkin lately and I am in love. =) I'm also only 5ft tall so I think it fits my personality well!
